Episode 18 - Power of Earth Magic

The Obsidian Tale

Episode 18
[Opening 2 music]

~ Terrain Valley – Southern Portion - Exit ~

Felix and Rina made their way down the Terrain Valley in peace. The Terraineous fell into the abyss below a cliff, but so did Hazel… The two teenagers were quiet throughout their long walk, reflecting on what just happened. Several times, Felix checked to see if Rina was feeling any better.
            “Hey…” Felix said quietly.
There was no answer. Rina kept walking without turning around.
            “Rina? Can we talk?”
Rina finally stopped after an hour of walking.
“I know, maybe this time it really was my fault for not being able to protect Hazel. I don’t know where my mom is. I couldn’t protect Lydia, Forrest, nor Leo. I lost Clyde, and now we lost Hazel forever. It was because I wasn’t smart or strong enough, I understand that. I just hope… to change that, you know?”
            Rina didn’t move.
“Sometimes when I see how charismatic you are in getting those shards for Lydia, and then successfully getting them, it made me have hope. I felt that maybe… maybe I can change. Maybe I can become stronger and stop the Gammel army from chasing Lydia for good.”
Felix could hear a sigh up front.
“I really hope we can still travel together and find those shards.” He watched her. “Heh… You even called me by my real name for the first time back there. That surprised me too.”
“Suspenders,” Rina turned around with her eyes still red and watery. “I’m sorry.” [Music 18.1]
Felix took a step back. “H-Huh?!”
“Maybe, just maybe if we argued a little less… maybe we would have been able to protect Hazel. That beast appeared because…”
            “Rina…”
“This is why I’m afraid of dragging people along. This already happened once before, and I was afraid to see it happen again.”
Felix looked away in embarrassment. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know.”
Rina looked up, taking in the sunlight from above. “Before Lydia and I began running away, we lived in a nice meadow not too far from your village. It was caved in by so many trees and mountains that it was just us – and our adopted parents.”
Rina sat on a rock, continuing her story.
“We lived with them for seven years in isolation, but new technology boomed. That stupid Floir lady appeared by the meadow with a weird tracker. They must have been able to track Obsidian energy coming from our direction. When our mother saw her coming through the window with Gammel armor, our father ordered our mom to hide in the basement until the coast was clear. I refused to run away. I was tired of doing that. I told him I would stay with him and protect him if anything happened. Then…”
Rina clenched onto a clump of sand. “Lydia and I stood behind a wall and we would come out to stop the woman if she did anything to our dad. But, she was quick. She had a gun behind her hand this whole time, and she pulled the trigger on him. She hesitated and must have shot him through self-defense, but I don’t care. She shot him; what’s done is done. I was going to come out and blast her in the face with my fireball, but Lydia knew it would take time for me to cast it. So, she forced me to run away with her. We ended up by the riverbed where we had no escape. The woman caught up to us and the only thing to do was to jump into the river where we were pushed closer to the Village of Saradeli.”
“I… can’t believe this,” Felix said slowly.
“Looking at that Floir lady just makes me so angry, you know? I guess that’s what also fueled my anger in general. Every time something happens, I just keep running and running away.”
“What about your real family? Why did you live with adoptive parents?”
Rina looked away. “I don’t know where my real parents are.”
            “What?”
“I was ten. I didn’t know much. I just ran away and never questioned it until I found Lydia and my adoptive parents.”
“I can help find them wit-“
“Stop. I’m not out to look for them. I’m searching for the shards - for Lydia.”
“Then I’ll help you until we get them all. We’ll keep going until the very end of the world if that’s what it takes!”
“Suspenders, I don’t know. This journey has been very dangerous and-“
“I don’t care! We’ve been through a lot and we’re still alive. That’s all that matters. We need to get to the Yucan Tempa and we can figure something out from there, okay?”
Rina chuckled. “Fine, fine. Follow along if you want. You’re still an idiot.”
Felix laughed with her. “I’ll take that as a ‘yes’!” [End music]

~ Vaticul Canyon – Rocky Roads ~

Several hours later, Felix and Rina made their way to a path with rocks all over the place. Felix took a step forward, almost tripping on the most flimsy rock nearby. [Music 15.1]
“I know we shouldn’t bring Hazel up to the topic, but uh, do you remember what she said about how to get to the Yucan Tempa?”
Rina grabbed a piece of smooth rock from the ground. “I think she said it’s west on the world map, which means east from where we’re coming from. Something is strange about these rocks though.”
            “What’s wrong with them?”
“They seem to be too perfect. Look at the rest of them. All of these rocks are more like marbles than anything else. How are these rocks being formed this way?”
            “Magic,” Felix joked.
            “Wait, that’s it!”
            “What? I was just kidding.”
“Suspenders, remember what that Remy kid was telling us? He saw a spirit in his dreams talking about how she wanted someone strong to help her protect Lydia since the spirit couldn’t do it herself. I think she’s actually existent, no matter how dead she is. She’s just using magic to spiritually connect with unconscious people like Remy.”
Felix became frightened. “Wha? That sounds really creepy!”
“And I know it does sound weird and impossible. But, we’ve already seen a bunch of that. Remember that creepy woman that you kept bowing down to back at the Silver Forest?”
            “Lady Pria!”
“Yeah, that weirdo. She said she would teach me more magic if I could find her. Maybe, just maybe she’s hidden somewhere up ahead?”
Felix tried to climb on the biggest boulder which was also perfectly circled. “Do you think side-tracking to this canyon would help us?”
            “Of course, dummy.”
“Then I trust you. We should go and find Lady Pria.”
Rina shook her head. “Alright. This will be really quick. I’m only doing this to gain more magic to help stop that damn bastard Gammel army from doing further damage.”

~ Vaticul Canyon – Central Depths ~

Walking along the road, the two teenagers saw nothing but more perfect rocks. The sun shined on them and they were getting quite dehydrated, but now was not the time for exhaustion. They needed to keep going until they reach the green, Gammel lands.
Felix placed his hand over his forehead to see from afar. “There is the sea just ahead. Nothing seems to be around here.”
“I don’t understand. These rocks can’t just form this way.”
Felix continued walking closer to the edge before the sea. “Yep, nothing seems to be-“ He suddenly fell into a giant pit. “HEREEEEE!!!!” He screamed. His voice disappeared in the distance.
Rina raised an eyebrow without showing any worry. “Guess he found an entrance.” She began taking the staircase that was opened up from Felix’s fall. [End music]
At the bottom, Felix tried to push his head out of the dirt ground. Rina ignored him as she went closer to a flashy, brown aura in front of them.
“A shrine under the rocks?” Rina asked. Felix finally got his head out of the ground as Rina continued, “Hazel mentioned the Vaticul Canyon. Is this it though? It’s the opposite of a canyon.”
“I recently did that.” Lady Pria appeared within the aura! [Music 8.1]
“I knew it!” Rina pointed at her. “You hag. Finally appearing a second time, huh!”
Felix bowed down to her. “L-Lady Pria, it is you! I thank you for your appearance.”
Lady Pria came into tears again. “Oh no… This world…”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I bet you can sense that this world is falling apart with the lack of Obsidian energy, but we’ll spare you the time and tell you that the Gammel army is using the energy for something worse.”
“No… This world is just so beautiful, and it needs more trees. I will work on that immediately.”
Rina turned to Felix, “She cries about the most stupid things, I swear.”
            “R-Rina, be respectful!”
Rina finger-pointed at Lady Pria again, “So, you! Are you gonna teach me some magic or what?”
            “Earth magic.”
            “Earth? What is Earth?”
“How should I know? They should just call it Rhadessian magic. I don’t know who thought of the idea of ground powers having to do with this term ‘Earth’. My point is, that is the kind of magic I used for this area.”
Rina examined the whole cavern. “Why would you do that here? And why do you use magic on certain places like this and the forest?”
“I use the corresponding magic in the most natural habitats that coincide with the proper nature. The Silver Forest was just the starting point. There are four main elements with two new elements that branch out of it. In time, you will find them. Well, that’s if you do find them.”
“Oh shut up. I will, just watch me. For now, teach me! I need to use all kinds of magic to make me stronger and stop the Gammel army!”
“First off, we have to fix that tiny little baby fire of yours, but that can be way later.”
“Wh-What did you say?! Ergh, I’ll show you! Let’s start with the training already!”

What Women Want

 ~~~
            After several minutes of training, Lady Pria dispersed her aura. Her sleeves stopped flapping slowly through the wind and she stood onto the ground like a normal human being. Rina took a few steps back, readying her arms. Lady Pria then told her that her stance is a bit too stiff.
            Felix, already being bored, sat against a rock on the side of the room. Rina fixed her pose, but this time her motions before getting into a certain pose were too rocky.
            “Not like that, woman! If you want to show true magic, you must do the pose properly.”
            “Damn it! It looks the freaking same each time I try it!”
            “Patience is also importance.”
            Rina blushed. “Tch. I have patience.”
            “Focus on your legs. Feel the vibration of the Rhadessian ground. Do you sense it?”
            “Ohhhh I’m sensing a lot of vibes if you know what I mean,” She said angrily.
            Lady Pria shrugged. “That’s fine as well. Be angry with the ground and let it know you mean business. Show the ground that you are in control.”
            Rina stomped her foot. “I tried but it just sounds so stupid!” As she stomped, she made the ground crackle.
            Felix could feel a slight shaking which vibrated from Rina’s stomp. He began to hug the boulder next to him.
            “I-I could use a friend to hug right now!” He mentioned, remembering Lydia, Forrest, Leo, and Hazel. He frowned when he thought of Hazel.
            Rina smiled. “Hehe, I did it!”
            “No, that was not right,” Pria disagreed with her. “The way the ground crackled was not smooth at all. You have to control your energy.”
            Rina sighed. “Alright already. Let’s take things a little slower then, sheesh.” [End music]
 ~~~
It took them almost an hour and Felix was already sleeping next to the boulder. By then, Rina was slightly able to control her Earth powers, but only the controlled energy could get transferred into small results. If she wanted a large result, she would have less control which would be a huge opportunity cost for her. [Music 5.1]
Rina made fire appear from her hands, “Fire, and now Earth! Hey lady, do you think you can teach me how to catalyze Earth powers into my weapon?”
“I do not specialize in catalyzing weapons with elemental powers. It is new technology and you must figure it out on your own. Knowing that Earth itself cannot be catalyzed within your knives compared to fire, you must be creative. You can manipulate the ground easier if you stabbed the knife onto the floor and focused on the ground at the same time. Maybe something magical can happen. Literally.”
Rina grinned. “Hrm… It sounds kind of confusing, but I’ll get used to it. Also, I have one more question for you.”
            “And what may that be?”
“Were you the one who channeled a spiritual connection with Remy, a little boy in South Ouli Brye?”
            “Yes. It was me.”
“I was hoping you would deny it at first. I was so ready to fish out the answer from you.”
“Would you rather have me deny it and cause you turmoil?”
            “Good point.”
            “Why do you ask?”
Rina took a step forward. “You needed someone to help you protect Lydia. I have some follow-up questions on this.” Lady Pria began to pay attention to her. “Who are you waiting for when it comes to someone helping you, and why do you care so much about Lydia when you don’t even know her?”
“I am a spirit. I cannot physically tweak the world to my commands. I only guide it.”
“Lame. You’re no spirit. I can totally see you.”
“Believe what you may, and it will be the end of your imaginational horizon. You seem to be interested in Lydia, yes?”
“She’s like a sister to me. Of course I want to help her, and I was wondering if I’m able to be the one you can teach.”
“You do show charisma, but lack the patience. However, I have the patience to teach you, if you are willing to search for me throughout the world. As for the second question, Lydia is important in preserving Rhadessian energy. If she dies, there will no longer be energy supplied to the Frolix Volcano. Without the energy, there will be a lack of fire energy, thus creating an imbalance between the four main elements.”
Rina squinted her eyes in uncertainty. “Now hold on! You want to preserve her energy too?!”
“My wish is not like the Gammel army, however. I want the preservation of Obsidian energy, and it only takes Lydia to stay alive. They want to take the energy and use it to its full potential while taking advantage of the world itself. However, it is quite strange that I am not sensing lethal murder intentions coming from the lieutenants.”
Rina paused. “Are you telling me people like Floir don’t want to kill Lydia?”
“Perhaps somebody else in the government intends to, or at least use her energy – causing her lifetime pain and turmoil.”
Rina pouted. “You have a point. So, all you want me to do is keep her alive, right?”
“Unless you want her to pass the energy down to the next generation, if you know what I mean, then you have no other choice.”
“Yeah, I’d rather not have Lydia go through such matters at this time. I’d rather protect her, thank you. And I promise you that!”
Lady Pria prayed to her. “Then you have my blessings, even if you are a scrawny girl who…” She began to cry. “is not strong for this world just yet.”
“Hey, don’t be crying about that, damn it!!”
Lady Pria began to vanish with a sudden chuckle. Rina softly stomped her foot and the ground created a stalagmite towards Felix.
            “Yeowch!! What was that?!”
            “Me, idiot. We’re leaving.”
Felix turned his head left and right several times. “Wait, what? Where did Lady Pria go? What happened? How long was I out?!”
“I don’t know, years?” Rina joked as she headed for the staircase. “I made a promise that I will protect Lydia no matter what. Regardless if she has those shards, she needs to stay alive. I just know she’s alive this time, and that’s for sure.”
“What makes you a hundred percent sure this time?”
“Let’s say she really is a spirit. Then, she would have sensed Lydia’s death. She mentioned nothing of the sort, so that means Lydia is still out there somewhere! She’s still breathing and she needs my help!”
Felix stood up. “We should find her along with those shards then!”
Rina agreed while making her way back up out of the canyon. It’s no wonder there was no canyon at all. With the name kept intact, the place went underground with the Earth magic that Lady Pria used. [End music]

What Does 'Earth' Mean?

~ Road to Yucan Tempa ~

Felix fell off of the smooth rocks. Rina walked through it much simpler than she had before entering the canyon. On the way down, they decided to head west towards the Yucan Tempa this time. Along the way, they could see a bunch of people in the same Ouli Brye outfits. Some had long, beige coats on while some others only wore a two-piece Arabic uniform.
“Whoa, where did these people come from?” Felix asked.
“A pilgrimage to the Yucan Tempa. From what I read in the books, the Yucan Tempa is not a place, but a large mobile camp set that moves from place to place. This year, they’re camping at the edge of the Gammel army.”
            “Is there a reason?”
“I don’t know that part, but it’s interesting that they’re crashing there this year. Why stop there at a crucial time like now?”
Felix also remembered what Garnett said. She was heading to the Yucan Tempa.
“Are all these people a part of some kind of rebellious union against the Gammel army?”
Rina scratched her head. “Um… That could make sense. If you think about it, Garnett left without Ace’s permission. Ace is only focusing on restoring North Ouli Brye, so Garnett is probably pursuing the enemy territory on her own.”
Felix began to follow the pilgrimage. “Alright, then we should go along with them. I think that would be a good idea.”
“You are so simple-minded. I’d rather head to the Yucan Tempa,” She walked the same path as Felix.
“…Isn’t that where these people are going…?” Felix questioned her. Rina ignored him and kept going. “Hey Rina, wait up!”

The Master Trickster

~ Yucan Tempa – Entrance ~

Rina and Felix hid behind a giant boulder right before the entrance to the camp set. If they were seen right outside the camp, they would be considered outsiders, especially if Garnett were to spot them. The Yucan Tempa was small, but also divided into two parts. The first part is the camp set itself, filled with all of the members of Ouli Brye. Still, the important question is to ask why they decided to camp there in this particular year. [Music 10.4]
The second part led to an open pass going up onto a short mountain. The mountain itself contained one large cottage and a coffee restaurant for those who are traveling. Next to these two wooden buildings was the station which required a permit to enter the monorails into the grassland, Gammel territories.
“So, what should we do? We’re not even allowed in both areas,” Felix said.
Rina stood up. “Be a leader for once, Suspenders! Take initiative.” She began to ready her position for fire magic.
“W-Wait, you’re not gonna do this again! That’s terrible initiative. Maybe we can talk to them?”
Rina freely entered the camp set without anyone’s permission. “Yeah sure, walk in and find someone to talk to. You make it sound waaaay too easy.”
“Stop right there!” A familiar, male voice called out.
Felix panicked. “This is what happens when you just barge into things, Rina!”
It was Ace! He stood next to Garnett’s father, Moilin.
“It is good to see you two again, friends of Leonardo.”
Felix felt guilty for the destruction of Ouli Brye. “Eheh… I’m surprised you’re not mad at us.”
Ace shook Felix’s hand. “You showed loyalty towards Leonardo and proved to be victims of the Gammel army. You are one of us. My name is Ace.”
Rina placed her hands on her hips. “Oh heck no! Why am I wasting my time choosing a side here?”
“But you’re also not against us, no?”
“Rina, I think we might as well be siding with the Lennox government. They’re much friendlier anyway…”
As Felix introduced himself along, he introduced Rina for him as well.
Moilin handed Ace a letter. “Sir, one of the men sent a letter about Lake City Prima’s recent infiltration.”
Felix and Rina immediately became interested in this letter. As Ace began to read the letter quietly, he made a short gasp.
            “Ergh…”
            “What’s wrong, sir?”
“It seems the Gammel army entered and took a rare artifact called the ‘Violet Prism’.”
Felix said to Rina, “That’s one of the colors of the rainbow. Do you think…?”
“It has to be it. What else does the damn letter say?”
Ace continued to read. As he finished, his hands were grasping tightly onto the paper. “It just ends with the fact that the Gammel army left with the artifact, and then the platforms leading out of the city have been destroyed. What could have happened? Did the Gammel army attack its own territory such as the beautiful Lake City Prima?!”
Moilin took a map of the Rhadessian world from his pocket. “Sir, according to the world map, Lake City Prima is far northeast from here. The Gammel army is swiftly making its way around the world. Everywhere, they have infiltrated-“
“Wait! There is a marking on the corner but it’s slightly scraped off. ‘dia tells the truth’?”
Rina pushed him aside while forcefully grabbing onto the letter. “Give me that, loser!” She examined it closely. “I can’t believe this…” [End music]
Felix took a peek as well. “What is it?”
Rina pointed at the word, ‘dia’. “It actually says… ‘Lydia tells the truth’.”
            “Wh-What does this all mean?”
Rina glared at him. “Lake City Prima is known to broadcast everything especially to the world, as long as any part of the world has access to technology such as telescreens. It’s likely that Lydia told everyone about her being an Obsidian, about her being chased by the Gammel army, and about how the Gammel army must be a conspiracy! This is why parts of the city have been destroyed. Something really bad must have happened. The Gammel army couldn’t have done all that by themselves.”
Felix finally added, “And… anything that can cause this much of destruction has happened before.”
Both Felix and Rina looked at each other and then they said at the same time, “Forrest.”

Urgent news!

Apparently, about a good 50% amount of photos (AND THAT'S A LOT!) have been deleted from my phone, but they were in sync with Blogger's Drive, therefore that 50% has been TERMINATED.

It will take me several hours to revive that. Let alone, my old story, Fires of the Sky has about 4x the amount of deleted photos (400 of them!) and I have to search through several pages just to revive them. Give me several moments as I fix this problem. Thank you!

EDIT: All files have been restored! If you see any images with a large dashed line, let me know! By the way, when I mentioned '50%' above, it was actually about 90%. Darn...

All updates from episodes 1-17 are complete! - January 24, 2015

Great afternoon everyone!

I had to make an emergency visit home for the weekend for my family. Well, they told me to stay in Riverside and study but I was like NOPE I want to visit the hospital with them. Hahahaha.

Anyway, on to the story-related information! I managed to spend several hours last night and this morning on updating the rest of the missing information especially with episodes 14-17 and all the character pages. Now every episodes from 1-17 have HD images.

One last note that I really want to mention before recapping the updates: After episode 13, the plot focuses more on character development. Episode 17 may have one of the biggest developments so far, and Episode 18 is almost on par with that.

Let's recap before we return to Felix and Rina's storyline next week:
  • Openings 1 (for episodes 1-13) and Opening 2 (for episodes 14-26) have been complete, and Opening 3 (for episodes 27-39) is on preparation.

  • Next, we have new characters: Hazel, Remy, and Bailey. They each have character pages added onto the Character List tab above.
  • Character blurs are now fixed!

  • Interpreted music has also been updated.
  • Episode titles between 18-27 have been added.
  • I have added a 'Journal' under the About tab. This journal is an archive of information about the story such as personality shards and other extra information you can gain from this story.
Things I still need to do in preparation for episodes 18-26:
  • There are 7 remaining characters in Opening 2 that have not been introduced yet.
  • Work on Opening 3 and complete it by Episode 27's release date.

Episode 17 - There Goes a Million Gold

The Obsidian Tale

Episode 17
[Opening 2 music]

~ Lake City Prima – Northeastern Plaza – Auction House ~

Forrest was dragging onto Leo’s trench coat. “Leo… You need to get that shard.”
“I’ll try my best. I hope several thousands of gold should do it.”
            “You still have that much?”
Lydia began sniffing. Tears came out of her eyes. “I’m sorry… because of me, you have to spend even more money.”
“Don’t cry. I want to do this, for you,” Leo said. “And for Felix and Rina who tried so hard to find them for you.”
“Felix too?” Lydia asked, but she didn’t blush.
“You didn’t know?” Forrest questioned her. “He’s trying just as hard as Rina, but Rina doesn’t let him help. He still keeps trying even knowing how scary she is.”
“Oh,” Lydia tried to smile but she couldn’t. “Haha.” She let out an emotionless laughter.
The members in the auction house began clapping and Leo needed to hurry in and register his number before it was too late!

As they entered, there were two people on stage: a man in a suit and a woman in a dress. They were the host and hostess of the auction for the night.
With the main group entering from the back door, they could see a large array of people from outside the city. They wore different outfits, but bear the same fanciness in their own kind. The audience sat around the contestants like a half-circle choir performance. The group of three sat on seats that were second-to-last from the back row. A few people stared over at Forrest and Lydia in particular, at least at their outfits – or well, mostly Forrest. [Music 17.1]

The Lifestyle of the Nobles

“First off, we have the Brass Knuckles! These were made by the best blacksmith in the city! But, that is not the only thing that is special about the knuckles. It was created and used during the War of Vector twenty years ago. Can I start the bidding at a hundred gold?”
A man with a feathered hat and an adventurer’s outfit stood up. “That sounds marvelous! I’ll add two hundred!”
“Four hundred!” A woman called out.
“Er, er…! Seven hundred!” The adventurer retaliated.
Leo whispered to them, “Do you mind if I chime in?”
“How much money do you have left?”
Leo checked his pockets. “My currency says about 1,200,000 gold. We only spent about 2,000 gold during our trip tonight.”
“How hard is it to get 1,200,000 gold?” Lydia asked him.
“Well, that’s almost a life time’s supply of money,” He said.
You could safely say that 1,200,000 gold would be well over ten million dollars in US Earth currency but let’s pretend Earth currencies have nothing to do with Rhadessia.
Forrest raised his fists. “Alright! We can do this for sure!”
By the time they finished their conversation, a woman yelled, “3,000 gold!”
The two drunk girls began to play along.
“Girl, I’m going to get this one and give it to my boyfriend. 6,000 gold!”
“All you ever think about is that damn trashy boyfriend of yours. I’m going to get those brass knuckles and cut him in the FACE! 12,000 gold!”
Forrest slowly turned his head to Leo, “Um… It’s going up really fast…”
            “20,000 gold!”
            “Nuh uh! 30,000 gold!”
“You don’t even have that much!”
            “You don’t either!”
The host said to them, “The rules state that if you already called out the number, you must keep to it even if you are in debt.” The two girls suddenly hugged each other in fear.
All of the other contestants were surprised at how much they would spend on brass knuckles even during the previous war.
            “40,000 gold,” Leo said.
Forrest giggled. “I knew you’d do it! Hehe!”
Everyone turned to him but they said nothing. Even the hostess gasped, followed by a collapse.
“So… rich. So… hot,” She fainted. Other workers had to come on stage and drag her out.
“G-Going once?” The host said slowly, “Going twice??” No answer. “Sold, to contestant Number 188!”
Forrest jumped. “That’s you, Leo! Yay!!!”
“Phew. 40,000 gold isn’t too bad. Next two, here we go.”
Lydia could hear whispers from the other contestants, calling him crazy. Another worker had to carry the box with the brass knuckles inside towards Leo.

Why Use Brass Knuckles to Fight?

“The next item is an extension for a toy BB gun! It is the latest gadget for your children’s enjoyment!”
Leo patted Forrest on the head. “Don’t worry, kid. I’ll get this one for you. It’s not likely anyone will pay a lot for a toy.”
            “Starting at 150 gold!”
“See? Not so bad,” Leo said.
“Mommy, mommy, I want that!!” A little boy whined. He continued nudging her on the shoulder.
“Okay, honey. I didn’t like brass knuckles anyway. At least this fake gun is more delicate for our household. I will throw in 50,000 gold!”
Everyone already gave up. Leo’s heart skipped a beat.
            “Wh-What?” He said quietly. “Er… 55,000 gold.”
“Hmph. Silly mistake, young man. 70,000 gold!”
Forrest shook his head. “That’s too much… Leo, let’s save money for the shard. You also need to save up for the rest of your life too.”
“No, it’s not over. 75,000 gold!”
            “100,000 gold!”
“Leo, seriously, I think I’m okay.”
            Leo stood up, “200,000 gold!”
“400,000 gold!” The woman yelled out. “I will not be defeated on such matters, and that’s final!”
            Leo quickly responded with “500,000!”
            “Tch!” She finally stopped.
The whole contestants and even the audiences were in shock. They were speechless with a few coughs here and there from their surprise.
Lydia burped and it echoed throughout the whole room.
“Going once?! Going twice?!” The host said in a panic as the opponent pouted on her seat. “Sold to the man who asked for 500,000 gold!”
“Yes! Take that, woman!! Yoohoo! I did it!” He began prancing around his chair. “Weehee! Did you see that?!” [End music]
Forrest watched as the boxed prize was on its way down the aisle. “Leo, I hope you realize that we only have…” He began counting his fingers, “A gajillion times less amount of money for the shard and for the rest of your life savings!”
Leo stopped. “Ah? Uh oh… What has gotten into me?”
Lydia tried to do the math. “660,000 gold remaining for you, Leo. What shall you do next?”
Leo became serious. “If the last prize is even more worthy than the last, then we will hope that it stops a little over 500,000. I feel that it is likely we will get it anyway because not that many people would spend this much in an auction. However, we are also at the Lake City Prima, so who knows what will happen?”
“N-N-Next up, uh… We have the Violet Prism! It was found clashing down into the city’s lake not too long ago and we have done quite some research on it. It stores magnificent wishes any fairy tale can accomplish!”
Women were excited to play in this round. Men did the same, hoping for more money and fame.
“Some research,” Lydia repeated, “Not as good as the research in Town of Igor. I don’t think they know it contains Obsidian energy.”
“Well whatever it takes, we’re getting that shard for you, Lydia.”
“Yeah! Felix and Rina already tried so hard to help you, so it’s our turn!”
Lydia’s face turned red but she could not express what she was feeling.
Leo noticed that her face changed colors but it was strange at this point, because without any emotions, her face was not supposed to turn red. Why did it happen?
“Lydia, by any chance, when did you lose the shards?”
“More than a week ago, perhaps several weeks. It is hard to tell throughout our constant traveling.”
“Do you ever wonder if you regained and reproduced newer memories in your mind on your own?”
            “What do you mean?”
“Er… Never mind.” He was interrupted by the host’s first bidding call at 500 gold. [Music 12.2]
Several times, many of the contestants fought each other until they reached 80,000 gold. Many people stopped joining in and only about three people remained.
Leo continued to wait. “Three people are adding the bid which might be a bit troublesome.”
By 300,000 gold, only one person remain. “Yes, I did it! I’m gonna get it. No one else is pitching in!”
            “Going once?” The host asked.
Leo waited to see if there were other people. “The trick is to stay quiet until the last minute, assuming that the last man standing does not have much more than he already bid for.”
            “Going twice?”
Leo immediately stood up, “500,000 gold!”
All of the contestants were angry this time. Some whispered to each other, asking how much this man had exactly.
The last man clenched his fists. “I’m not losing this time! 600,000 gold! There is no way you have that much!”
            Leo clenched his teeth. “Ergh…”
            “Leo… This is it…”
            “660,000 gold!”
“NOO!” The man screamed. “You bastard!” [End music]
“Anyone have an offer higher than that?!” The host became excited. “Alright, the winner goes to-“
“One. Million. Gold,” A strong and stern female voice was heard from behind the group in the last row.
Leo felt like a rock. He froze, not expecting anyone to surpass him. But who was it? Lydia turned around and she made a little gasp, a very light one that even her lack of emotions could not control.
The woman had her legs crossed, waiting for the prize to reach her. Forrest was utterly angry this time. He already disliked the Gammel army, but for them to steal the shard this easily was not doing any justice to his dislike. He tried to stand up but Leo had to hold onto his shoulders to wait.
            “Floir,” Forrest whispered.
As Floir stood up, she grabbed the prized box and then she walked away, waving at everyone without looking at them. “Thank you for the enjoyment, everyone. I left my money at the counter for the workers to accept. Sorry, kiddoes. Looks like I won this round. I will be taking my leave now, hmhm. Oh, and on the way out of the city, don’t be surprised that we have you surrounded, Obsidian. We want no harm done to this city.”
Forrest’s fists were shaking uncontrollably. He has never been this angry before. He kicked his metal chair at the doorway right after Floir exited.
“Hey! Do not taint our property!” The host yelled at him.
“Psst!” One man whispered to his friend. “That’s what they get for hogging all the prizes. What losers, heheh!” [Music 17.2]
“I know! Such a sad thing, they are.”
The two drunken girls began laughing as well. This ricochet throughout the whole room and laughter passed on like a wave of comedic effects.
Leo was not angry, but more disappointed. “Lydia… I’m sorry.”
Lydia headed for the doorway. “Let’s go.”
“But the shard! We have to get it back!” Forrest said with anger.
“Calm down! It’s just a stupid little shard,” One man tried to stop him.
Forrest grabbed his cube and then he turned it into a toy bazooka. “Shut up! It’s more than that. You know nothing!!”
The man began to laugh even more. “What are you going to do? Shoot me with some toy bullet? HAHAHA!!!”
Forrest’s fingers edged closer to the trigger but Leo grabbed him by the collar.
“You shouldn’t let your anger get to you, boy.”
Forrest suddenly frowned. “But, but, but…!”
“Lydia is right: we have to go. We’ll find another way to get that shard back.”
“Okay…” Forrest dragged himself to the doorway. As he and Leo exited first, Lydia turned around to watch the audience.
She saw crowds and crowds of people watching her, still laughing in their obnoxious tone of voice. Her heart beat faster which has never happened since she lost all seven of her shards a while back. Leo turned around to call out to her, but she didn't listen. He began to notice something strange was happening to her.
“EVERYONE!!!!!!!” Lydia shouted. Her shout was at the loudest possible tune, ringing across glass windows. Some of the women had to cover their ears.
Forrest fell to the ground, frightened at what just happened.
As the crowd became quiet, Lydia continued, “The Gammel army is a conspiracy.” Leo tried to grab onto her to close her mouth, but she kicked him onto the floor. “You can laugh at me all you want. But what you just experienced, was the future of all your deaths. When it happens, even I could be the one laughing at you, but I won't because I know that I have a heart unlike the rest of the nobles standing here today. That woman who took the 'Violet Prism' is the leader of the Gammel army, and she wants the shards so that they can do research on it. What they’re planning to do is mix the energy of the shard into human beings to turn them completely crazy!”
“What? That’s a load of bull-“
“I am telling you the truth! Because… I am the girl they are after! I am the last Obsidian existing in this world today, and they want to preserve the energy that I emit. With that uncontrollable mass, everyone will be eventually used with that catalyzed energy!”
“I still don’t buy it,” A woman said, “What do they gain out of this?”
“That…” Lydia was stumped. “I… I don’t know yet, but we need to prevent it from happening in the first place!”
“What a liar! Did you hear her stutter?!”
“You are all unaware of what is happening outside past the Lake City Prima. I’m sure none of you have figured that the Gammel army themselves were responsible of the genocide in Celestia. You were all caved into this privileged city and everywhere else on the eastern continent. It was the Gammel army. They’re the ones who killed all of my relatives just so they can use our energy for their own selfish needs instead of sharing it to preserve the world. I don’t know exactly what they’re doing, but it is a selfish act overall to annihilate all of the Obsidians!”
Everyone paused. The crowd became a lot quieter this time.
            “The Gammel army?!”
            “They did that?” [End music]
A man barged in past Forrest and Leo, “Sir,” He said to the host, “A small army has entered! They overheard the girl on the telescreen!”
            “A tele-screen? What’s that??” Forrest asked.
Leo stood up as soon as possible. “It’s somewhat new technology that Lake City Prima can afford. We don’t have time to question it. Lydia, we have to leave immediately!”
Lydia agreed. She said to the rest of the crowd, “Please, please think about the situation at hand! Don’t let it stray off before it’s too late!” She then decided to run on her own. She didn’t need Leo nor Forrest to hold her hand while running away this time around. [Music 17.3]

~ Lake City Prima – Crossing between plazas ~

Leo equipped his new brass knuckles as he was running with both Forrest and Lydia. They went through several shops down an alley way and only about three soldiers were following them.
Forrest took out his BB gun and he added the extension. Two BB pellets came out of the front and attacked the soldiers. Compared to before, it actually hurt the soldiers. They crouched down in pain.
“Can’t I just use my bazooka to blast them away?!”
“No! We can’t destroy this city just like in Ouli Brye.”
“But I’ll try to control it. Please, just trust me!”
“We cannot, Forrest!” He sounded frustrated and angry towards him for the first time. Forrest decided to listen to him this time around.
A soldier appeared in the front of the alleyway. He aimed for Lydia’s other leg but she ran off to the side. Forrest simply tripped in surprise while Leo jumped upward with perfect timing to avoid the gunshot. Lydia kicked the soldier on the face and then she stepped on his face to jump over him.
Forrest began running again, catching up to his two friends. In the central plaza, soldiers appeared from each corner except from the alley that they came from. The soldiers walked in with weapons. Some had swords and some had guns!
Leo pushed both Lydia and Forrest to the ground right behind a large fountain of water. The soldiers began firing, exploding the fountain and water came splashing out in several directions.
“You idiot! You’re not supposed to attack the city!” The soldier’s partner yelled. A few civilians began running all over the place.
Leo was on his knees. “Alright, this is a good time to take advantage of the people around here. Let’s run!”
The three of them headed into the next area where there were market booths instead of shops from inside the buildings. They were able to buy time and join the mob of runners.
“Come buy some talismans! They’re much better than the charms I was selling in Ouli Brye! This time, it can give you good luck!” It was the same merchant girl with her two friends from Ouli Brye.
A soldier tried to shoot Lydia’s legs again, but instead, they shot the girl’s marketing booth.
“EEK! UGH! Why do bad things always happen to me?! It’s not even safe in the best place in the world! Come on Zedd, Tedd, we’re finding another place to shop!”
Zedd gave a hysterical frown. “Looks like we didn’t have luck on our side though. How ironic.”
Tedd slapped him even if Zedd was much taller. “Sh!! Don’t tell people that!”
“Aw…” Forrest turned to them while running. “I really wanted a talisman. We could use the luck, huh Leo?”
“No time to stop and buy stuff! Hurry!”
Forrest turned around, watching the merchant girl try to pick up her talismans. As he turned forward again, he crashed into a child the same height as him. They both fell to the ground.
Forrest felt his forehead. “Augh, ow… Watch where you’re going!”
“Y-You started it…” The child said. It was the same person from the beginning of Forrest’s visit in Prima.
            “Whoa, hey. It’s you.”
            “What?”
“You’re the boy from earlier! What’s your name?”
            “B-Bailey…”
“Why do you look so scared??”
“You, you kept staring at me.” He blushed. “That made me uncomfortable.” He had his left hand holding onto his right arm, and his right arm was hiding behind his back.
“What?! But you weren’t happy earlier, and I thought everyone here would feel happy. What were you doing with that cloaked person?”
“Huh???” His eyes were still demented throughout their conversation. You couldn’t even tell if his voice was of a boy or a girl. “I… The Gammel army kind of…”
“Listen, you have to stay away from that suspicious person. The Gammel army is bad news!”
            “But they said-“
            “Actually, come with us!”
            “I can’t.”
“What do you mean you can’t?! They’re dangerous people!”
            “I just can’t.”
Leo called out for him from afar, “Forrest, we have to hurry up! Come on!!”
The boy stared at Forrest who was leaving. He had a long sword in his hand but he didn’t use it.

~ Lake City Prima – Western Plaza - Platform ~

The western plaza had another platform that led down to the exiting docks. Leo suggested that they jump off from there, but they were also blocked by a large army of fifty soldiers along with Floir who stood in the front.
Many people were already running out of the docks in fear. [End music]
“Good to see you came,” Floir chuckled in her deep voice. “However, there is no escape this time.” [Music 9.1]
Forrest took out his bazooka cube. “Give us that shard back or else!”
“What are you going to do? Blast us again? That shard will shatter into several pieces, you know. Now, turn yourselves in and no one will get hurt.”
“Except us!” His fingers were near the trigger.
Floir chuckled. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you. After all, I am in charge of the three captivated children that you call friends. They must be crying extensively in Bafuul right now.”
Forrest gasped. “Jess, Spencer, and Sydney?! Why you…!” His hands began shaking uncontrollably from anger.
“Forrest, what are you doing?” Leo asked.
“We need to do this. We will only be destroying one little part of the city. It’s okay!”
“Our goal is to not destroy the city at all.”
“Then what else should we do?!” Forrest panicked, but even Leo had nothing to say this time.
“Fine,” Leo said. He began whispering to Forrest.
Floir clenched her teeth. “Hey, stop whispering and get over here! You will pay for betraying us, little boy!”
Forrest shook his head. “That was just a fake out. Take this, old lady!!”
            “O-Old lady?!”
Forrest quickly shot the sides of the docks. Several of the men didn’t make it in time to shoot. One of them had time, however.
As he pulled the trigger, Leo pushed Forrest down, grazing his own arm a little. The buildings to the side began collapsing. Forrest sat upward, and then he pressed the trigger lightly this time. A small fireball blasted towards Floir, but she successfully jumped away.
“I did it!” Forrest smiled. “I can control the bazooka!”
As Lydia recklessly ran towards Floir without a weapon, Floir took out a thick blade from her sheath.
“Lydia!!” Leo exclaimed. He grabbed Forrest and they both started entering the docks, following Lydia.
Lydia jumped and she was about to give Floir a somersault. Floir deflected with the flat part of her blade and Lydia had to flip backwards away from her.
“When did you learn those moves, Obsidian?” Floir was impressed with her.
“I learned from my second father,” She answered.
“(Damn this Obsidian! She must have forgotten how to fight until she regained the Knowledge shard back in Ouli Brye.)” Floir tried to think quickly this time.
Floir began to retaliate, but Lydia was quick enough to dodge every move. She then elbowed Floir on the stomach and then gave her an uppercut to the chin. Floir released the violet shard from her hand and Lydia caught it.
The ground below them began to crackle. Floir was tripping towards the edge this time.
            Lydia’s eyes widened. “Huh?!”
“Augh!” Floir screamed in a panic. She had to close her eyes.
A hand reached out for her. [End music]
“Hold on a little longer!” The platform that even Lydia was lying on was about to break apart. [Music 8.3]
“Lydia, get back here!” Leo suggested. He tried to find a way to grab her but the two platforms between him and Lydia were swaying further apart.
All of the soldiers fell into the water by now.
“Why are you helping me? Did you not realize what I have done to your adoptive father?!?!” Floir asked. She watched the violet shard color Lydia in a purplish aura. It was too bright to even look at her.
“I... I don’t know!” Lydia answered. The shard took seconds, and the light was even brighter than ever before.
Floir chuckled after finally seeing Lydia’s frowning expression. “Rookie mistake, Obsidian. Don’t you ever try to help your enemies.” She shuffled within Lydia’s hands which caused a forceful release between the two of them.
“No!!” Lydia screamed. Her tears this time were real. She made the biggest frown that even Leo and Forrest had never seen before.
The ground below all three of them began to crackle as well.
“We’re going to fall into the ocean!” Forrest cried. “I don’t want to die!”
Leo grabbed onto Forrest. “Hold on tightly. If we’re lucky, we won’t crash into the rocks!”
The three of them fell off the platform and Leo tried to grab Lydia’s hand. Successfully, he was able to and Lydia had to close her eyes.
“It’s… my fault this time. I really am causing problems to everyone,” Lydia cried.
Both Leo and Forrest could see her crying in true emotion before they made their way to the ocean. The violet shard… was actually the sympathy shard, the shard that unlocked her real emotions. [End music]
