Episode 64 - The Spirit of Confidence

The Obsidian Tale

Episode 64
[Opening 5 music]

~ Zozna – post-eastern trial ~

Leo and Felix made their way down the airship before it completely vaporized into the sky. Professor Igor was finally gone, and it was all with the help of teamwork from the original group of eight. [Music 62.2]
It hurt Felix, knowing that he kept his promise that nobody else would die, but he knew he had to do this in order to free the professor’s control.
“Professor Igor returned and was controlled much later than Clyde. Does that mean it’s too late for him too?”
Lydia gave him a hug from behind, and she kept that way. “Felix, I know it might seem impossible, but we have to keep trying. Everybody is different, and if Clyde’s heart is strong enough, he will come back to you. You are the only one who can bring him back.”
“UGH, fine,” Rina rolled her eyes. “Suspenders, if you think talking to him will do him any good, then go for it. I’m not going to stop you, as opinions differ among each other. And what’s with you having second thoughts about it? You were so determined before!”
Felix shook the feeling out of his head. “You know what? You’re right. I’m going to stick with my beliefs. Even if it didn’t work with the professor, that doesn’t mean everybody is the same.”
Forrest raised his fists. “Yeah!! We can do it, Felix!”
The other four adults were standing further away, chuckling.
“Those children have grown quite a bit, do you think so?” Warren asked them.
Hazel agreed. “Yes, they have lived to see it all. Just like the olden days…”
Leo interrupted their conversation. “Alright chumps, it’s time to get into the second and final portal.”
Viola headed towards the remaining portal left. “We don’t want to waste any time and have people get their limbs pulled off, right?”
Forrest sighed. “She won’t stop with her scary comments…” [End music]

A Solution to Save Clyde

Plans After the Adventure

~ Zozna – western trial – Trial of Isolation ~

Felix appeared on the battlezone below Lament before his father’s life was taken away. He watched a bunch of soldiers getting killed off by mutated humans and beasts alike. Blood by blood, more appeared as he continued to stand there. There were pools of them, not just little scraps from a human being. It was as if their bodies were being bitten and shredded to pieces. [Music 55.2]
“Wh-What is this?!” His heart was beating faster. “Why am I sent out of Zozna?” He turned around, looking for his friends. “Lydia? Rina? Anybody?!”
He was no longer scared of blood after leaving the limbo state with Professor Igor, but he didn’t anticipate this much blood. He watched as the octopus monster held onto a bunch of soldiers, squishing them to bits.
Felix closed his eyes. “Why is this happening?!”
A mutated soldier ran up to him and Felix was forced to slash him away. Blood splurt all over and some struck his face.
Face the antique of what you may fear most; destroy the light that calls from within; and the door shall open…
Felix wiped the blood off of his face. “Show yourself! I’m not scared of this. It’s all fake, isn’t it?!”
He stood still, waiting for a beast to jump onto him. He would risk this – so he can confirm this is all an illusion. However, he was thrown to the ground the moment a mutated puma pounced on him. Felix kicked it over to the side and then he stabbed the beast.
            “How are they hurting me?!”
As he headed for the same battleship as his father’s, he noticed that his dad had a yellow glowing figure around his chest.
Destroy the light that calls from within…
Felix chanted that in his head after hearing it the first time at the battlefield. “This world is definitely fake, but I can still get hurt.”
“What are you going to do, my son? Are you going to stop me or what?”
Felix noticed a whole bunch of soldiers on the ground before him. “What did you do to them?!”
“They were bad, so I killed them.”
Felix turned away. “This world is warped to my dislike. Magnus, this is foul play!”
Destroy the light that calls from within…
Felix noticed the yellow light again in front of his father. “You’re not alive. You can’t play with my feelings. My one and true father is gone, and there is no way for him to come back… You’re just a fake. I have to do this if I want to move on… I have to!” [End music]

Within another space, Viola was in the City of Celestia. However, nobody noticed her at all. He watched as Floir and another Viola were speaking to each other, from seven years ago?! [Music 23.1]
            “Viola, chase after that girl!”
            “But Floir…!”
Floir slapped the young teenager on the cheek. “You listen to me RIGHT NOW! If you do not get that girl, it will be off with your head, Magnus’ orders!”
Viola’s eyes widened when watching this. Suddenly, the scene changed into something that didn’t completely happen the same way.
“You did not catch the girl? I hereby expel you from the Gammel army. Nobody will support you now. You will be all alone,” a silhouette said while sitting on the throne.
Viola clearly knew it was Magnus, watching as lieutenants Floir, Lionel, and Warren were walking away in disappointment.
The young Viola said to them in her higher-pitched voice. “Wait! What am I supposed to do now if nobody else in this world cares for me?”
The scenes blackened and now the present Viola was warped into a semi-reality world like Felix’s version. There, Floir watched her with a smile.
“There are you…” Floir said kindly.

Viola looked around. “Huh? Who said that?!”
“What are you talking about?” Floir asked. A glowing light erupted from her body.
            Viola gasped. “No…”
“What are you afraid of? If you can never defeat me, then you will never be able to brush away the things that trouble you most, and you will fail in the end.”
“But, lieutenant! I cannot do this to you!”
“Do what you must, my pupil! Or you will be alone forever.”
Viola was about to cry. “I… If I want to proceed… then I’ll have to! There is no way you are the Floir I know!!” [End music]

Forrest was back atop the tower of the Mago’Ria Fey. He watched as Jess and Bailey were talking to each other. [Music 30.1]
“OHH! Jess! So you are alive!”
“Huh??” She looked very confused. “Of course I am.”
“Wait, does this mean I’m dead?!”
            “No…”
Bailey had a dark aura appear around herself but Jess didn’t notice yet. Forrest quickly realized that this was not a real dimension if Bailey had not reverted to her usual form yet.
“Jess, look out!” He pushed her aside and Bailey grazed Forrest’s stomach. The two of them were knocked onto the ground.
Bailey gasped. “What do you think you’re doing? Get out of my way! I must kill her!”
Face the antique of what you may fear most; destroy the light that calls from within; and the door shall open…
            Forrest stopped. “What was that?”
Jess interrupted his confusion. “Forrest, why did you do that? You shouldn’t sacrifice yourself for me!”
“I don’t want you to die, not again.”
Bailey tried to slash Forrest with her sword. “You’re in my way!”
Forrest rolled away and then he took out his cubed bazooka. While doing so, he noticed that Bailey’s body began forming a strange, yellow light.
Forrest frowned. “I don’t want to hurt you either…”
“Then move out of my way! You either kill me, or the girl dies!”
Forrest pushed Jess away. “I can’t fight you, Bailey. You need to stop!”
            “Never!!”
Bailey raised her sword at him and Forrest closed his eyes. “Think, Forrest. Think! What would you do if you were Felix?” [End music]

Hazel appeared by Shiu Jo. She was surprised to see Luna and Orlando fully alive and standing right in front of her, overpassing the villagers. [Music 63.1]
            “L-Luna?! Orlando?!”
Luna turned around with a soft smile. “Yes?” She had a white gown on with a rose-petal veil.
“You recognize me? You two still look the same.”
“I apologize, but I do not recognize you.”
“As don’t I,” Orlando said. He had a soldier’s garment placed around his body.
“I don’t understand. Where are we? What year is it?”
            “R-1637. Where have you been?”
Hazel turned away. “I see… so this is just a figment of my past.”
“Leave this village at once, foreigner.”
“H-Hold on. My name is Hazel Hayashi. Do you not know who that is?!”
“That girl died several years ago. She was pathetic, annoying, and she tried so hard to be strong, but she was all talk,” Luna spouted.
Hazel took a step back. “What…?”
“She was the reason why Waltzer continued to worsen the world!”
Hazel gasped. “I didn’t revive him, however! It was only a mistake to make him angry. My false knowledge led to a worse cause, but I’m capable of staying and being strong.”
Orlando shrugged. “You’re just an old lady, but you’re just as crazy as the Hazel we knew. If you do claim you are her, then fight us!”
Face the antique of what you may fear most; destroy the light that calls from within; and the door shall open…
Hazel paused. “Ah…” Two rays of light appeared in front of both Luna and Orlando. “Two enemies at once, I see.” She took out her bow. “If I want to prove my strengths, then I will do it! I will fight you both at the same time!”
Luna took out her staff while Orlando took out his heavy blade.
“GET READY!!!” She shouted as she released a few arrows at once. [End music]

Leo’s father fell before him at the throne room. Like Viola, the true Leo was not seen. He watched as Magnus stabbed Leo’s father using an old, previous body that he had before. [Music 8.2]
“How dare you create such trickery?! You are no friend of mine!” His father shouted.
“Hah, friends? There is no such thing. When that little boy walks out of his bedroom, I will tell him that an assassin came by, and I was too late to stop him.” He threw his sword towards the other side of the room.
“Father, mother is extremely ill. She cannot mo- Father!!!” It was a younger version of Leo. “Father, not you too!” He looked up at Magnus. “What happened to him?!”
His father tried to speak. “M-M-Mag… Magh…” He fainted and Leo began to cry.
Magnus said to the young Leo, “I was too late to save him… There are assassins on the loose!”
Leo tried to punch Magnus, but his fists just went through his body. “HOW DARE YOU LIE TO ME ABOUT MY FATHER?!”
The vision turned to the present when Leo returned with the main group. Like Viola’s vision, Ace was able to see through the true Leo.
“So you decided to come back?” He had a yellow light appear from his chest.
Leo turned around. “You can see me this time?”
“Why can’t I? Are you going to spout nonsense to our country again?”
“I’m not here for that anymore. You have to understand. I’m here to regain the respect of my family.”
Face the antique of what you may fear most; destroy the light that calls from within; and the door shall open…
Leo readied his fists. “And… I-I can’t fight you like this! I have more important matters at stake here.”
“Then why don’t you prove yourself?!” He took out his rapier. “Come on!” [End music]

Rina fell on her back. She sat in front of a bright city. She began complaining, but now was not the time for that. Before her was the city of Lament in flames, and she could see her parents crying. [Music 8.3]
There was a replica of Rina with bloody knives and a fallen Faris.
Faris was in tears, trying to speak to her sister. “We loved you, Rina. Why… why would you do this to us?”
The true Rina stomped her foot. “I didn’t do that!”
Rina laughed hysterically. “This is what you all deserve for treating me like a child all these years. I will take over the city as the new queen!”
Rina watched as her sister was dying a second time now, and she had to close her eyes. “This is horrible. Why would Magnus set me up in an altered vision?!”
The fake Rina was the only person in this vision who could spot the true Rina.
“Hello there, ‘other me’. Are you here to tell them you didn’t do this? Because that would be impossible as I have clearly killed our very own sister. And guess what?” She turned around, threw two knives at both her parents. They both fell to the ground in an instant.
Rina took out her own knives. “The hell was that for?! What is up with you?”
“Does it frighten you to see more of your loved ones die like that? From your own hands?”
“No… no it doesn’t,” Rina stumbled a little.
            “Are you sure?”
“Don’t even bother questioning you, you fake!”
Face the antique of what you may fear most; destroy the light that calls from within; and the door shall open…
Rina stopped the moment she heard the voice that every other friend heard already. The fake Rina was glowing.
“Are you looking at my shiny pendant? Yeah, it’s Faris’.”
“That is not Faris’ necklace, you bastard! I’m going to destroy you!” She readied all of her elemental magic together. [End music]

Warren was in Loomin this time and the town was already obliterated by the Gammel army. [Music 62.1]
“This is the place where the Gammel army wanted to take over just so they could take the land as their own. Nobody knows of the situation, and only I went against it.”
He noticed there were two other women: Felisse, and Warren’s first wife. At a certain angle, he could only see Felisse.
            “Anna!”
Felisse moved to the side and Anna dropped to her knees, blood-wounded deep.
“So you called out her name first? I knew you loved her more.”
“I thought you were outside of Zozna?!”
            “What is that?”
“I-I see… Never mind. So this place is a replica...”
Face the antique of what you may fear most; destroy the light that calls from within; and the door shall open…
“Huh? What are you talking about?”
Felisse rolled her eyes as she fixed her glasses. “Ugh, honestly, I don’t know why you’re talking to yourself, but you have been a disgrace to us all. Going against the Gammel army’s plans are our number one law that you cannot break. Now, I shall break you.”
“I cannot fight you, Miss Felisse!”
“Are you being a coward again?”
Warren struggled to move, but he thought about how Forrest wanted him to stay strong for the rest of his life. “No, I am no coward. A wise man taught me that.”
“Oh? Then fight me.” Her yellow light appeared before her.
Warren hesitated, but he knew what he had to do. “Very well…” [End music]

Lastly, Lydia was in her bedroom. It was perfectly fine, and she knew she was in the City of Celestia before the attack. She picked up the blue stuffed animal that she loved most. [Music 52.1]
“Here you are, hehe. How did I even get here?”
Face the antique of what you may fear most; destroy the light that calls from within; and the door shall open…
Lydia dropped the teddy bear as she turned to every corner of the room. Quietly, she decided to open her bedroom door to the living room.
With a loud gasp, Lydia almost fell on her back. “No… way…”
Lydia’s biological mother was laughing. “Oh Lydia, you klutz. That’s just like you,” she said. She and her husband were sitting with each other on the couch. The both of them had a bright aura around them.
“Dinner’s almost ready,” her father said.
“I’ve missed you two so much!” Lydia began to cry. She ran to hug them.
“Oh? We’ve only seen each other since last night when you were going to bed. Did you have a nightmare?”
            “Did I?” Lydia asked herself.
“Let’s eat up!” the father said.
            “Where’s Magnus?!”
            “Who’s that?” Lydia’s mother asked.
            “The bad guy!”
“Oh don’t worry about that. If you stay here, you’ll never have to worry about any bad guys ever again.”
            “Never ever?”
Her parents nodded, and Lydia stood still for a moment to think about it.
            “I’ll be safe… forever…?” [End music]

~ Zozna – post-western trial ~

Felix was the first to appear at the end of the western trial now. He turned around to check if anybody came out yet, but there was nobody.
“They’re going to be just fine,” Felix smiled. “I’m sorry, father… but that was just a false glimpse of my imagination. It’s easy to realize that once you understand the more important task at hand here.”
There was a sound of slow clapping up ahead.
            “Clyde!” [Music 13.1]
Clyde was sitting atop a boulder with his legs crossed.
“There you are, Felix. I’ve been waiting for you. I’m infatuated by the fact that you survived two trials. You really have changed, haven’t you?” His voice was not of impression, but more of disgust.
            “Come with us!”
“Why should I do that? I’m working for Magnus now, and not even you can change that. He did tell me to send you a message, however.” Felix listened carefully to him. “He will not run away this time if he were to lose. He has high confidence that he will win, so this is the final straw. The end is near, Felix.”
Felix became impatient. “It doesn’t matter what he says. I’m not gonna let him escape either way.”
“Oh, so persistent. I like that about you, Felix. You just never stop sometimes. It even gets annoying sometimes.” He took out his rapier. “Do you think you have what it takes to defeat Magnus?”
Felix was ready to take out his crescent blade, but he paused for a moment. “I just want to talk, Clyde. You are being controlled by Magnus. You do know that, right?”
“Is that so? But I have all this power now. If anything, I’m only working for him and he’s offering the benefits.”
“The benefits only last until he’s gone. And as long as he’s alive, you’re just going to sink deeper into darkness.”
“What do you know? You have all these friends who trust you, and the only person to trust me is Magnus!” [End music]
“Do you really think that?! If you join us, all of my friends will welcome you with open arms. They’re the most supportive friends I’ve ever had, and I am thankful for that. I still believe you are one of us too.” [Music 64.1]
“Tch,” Clyde made a guilty expression. “Be quiet. I am not trustable at all. Now stop the chatter and fight me!” Clyde dashed quickly towards Felix and Felix had to deflect it with his crescent blade.
Even if Felix’s blade was much larger, Clyde’s rapier was able to push him back onto the ground.
“You’re screwing up, Felix! Did you ever change at all, or were you bluffing?”
Felix made his way back up. “This has nothing to do with strengths, Clyde! Just listen to me!”
Clyde gave another strike, and Felix only deflected again. In no time, Felix was getting exhausted. He decided to jump a few steps back and then he struck the air as swiftly as he could with his crescent blade. The wind ricochet towards Clyde, pushing him back against a boulder.
“Ergh…! Well done there – friend.”
Felix was surprised. He noticed a strange pause coming from Clyde right before he said ‘friend’.
“We are best friends, Clyde. Nothing is going to change that, not even after all this time you were gone.” He tried to give Clyde a soft kick to his shin but Clyde only guarded against him. “Don’t you want to see your parents again? They are home, waiting for you!”
            “Ergh!” Clyde pushed him back.
Felix was becoming persistent again. He tried to punch Clyde on the stomach. “Remember our friendship wall? It’s still there, and it will always be there. The village has been renovated, but I saved that abandoned house for you. I want you to come home and see it again!”
“I don’t want to see it, damn it!!” Clyde said, closing his eyes.
“You’ve taught me so much in the village all these years, and now it’s time I give my share. LET’S GO HOME!!!!” Felix gave a successful punch towards Clyde’s chin, but Clyde did the exact same thing.
The only difference was that Felix knocked him down with the back end of his crescent blade. Clyde fell to the floor.
“I… uck. You pinned me, heh,” Clyde said calmly. “Do it.”
            “Huh?”
“Kill me.” His voice finally softened. “Free me…from this madness… There is no way I can go back home anyway, not after all I’ve done to Rhadessia.” His voice was the exact same, sweet voice that Felix remembered. The last time he heard such a voice was back in Ouli Brye which was the very beginning.
            “I can’t do that!”
“Yes, you can.” Clyde used the rest of his dark energy to overpower Felix. His mind was able to fight against itself as he forcefully had Felix’s crescent blade close to his heart. It was slowly reaching his body, closer and closer.
“Stop it. You can’t make me do this!! STOP!”
“Farewell, Felix… Beat that Magnus bastard for me-“
A knife somehow flew past the crescent blade, knocking it far away from the two of them.
“What are you, an idiot?” Rina said, standing tall and proud.
            Clyde gasped. “I-It’s you!”
Leo yawned. “I remember when I saw you. I didn’t think you were a bad guy, but man, that Magnus bastard had you going.”
Hazel and Viola were also with them.
“And to think we had a moment of doubt when Felix wanted to talk his way into Clyde’s mind, heh.” Hazel began to chuckle.
“I didn’t think you had that much in you, villager,” Viola joked.
Warren raised his fists. “He is the strongest one of us, after all!”
Forrest gave two thumbs-up. “The true hero! Hehe!”
Felix was extremely happy to see all of them together. “You’re all here!” [End music]

Clyde - The Same as Usual...

Clyde sat up and the dark aura was completely gone, but his head began to hurt.
            “I feel… a bit weakened.”
Felix stood up. “It’s alright, we got this! You’re coming home with us, Clyde!”
Clyde’s eyes opened widely. “You still… accept me? Even after how much I’ve done and said to you? You’re the clear winner here, Felix. You should have killed me when you had the chance.”
Felix shook his head in disagreement. “No way! There’s no such thing as winning and losing. I didn’t win at all. I chose the light path and kept that hope of saving you.”
Clyde smiled, giving out a shriek of sadness as he cried. He repeatedly told the group what kind of person he had become, and wished he had a stronger heart. “But, but…! Felix, you taught me one very important thing. Even how much darkness has past, as long as I move forward into the light, that’s all that matters. Whatever I do onward from here on out, that’s the true me.”
Felix agreed. “Yes! That’s exactly what I wanted to say!”
Clyde laughed, and then he paused once he took a look at the group. “Felix… Didn’t you have a total of eight people in your group?”
The rest of the group stopped smiling. Rina and Felix abruptly turned to the portal.
“Lydia…” the two of them said together.
[Ending 5 music]
