Episode 28 - A Shameful Runaway

The Obsidian Tale

Episode 28
[Opening 3 music]

~ Grandine Hillage – outside the inn ~

“Lydia?” Felix appeared from the front door of the inn. Lydia was nowhere in sight.
He would have been more stressed if it weren’t for the calmest village he has ever been in. Children were running around with each other while parents gossiped about their child growing up to be very knowledgeable. Dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, and even horses roamed freely across the village.
Felix continued to hear a stream of water pouring from the right side of the inn. As he reached the stream, he noticed that Lydia was standing above a bridge. Two doves were standing on the rails of the bridge, one on each side from Lydia. [Music 20.3]
            “Lydia, there you are!”
The two birds abruptly flew away. Lydia slowly turned around with a frown on her face.
“I just wanted to check if you were okay.”
Lydia gave a smile filled with both kindness and concern. “Felix, thank you.”
            “Huh?”
“I never thanked you enough for helping me throughout this journey. We just need one more shard and I can finally be myself again. But, the more important thing is – what do we do about the Gammel army?”
Felix raised his fists in the air with pride. “What are you talking about? Getting those shards are really important! As for the Gammel army, I feel like there is a way to stop them, but we don’t have the details yet. Luckily, I had a meeting with my father back in Bafuul.”
            Lydia gasped. “Your father? He…”
Felix stopped her. “I know he sent you to a bedroom in Bafuul, but he told me everything. He only did it to stall time so that we would come and save you.”
“He’s not plotting alongside with the government?”
“I thought so too, but I had it wrong all this time.”
“Oh goodness, that is great to hear!” The two became quiet. “What are your plans now?”
Felix began stretching his arms. He then stood next to her. “Well, I checked the world map with Hazel and the others at the inn. It looks like we’re heading to Vector, but I need to head south on the way there – to the Village of Saradeli.”
“The village is on the way?”
“Yep! And this is good news for Forrest and his friends! I remember when I first met Forrest, I vowed to find them a better and safer place to live in. He was so happy to hear me promise him such a thing. Now, I can finally fulfill that promise and take those four to the village. I don’t want my mom to feel alone.”
Lydia tilted her head. “Why not stay with her?”
“I would, but there are lots of unanswered questions that I have with the Gammel army. I still need to find and talk to Clyde and my father. As for Forrest, he was able to take his friends back. His quest is pretty much done.”
Lydia turned back to the stream of water, and then at the sunset in front of them. “I see. Well, it’s true that this journey can be too dangerous for Forrest. I think it’s a safe idea to bring Forrest to the village and keep him there.”
“Exactly. I think he would love to finally live in peace!”
“Hehe,” Lydia giggled, “you’re always thinking about others, Felix.”
Felix blushed. “Wh-What?! I mean, I am. But, you don’t have to mention it.”
Lydia chuckled even louder. “Ahahah, you don’t have to hide it either!”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” He scratched his cheek. “Anyways, it’s nice to finally have an actual conversation with you, Lydia.”
Lydia shook her head. “Mhm, I’ll bet. I can imagine how hard it was to say hi to someone who lost her personality. Remember when I used to punch you for no reason?”
            Felix coughed. “Don’t mention that!”
She pushed him softly on the arm. “Now I can do it again, but on purpose. Mess with me and I’ll punch harder next time,” She joked.
“Eheh, gee you’re really sounding like Rina right now.”
“What can I say? I learned to stay brave and it’s all because of her. I hope she is doing better.”
            “Yeah, I hope so too.”
Lydia clapped her hands together. “Hey! Is everyone taking Hazel’s tour right now?”
            “Oh shoot! I think so!!”
Lydia began heading towards the end of the bridge. “Why don’t we take a stroll around the village on our own? I don’t need a tour guide to go sight-seeing! Heehee.”
Felix laughed. “If you want to, then that’s okay with me!”
“Yay!” She said happily. It was strange to Felix. He has never seen her so calm and happy before. At any rate, the two of them decided to take a walk around the village on their own. [End music]

A Thing or Two About Animals

~ Grandine Hillage – the top of the hill ~

“And here we are, next to the church, and also the grave of our two favorite heroes – Luna and Orlando!” Hazel said as she stepped aside for the group to see. [Music 20.2]
Warren was on his knees, clasping his hands together and bowing down to the graves in front of him. “To two of our truest warriors…”
Leo placed his right hand to his heart to show his respects. The three children, excluding Jess, were still standing in confusion. Jess tried to follow Leo’s pose.
Forrest ran up to Orlando’s grave. “What happened to them?”
Hazel frowned. “They… were lost along the war against Waltzer. However, their sacrifice is what helped end the dispute with Waltzer and his undying soul. He was forever sealed away, and that was all Orlando and Luna ever wanted.”
Forrest took a few steps away to pick a few flowers out of the ground. He then placed some in front of the grave.
“For the coolest heroes in the world,” Forrest said. He always had an extremely high respect for heroes, after all.
Spencer and Sydney did the same. They looked for flowers nearby, and then they placed them on Luna’s grave.
Warren chuckled. “They were such wondrous people. They were like the older brother and sister to me, always bickering at each other.”
“And you were always in between, crying because of their yapping,” Hazel said.
“H-Hazel, please, not now,” He blushed.
“Hehe, alright. The show’s over. Now, I must take you all to the cape.”
Forrest interrupted her, “Whoa!” He called out. He ran around the grave and noticed that behind it, they were atop the highest hill in the village. They were about five to six stories high and they could see almost the entire plain from where they were standing. You could almost see the mist clogged up above ground level and a few hawks were flying around during the sunset.
“You would expect that the world would be blue and green,” Jess commented, “but in this peaceful village, the entire plain is yellow and brown, but in a very soothing manner.”
“I would have to agree with you there,” Leo added.
Hazel snapped her fingers. “That’s right. That is exactly why they chose this place as their grave spot.”

Sydney's Attraction

The church bell rang and a bunch of orphaned children began running towards the tables in front for dinner. Hazel saw them and this reminded her of her precious orphaned children back in Ouli Brye, especially Remy.
“I will come back for them someday,” She thought to herself. [End music]

~ Grandine Hillage – inn - lobby ~

Hours later, Lydia yawned as she took a step into the lobby. Felix appeared after holding the door for her. As they were about to close the door, Hazel stood behind them. Her foot blocked the door and the archway.
“Took you two long enough,” Hazel glared at them.
Felix squealed. “Egh! Hazel! Why do you always come out of nowhere?”
            “Do I?” She teased.
“You missed out on so much!” Forrest said as he jumped in front of Leo.
“We just got back too,” Jess said.
Lydia pointed to the right side of the inn. “We went for a stroll around the village and started over there.”
Hazel entered the lobby. “Ah, so you visited the grave first. We did everything in reverse. Anyway, I must speak to the innkeeper and check how your friend is doing.”
“Oh, let me come with you!” Lydia pleaded. Hazel shrugged, indicating that it was okay to do so.
As the two of them spoke to the innkeeper, Felix turned to the group.
“Did you two go on a date?~” Sydney teased him.
“A date?!” Felix blushed. “No, we didn’t! We just needed some fresh air, that’s all.”
“Sureeeee,” Forrest went along with Sydney. Even Jess managed to chuckle. Spencer didn’t know what a date was.
“What?!” Hazel shouted from the back counter.
Lydia frowned. “Rina is… missing?!” [Music 11.2]
The old innkeeper said in her low and quiet voice, “I-I’m sorry. I closed the door so she could get a good rest without having people rustle in and out of the lobby. The next time I went in there, she disappeared and the window was open.”
Lydia placed her head on the front counter as she covered her face with her arms. “No…” Her voice mumbled beneath her arms.
Felix said to the innkeeper from afar, “Where could she be?! Do you know?”
            “I do not know. I am sorry…”
Leo rolled his eyes. “Tch, that girl, always rushing into things on her own.”
Lydia thought about the situation carefully. “Let’s see, why would she run off and where?”
Spencer said to Sydney in disappointment, “Aww… I guess we aren’t going to the windy cave thingy.”
“I know right?” Sydney said sadly.
“I got it!” Lydia shouted. “Windy cave?! Rina must be there!”
            “Wait, why?” Felix questioned.
“Rina wants to learn more magic, and she only has fire, earth, and water. The only element left is wind, and it’s such a huge convenience that the plains and this village work with natural wind power.”
Hazel was amazed at her deduction. “Ah, you seem quite on-point there. The village does work on wind energy. That’s how the streams keep water flowing.”
Warren shivered. “A-Are we going through the plains again?”
Forrest looked up at his face. “What’s wrong? Afraid of crashing into those bunnies again?~”
            “Geh…” Warren wept.
Felix said to the group, “Then it’s settled. We are going to that cave. Even if Rina isn’t there, then at least we narrowed down the places that she could be at. That means she could either be here in the village still, or she headed west.”
Leo stopped them. “Hold on then. Should some of us stay and scout the village now that we are familiar with the landscape?”
“That sounds like a wonderful idea.”
Warren suddenly spoke immediately. “I volunteer to stay in the village.”
Forrest tugged onto his clothing. “You’re gonna go with me!”
Leo glared at him. “Forrest, you just want to see him whimper.”
            “Shhh!” Forrest whispered.
Sydney whined. “Aww, I wanna go with Forrest too!”
            “Me too!” Spencer followed.
Jess said to Warren, “Lieutenant, might I come along with?”
Warren almost cried. “F-Fine, I guess I have to take care of all you children.”
Hazel agreed with their plan. “Good. I think it would be best for Warren to go as he is the only other person familiar with the Hollow Cavern. Leo and I can stay here and search the village. While we are at it, we will devise a plan on how to deal with the Gammel government next.” [End music]
Leo smiled. “Ah, working together with another and knowledgeable tactician.”
“Heh, I’m no tactician. I am just the informational speaker and you are the one to artistically use the information to your advantage to devise a plan.”
“I like what I am hearing,” Leo said.
The group began to part ways until they find Rina. Even in the night, they all had determination to find Rina as soon as possible.

~ Hollow Cavern - entrance ~

At the entrance of the cavern, Lydia stopped behind Warren after seeing a backpack left on the ground.
“Everyone,” Lydia said. “I think only I should go.”
Felix knelt down. “Hey, isn’t this Rina’s backpack?”
Lydia carried it onto her back. “Yeah… She’s very protective of her backpack. I must give it to her myself.”
“Aww,” Forrest whined. “Why can’t we come with you?”
Lydia gave them a smile. “Silly, Rina cherishes this backpack with all her heart. It was the only thing that she brought with her from her homeland apparently, and she trusts none other than me to give it back to her. If she knew you all were here, she’d be angry to see that she left her backpack in plain sight for others to grab.” [Music 9.2]
Forrest turned away. “Fine, but I wanna see the other side later! Come on Warren, let’s beat some bunny butts if we have to waste time out here. The one who can shoot the most wins!”
            “Forrest!” Jess yelled at him.
            “Okay…” Forrest said in disappointment.
Warren shivered. “I-I’d rather stay here and protect the cave than to go back on that field and run from those bunnies.”
Sydney sat on a rock next to him. “Sit with us! Tell us your stories about bunnies and why you’re so scared of them.”
“Why?! I would not enjoy speaking of that to others!”
“Please, please, pretty pleaaaaase??” Sydney begged.
            “Egh…”
Felix laughed. “I also want to know too.” He then said to Lydia, “Hey, you be careful, okay? I’ll give you a few minutes before we come along in case something happens to you.”
Lydia shook her head.” Mhm, thank you. That’s more than enough time.” She began heading into the cave but it was only a minute walk to the other side. There was no sight of Rina up ahead, but at least now they could confirm she is here somewhere.
The moment Lydia headed into the cave, Jess turned to Forrest, “Hey, can we move away for a minute? I need to speak to you about something.”
“Are you still mad that I was joking about shooting the bunnies? Jess, you know I’m not serio-“
“It’s not about that. Just come with me.”
“Can I come too?!” Spencer jumped.
“I’m sorry,” Jess said, “It’s a private matter with Forrest.”
Sydney pouted. “Hmph.” As they left, she said to Warren and Sydney, “I wanted to be alone with Forrest…”
“Why??” Spencer was very confused, but Warren and Felix tried to stop Sydney from answering the question. Spencer must maintain his innocence! [End music]

From the side of the cavern, Jess sat down on a small boulder while Forrest did the same beside her.
            “What is it, Jess?”
“I needed to talk to you about Bailey.” [Music 8.3]
“Oh him! Yeah, what about him? It sucks that he couldn’t come with us, by the way.”
Jess had her legs crossed as she looked up into the stars above. “I had some discussions with Bailey, and I realized something.” Forrest waited for her to continue. “I could not persuade Bailey to leave the Gammel army, and I feel that only you can do it.”
            “Me?? Wait, why?”
“Bailey is actually a troubled child who did not know what a ‘mom’ or ‘dad’ was prior to meeting us.”
Forrest gave the most confused look. His eyes squinted and his mouth was almost turned up-side down. “What the? Even I know what parents are and I haven’t had them for seven years!”
“That’s exactly it. They must have been gone long before Bailey grew up. Have you noticed the ‘expressions’ that child makes all the time?”
            “All the time, yeah.”
“Well, those expressions are actually Bailey’s normal face. That demented look on that child’s face… you can only imagine Bailey had gradually gone through one of the nastiest childhoods ever – probably dealing with lots of deaths and bloody wars right in front of their eyes that it has become a normal condition. Bailey told me that when looking at bloody soldiers in the Gammel army, it didn’t phase that child at all.”
Forrest felt terrible now. “Oh, I didn’t know… but why do you think only I can save him?”
“The moment you asked Bailey to join us, Bailey slightly made a smile, but you could barely see it. I thought maybe if you kept bantering with that child, they would give in. You must persuade to keep Bailey away from the Gammel army or else things would get worse for that child, perhaps even death.”
“Death?!” Forrest shrieked. “OH! Jess! This must be it, IT HAS TO BE IT!”
            “Hm?”
Forrest stood up as he said with pride, “My fortune!! He has to be the one in my fortune!”
Jess repeated the fortune for Forrest’s yellow cape, “Yellow stabilizes between the heart of what is right and what is wrong. However, what seems ‘wrong’, can be the right thing to do. When your most loved one may fall, like a crackle in the ground, you will learn to pick yourself up no matter what.”
“Exactly! I think… I think it means that what seems ‘wrong’ is actually the right thing to do – meaning that I have to go against the Gammel government even if it seems wrong to do that! And my most loved one could mean a friend that I care about the most, and that could be Bailey.”
Jess added to his theory, “And as Bailey may fall like a crackle in the ground, you will learn to pick yourself up no matter what.”
Forrest was about to take his yellow cape off of his back. “If that’s the case, I have to take this off. I have to give up on this terrible fortune. I don’t want Bailey to die!”
Jess stopped him. “No. The fortune states that Bailey may fall, so that could be avoided while going against the Gammel government.”
            Forrest grinned. “But, Bailey…”
“Bailey will be okay, as long as that child is in your hands. Just promise me that you will do this for me, Sydney, and Spencer.”
Forrest nodded. “O-Okay, I promise to keep Bailey alive! Thank you so much, Jess! I will keep this fortune in my head from now on. I will find Bailey and save him!” [End music]
“Good. Thanks for listening, Forrest. I believe in you.”
“Hehe!” Forrest gave a huge smile that even his teeth shined in the dark.
Jess gave a chuckle with relief.

~ Hollow Cavern – upper cape ~

Before Lydia reached the outside cape from the other side of the cavern, she examined the field that was half as large as what you would see from a football field. She turned to her left and she noticed that Rina was sitting by a boulder. Her back was against the large rock as she was breathing heavily while having dust all over her cheeks.
“Rina, there you are! You forgot your backpack.”
Rina gasped. “Lydia, what are you doing here?!”
“We all came to look for you. Now, what are you doing here?”
Rina coughed. “I just… finished battling that Pria lady again. She taught me how to use wind magic. Wanna see?” [Music 17.2]
Lydia dropped the backpack as she grabbed both of Rina’s hands, “Please, stop it, Rina!”
            “Huh? Why…”
Lydia began to cry. “I don’t want to see you get hurt anymore. Right before you came here, you were on a bed, resting. That clearly means you have to stay in bed until you’re healed!”
            “I’m fin-“
“No!! It’s not fine, Rina! You had me so worried. If you overdo yourself, you could die from exhaustion.” She began to hug Rina, “I don’t want my best friend to disappear this early, not like this. You shouldn’t be reckless anymore, Rina. Please, please listen to me!”
Rina was about to cry as well. “I left… because I wanted to become stronger.” She turned to the ocean beside them from below. “I’m doing it because I’m not strong enough. If only I could stop that damn Talbot scientist from taking your memory away, I would have. If I could have stopped King Nader and those Gammel lieutenants in Ouli Brye, I would have! Then, we wouldn’t have split up and I wouldn’t have had to look for you all this time! When we finally found each other, I couldn’t even move. You saw me, didn’t you?!”
Lydia was struck by her raising voice.
Rina continued. “You finally saw me again, but I was badly injured! The innkeeper knew of Obsidian energy because she learned about it from Hazel. She told me… She told me that I had accidentally inhaled some of the chemical energy back at the laboratory in Troiya. That’s why I got badly sick this time around, but she took care of me the past few hours and I feel fine. I can finally get back on my feet and prove to you that I’m strong enough to protect you!”
Lydia was stunned at what she was hearing. Rina never admitted how she felt about her weaknesses to her before.
“Rina, you are strong, and you always were ever since I met you. I feel as if I became a stronger person because of you, and that will never change. You managed to make people scared of you, and that just shows how independent you can be. The lack of independence is you having to come out here on your own without being completely healed.”
Rina had nothing to say as she knew Lydia was right. [End music]
“Now, put on your backpack and let’s go back to the group. They are waiting outside for you.”
Rina grabbed her backpack as she hugged it. “Thank you so much…”
“We don’t have to tell them about how you feel about yourself. It’s better to show instead of telling them anyway, right?”
“You’re right. I’m sorry for troubling you, Lydia. I will protect you, but at a good pace from now on.”
“Good!” Lydia said as she wiped her tears away. “Stand up, Rina. We’re going back together.”
The two young teenagers stood up, looking at the moonlight one more time together before rejoicing with the group. When would be the next time they get to see something like this?
[Ending 3 music]

Orlando - Character Page

Orlando
- "It doesn't matter whether your opinions are right wrong. Bringing the death of others is not the way to solve the problem! Wait, is that free food?! You've got my vote!"

Characteristics - Orlando only appears in flashbacks from Hazel's story. He is seen as a heroic figure, especially by Forrest, for risking his life to save Rhadessia from Waltzer and restore order. Well, some heroes have their own tropes. Even as a 19-year old, he was a goofball who liked free food. Even worse, he's much of an airhead who can't tell whether a girl like Luna likes him or not. He can't tell anything apart, and he has a bad sense of direction.

Appearance - Orlando may look serious, but don't let that lack of a smile fool you! He's one of the nicest persons out there and he treats Hazel like a little sister. After a nice, warm shower, he would dry his hair and it would stick up without much effort. Guess he doesn't need conditioner. His outfit makes him a bit cheery and girls have always fallen for that odd getup. At least he doesn't have to worry about finding free food...

Luna - Character Page

Luna
- "What?! I-It's not like I like you or anything. You're utterly disgusting! I was just saving your butt because I need someone to dislike."

Characteristics - Luna only appears in flashbacks from Hazel's past history twenty years ago. According to Hazel, Luna is seen as a strong-willed woman who also had trouble doing things independently. Whenever she gets help, she pretends she never needed it. He also had a crush on Orlando, but we should all pretend she doesn't because Luna dislikes the idea of falling in love at such a young age. She puts self-pride over anybody else.

Appearance - Luna has azure hair with a band on top of her head - the shape of cat ears to set her apart from others. Her favorite color is red, surprisingly - as seen with her red ribbons. She prefers androgynous clothing mostly because she wants to feel at ease with clothing that are not too tight on her. Sometimes she can be nice, but she doesn't want to show her kind side - which is exactly why she isn't smiling in her portrait. Of course, Luna.

Episode 27-29 will be a three-episode special!

Good evening, readers!

The first opening took about 16 hours total, whereas the second opening took almost 20 hours to complete.

For some odd reason, adding one extra step to the third opening's drawing is taking a lot more time. I'm about 22 hours in, and I'm only halfway done... At any rate, this one's going to be good!

For this reason, this image will involve 45 hours of effort (I'm about 36 hours in at the moment) and the next three episodes will be released as a special. Have a great one!

Episode 27 - The History of Waltzer

The Obsidian Tale

Episode 27
[Opening 3 music]

~ Opel Plains – southwestern plateau ~

The Opel Plains and Grandine Hillage coincide with each other. For the Grandine Hillage, it was a safe space and quiet village that strayed away from war due to the vast distance of the Opel Plains. Ever had those kind of friends who barely said much and kept their distance, thus made no enemies with others? The Grandine Hillage was very similar. There were many children happily playing together around every parts of the road. Funny enough, you could claim that every person here is wealthy, but chose not to live in the city. They had water, food, and shelter without struggling to work much.
Children played tag together, and they slowly stopped when a large shadow was coming closer from the sky at a 45-degree angle.
“Mommy, mommy, look!” The child said with laughter.
The boy’s mother quickly grabbed his arm and they ran into the house. “No, boy! It looks like it could be headin’ this way!”
Many of their parents took cover after taking their children into their wooden homes. The main group that we have been dying to see- er, well, let’s use another word… The main group that we have been waiting to see since their almost-crash landing has come closer to the village. Luckily, Warren barely made it in time to steer away from the village and into the plains by a mere second. [Music 27.1]
The entrance to the airship broke apart and the group was left with a large hole in the room that they were sitting in. Felix and Leo were the first to peer out of the airship and what they saw was the most beautiful landscape ever. Wild animals such as bison, deer, pronghorns, rabbits, and even land turtles strived together. Forrest and Sydney raced their way to the broken exit.
“Look at all those deer running together!!” Sydney said in her squeaky voice. “Hehehe!”
“Whoa… Where are we?” Forrest said with awe.
Rina felt her forehead. She was one of the few members who did not turn out well from the crash landing. Her body seemed find, but her mind felt a little weary.
“Ergh…” Rina said. “I feel a headache coming.”
Lydia grabbed onto Rina’s other hand. “Do you need to rest?”
Spencer was still breathing heavily and Jess was holding onto him as tightly as she could.
“Take deep breaths, Spencer. Hold in, and then push out.”
Forrest turned around. “Is Spencer okay?!”
Sydney felt guilty. “Sometimes he gets these problems but Jess is the only one who is smart enough to calm him down.”
“How come I never seen this happen to him?”
“It started happening when you left Kyrie. I think he grew into it because you were gone. He was very worried and these weird breathing things keep happening to him.”
Leo whispered to them, “It must be a developed asthma attack. “
“It’s my fault, isn’t it?” Forrest said slowly.
Spencer slowed down and his breathing was almost back to normal.
Jess smiled. “This one must have been one of the toughest ones you’ve faced, Spencer. I want you to continue thinking happy thoughts.”
Spencer sighed. “Okay… but I feel like I let you down. We survived the landing, but I still got these problems.”
Jess shook her head. “No, no. Don’t think like that, Spencer. I would say that your fortune came true.”
            “Huh??”
“The fortune that your blue scarf gave you. Remember: Blue marks the sailing sea. Deep down inside you, you know that fighting crime can be found through smooth, calm conversations, and that in order to win, you must call for a proper and mature treaty or something.”
Spencer felt confused. “But how did that work here?”
“It is figuratively speaking,” Jess responded. Spencer was still quiet. “It means that your body fended off evil and in order to calm itself down, your body spoke to that evil, and you finally relaxed. I would say this was a very mature turnout for you, Spencer.”
Spencer giggled. “R-Really?! Cool, I’m mature! I’m mature, everyone!!”
The group began to laugh together for a good ten seconds.
“Ah,” Felix said. “It’s good to see that we can all keep our high spirits together!”
“I agree,” A deep, womanly voice appeared from behind the drapes nearby the window.
“Me too,” Forrest said with them. “Wait, what??”
The entire group turned their heads to the drapes.
“The fabric is talking,” Warren joked.
Felix grabbed onto his sheathed crescent blade. “Who’s there?!”
The blinds were pushed to the side and what the group saw was a very familiar face. Well, half of the group at least.
“Hola! It’s me, Hazel.” She said as she snapped her fingers.
“Goodness, what language is that?” Leo questioned.
Warren’s eyes were wide open. Rina made a huge gasp and Felix was stunned for a second.
            “H-Hazel?! You’re alive!” Felix shouted.
“Of course I am! You’d think a crazy beast like the Terraineous would stop me?”
Warren took a step forward. “It really is you, Hazel! I recognize that sass anywhere.”
“Who said I got sass? I’m a kind and loving potential-mother with several orphaned children who don’t need any man to take care of me. Anyway, it’s nice to see you again, Warren Oxner.”
Lydia noticed that Hazel had a set of arrows in her side-pocket.
Felix turned to both Warren and Hazel simultaneously. “Hold on, you two know each other?”
“Oh boy, there is lots to tell. Why don’t we find a proper place to rest and talk about all of this later?”
Forrest’s stomach growled. “That sounds good to me. Is there a place nearby so we can eat??”
Without needing a map, Hazel answered him right away. “Why yes! There is a place nearby called the Grandine Hillage. I wanted to check stuff out there anyway.”
Warren began heading for the exit. “I remember as well. Let us head to the inn as soon as possible, and we can take that young woman to the beds.” Warren pointed to Rina.
As Warren took a step out of the airship, he made the loudest, manliest yell ever. “GRAAAAH!!!!”
“What is it?!” Felix panicked. “Warren, what’s wrong?!” He watched Warren shake furiously.
“Uh oh,” Lydia added. “Something horrible must have happened outside!”
Forrest ran past Warren to check what he saw. “Er…”
Warren began to whimper. “I can’t believe such things are here! Not again!”
Forrest walked closer to a rabbit that was in front of Warren. “I don’t get it. It’s just a little rabbit.” Sydney pushed him away as she carried the rabbit away from Forrest.
“It’s a friendly rabbit! It likes being touched!” She turned around and pushed the rabbit closer to Warren’s face.
Warren fell backwards, screaming again. “ARGH!!!”
Hazel began laughing. “I see you still have a phobia against little bunnies… Nothing ever changes with you.”
Warren clenched his fists. “This is no time for laughter!”
“I… won’t ask,” Felix chuckled. [End music - after optional scenes]

Hazel the Ghost

Warren's Inner Child

~ Grandine Hillage – outside the inn ~

Along their walk, many family members were staring at the group making their way to the inn. However, these family members were more concerned about their safety from the crash landing instead of judging them for being outsiders. [Music 20.2]
“Why are they looking at us??” Forrest asked.
“I think they’re judging us for being outsiders,” Felix answered.
Hazel was in front of the group. She guided them to the inn. “To answer your question, no: they are not judging you. Most of these families must have recognized both Warren and I from our travels together several years ago. There is a hill further into the village where our two closest friends passed away. I’ll show you around once we take a rest.”
Warren waved at some of the familiar parents and some of the children copied their parents’ hand motions as they waved back with a smile.
At the inn, a five-foot old woman stood by the entrance. “Why, if it isn’t Hazel.” She said in a raspy voice, “It is good to see you back. If I knew you were coming sooner, I would have prepared a full course meal.”
Hazel chuckled. “Ohoho, there is no need for that. Anything to give this group a meal would be fine.”
“Who is this old lady?” Sydney rudely asked.
“Sydney! Be respectful,” Jess said immediately.
The old woman laughed. “Ooh, how very cunning and cute.” She gave a smile. “I am the elder chief of this village. I will ask the maids and butlers to help create a large meal for you all.”
As she went into the inn, Hazel turned around to face the whole group. “I used to live here after our journey with Warren and the others came to an end. I left because I heard there was something going on in Ouli Brye with King Nader and I went undercover as some ‘mother of an orphanage’.”
Leo gasped. “So you were a spy?”
“You could say that. While there, I learned all about you, Leonardo. Don’t worry though, I am on your side. I felt I would return to this village once all of that Gammel and Lennox rivalry was over, but it looks like things are barely heating up. Come, we should talk more in the lobby of the inn. I think the young woman, Rina, needs a bed.”
Lydia had Rina resting against her shoulder. “You’re going to be okay, Rina.” Rina only replied with a few coughs as the group began heading into the inn.

~ Grandine Hillage – inn - bedroom ~

Lydia had already placed Rina onto the bed closest to the window. The cream-colored blinds were slid to each end and the wind burst into the bedroom like a fan set on ‘low’. Lydia stretched her arms and then she sat down next to Rina.
            “How are you feeling?”
“A little better. Thank you for being there for me.”
“Of course I will be there for you, Rina. You’re my best friend and nothing is going to change that.” [End music]
Rina took a look outside – the inn was sitting right beside the plains and the edge of the village. [Music 18.1]
“Heh. Sometimes I wonder though, how do you deal with someone like me?”
            “What do you mean?”
“I’m always yelling at people and they’re all afraid of me, especially that little runt of a child.”
Lydia giggled. “You mean Forrest? Well, I know that deep down, there is a good side to everyone. Everyone.”
            “Even the Gammel army?”
“That might be pushing it, but even I feel as if some of their members are good-hearted people. Take Warren for example.”
“But he is already siding with us. At first, I thought he was untrustable, but it seems he proved good when he helped us out at Bafuul. Even the Gammel lieutenants were against him. For me, I don’t think I have a good side.”
Lydia stood up. “Stop right there. You do. You did so much to save me and take those shards back. You’ve traveled through half of this entire continent just to find me.”
“That’s because… I felt like it was a duty of mine to partake. I did it because I owed you.”
“You didn’t do it as a friend?”
“Well yeah, of course I did! It’s just… I feel like that’s not the only reason.”
            “What are you talking about?”
“There is something else. Another reason, and you might know it by now.”
Lydia patted Rina’s head. “I have a good feeling. There is something about you that you told no one but me, right?”
“That’s still true up to today.”
“You can talk about it when you are ready. Right now, it’s important that you get some rest.”
Rina examined her palms. “These hands seem fine. I’ve learned earth and water magic since we split up. I’m looking for the last element, wind. I just don’t know where it would be.”
“That woman we met at Silver Forest, did you meet up with her again?”
“Yes. She was the one who taught me. I need to find her.”
“Why are you so eager to learn them?”
Rina sighed. “Two reasons – one, I need to get stronger to protect you. And two, I feel like it’s a part of that duty that I need to complete.”
“I see… Well, I can protect myself as well, so you don’t have to put so much on your plate. Just take your time, okay?”
            “I will, thanks Lydia.”
Lydia headed for the door. “I’m going to head for the lobby right outside this room so that we can discuss our next situation together. I’ll fill you in on the details later.” Rina shook her head and Lydia headed for the main group. [End music]

~ Grandine Hillage – inn - lobby~

On the couch, Warren, Leo, and Felix sat together. The four children sat on a couch from the other side of the table, eating as much bread as they could, especially now that they were able to eat at least a little fancier than in Kyrie. Lydia stood next to Felix while Hazel was standing, isolated from everybody else. [Music 16.2]
Hazel had her arms crossed. “Good, you’re here, Lydia.”
Felix and Lydia gave each other a smile of grief before the discussion began.

The Petting Zoo

“Now, I would like to summarize our situation from the very beginning based on what you all have told me throughout our walk from the plains. Let’s begin with Warren and I.”
Warren raised his hand. “May I chime in if necessary?”
“That is fine with me.” She had a crumbled paper in front of her as she set it onto the table. “Twenty years ago,” She began writing words and then she bubbled them in like a brainstormed rough draft, “I ventured with five other friends, one of them being Warren. Two of them rest at this very grave in the Grandine Hillage – Luna and Orlando. A fifth man, one whom I was closest to, happens to live in the snow continent in which we claim as a part of the Winstel army – a third-party army incomparable to Gammel and Lennox. Like the Grandine Hillage, the Winstel army vowed to keep its distance from any outsides. The sixth and last member is a woman whom I promised not to reveal. We went on a year-long journey to stop an ancient soul named Waltzer.”
Forrest took a large piece of bread out of his mouth. “Was Warren still scared of bunnies back then?”
Warren blushed. “Why must you pester with my past?” He frowned.
“No, but he was afraid of other things such as spiders and blood and all sorts of the kind. He just had an irrelevant issue with bunnies, but we can let that slide for now.”
Sydney and Spencer began giggling to each other. Hazel went on, “Back to Waltzer. There was only one single army at the time and we had no name for them as we were all unified together in peace. Upon doing more research in the millennium-year old Merridian Laboratory just east of Ouli Brye, a man named Igor discovered an old ruins. Within these ruins were the last remnants of Waltzer, a man who was sealed away almost 980 years before the discovery. Without knowing the dangers of Waltzer, Igor had unknowingly revived Waltzer through research.”
Most of the group gasped. Sydney and Spencer repeatedly whispered, “Revived?!” to each other. [End music]
“Where is he now?” Felix asked. [Music 11.2]
“I am getting to that. To summarize our journey, we took a long while to come together and stop Waltzer. In his process of trying to reclaim the world as his, he had Master Magnus as his predecessor. Upon Waltzer’s failure which led to a split between three armies, Master Magnus became the leader of the Gammel army, vowing to go the opposite direction of Waltzer.”
“Master Magnus today is seen as a heroic figure who is trying to bring peace to the world by using Obsidian energy. However, it is rather strange to hear conspiracies of the Gammel army, but I am well aware that now it is true.”
Hazel shook her head in agreement. “That is quite true. Master Magnus claimed that he was going the opposite direction. However, he is no different from Waltzer.”
Leo snapped his fingers. “Ah, so he is the leader of all leaders in the Gammel army and its government. All we have to do is play a game of chess and capture the king. Only a few moves and it’s checkmate.”
Hazel grinned. “If only it were that easy. Chess usually involves quite a bunch of sacrifices in order to win, and I do not want to go through that route.”
Lydia became worried. “So what does Waltzer and Master Magnus have to do with the Obsidian energy that the Gammel government wants today?”
“Good question,” Hazel said. “After thirteen years, or seven years ago from today, the Gammel army started to make its move.” She began writing more onto the piece of paper in front of her.
Warren added to her story, “While I was in Gammel’s services, I spoke to Master Magnus about the eradication of Obsidians in order to keep control of their energy. They claimed that it was better to have control of the energy and reallocate such energy to places that lacked nature and life instead of letting such energy flow freely. With this claim, the Gammel army did not bother to tell the Winstel and Lennox armies. In order to keep this all a secret, they had to eradicate all of the Obsidians.”
Lydia placed her hand by her chest. “Mmph…” She said with discomfort.
“Lydia, are you alright?” Felix asked with concern.
            Lydia looked away. “Y-Yeah…”
“At that moment of eradication,” Hazel continued, “Professor Talbot had a tracking device placed on the Frolix Volcano. This tracker indicated that only one young girl existed but it did not track where she was running off to. This gave the Gammel army the suspicion that the little girl could not have gone far, so she must have ran southeast towards a village nearby the jungle. Lieutenant Floir was asked to find the last person still alive – Lydia Yager.”
Forrest stood up. “Whoa! That’s where the story last started when Lydia’s mom talked to us!”
“Forrest,” Leo tried to stop him. He knew that Lydia was becoming uncomfortable. He was afraid Forrest would trigger her even more.
Lydia said to them, “It’s okay. My adoptive mother, Ekaja, was from the village of Taujiko. I ran there and met Rina seven years ago. We both escaped to the Meadow for the next seven years in peace until Lieutenant Floir finally found us again.”
“It took them a good seven years,” Warren said slowly. “How cunning.”
Felix tilted his head. “Wait, where did Rina come from?”
“She never told us.” Lydia said abruptly. [End music]
Leo yawned. “So, what’s our next plan now that we’re stuck here in this village?”
Hazel took out a world map. “I’ve had this when I was only fourteen years old. Look here.” She pointed north of Loomin, “Remember when we saw an airship come from that direction?”
Warren gasped. “That’s it! That airship was Master Magnus’s favorite.” [Music 13.1]
Felix was shaking. “Hold on a minute. How many airships are there? My father told me Clyde left on an airship with the last shard.”
Leo placed his fingers through the distance between north of Loomin, and Bafuul. “This would give Clyde enough time to fly towards Vector, Gammel’s home territory, and then Master Magnus must have used the same ship to head back into Bafuul as we left.”
“If we were a little slower,” Warren said, “Master Magnus would have damaged our escape and the Obsidian would be no more.”
Lydia took a step back. “How could they all just…” She turned away as she ran outside of the inn.
“Lydia!” Felix called out to her. “Ergh, this is not fair,” He punched the side of the couch. “The government is lying to the world that they can easily reallocate energy, yet they’re only gaining the source from one person in this world – Lydia?!”
“Relax, Felix!” Hazel yelled. “This is no time to get out of control. We know how terrible it seems for the Gammel government to act this way, but we must keep calm and collected.”
Spencer was sitting next to Jess, still eating his sweetened bread. “Wow, she’s so cool!” He said in awe. “She’s just like you, Jess!”
Jess gave a warming smile. “Oh, but she has had much more experience with adventure.”
Hazel chuckled while eavesdropping on them. She then concluded their discussion, “This should be enough for now.”
Leo said with a snarky remark, “Hazel, might I ask how you got into the airship that we escaped with?”
Hazel blushed. “Uh- um, about that… Eheh…” She sighed, knowing that she could not lie. “Fine. I wanted to infiltrate Bafuul because I needed to know more information about their tactics. I’ve heard lots from the Yucan Tempa.”
            “You were there?!”
“Why yes, I was. Egel could not stop talking nonsense about me but I had hoped he kept it subtle. The point is, I was at Bafuul for a moment and I was already in the airship before you all entered. I just kept quiet because you didn’t need any more surprises than you already had while being at Bafuul.”
Felix rolled his eyes. “Great, how nice of you to still scare us after we crashed into the plains.”
“You’re welcome. By the way, I think you should go outside and check if Lydia is okay.”
            “M-Me?!”
“You and Rina were dying to find her back at South Ouli Brye, no?”
Felix blushed. “Um, uh, I guess. Fine. I will talk to her.” [End music]
Hazel stretched her arms. “Good! As for everyone else, I might give you all a tour around the village! After that, I can take you all to the windy cave north of here. Don’t worry, the cave is very small and it would take only a minute to cross it. On the other side is a small hill with a bunch of flowers that would keep you all calm in an instant. You might even consider it as a sea’s cape.”
Rina overheard them from afar, but she did nothing.
Forrest and Sydney jumped together while Spencer decided to copy their excitement.
“Yay! We get to wander around!!” Sydney said happily.
