Episode 50 - Within the Lumious Chapel

The Obsidian Tale

Episode 50
[Opening 4 music]

~ Lumious – central chapel ~

[Music 25.2] Viola was thrown against the chapel window, shattering it to pieces. Magnus was floating like before, but his aura emitted a golden color this time. He only moved his left arm swiftly and Forrest went flying towards the ledge of the sacred land of Lumious. Leo was about to position his fists but Magnus teleported towards him, grabbing him by the neck. Leo was in midair now, trying to squirm out of Magnus’ grip.
This all happened in a matter of seconds before Rina was unable to move as well. Clyde grabbed her from behind, placing his rapier in front of her neck.
“Don’t move now, or it will be off with your head.~”
Magnus snapped his fingers with his other hand and the beanstalk began making strange movements. They began breaking apart and its pathway was no longer present. It closed together like some kind of Venus flytrap. The group watched carefully as it reopened itself. Lady Pria appeared, fainted.
“If any of you make another move, this Avian will be killed!” Magnus threatened.
Rina clenched her teeth. “Lady Pria! The last magic…”
“Last magic, you say?” Magnus laughed. “I can feel the resonance of the Avian, the Obsidian, and the nature of this land.”
Besides Rina, everyone else was unable to speak. Forrest would only be yelling for help, Leo was clutched while Viola was almost out cold.
Rina said to both Clyde and Magnus, “If the Obsidian energy is rising, then you’re in for a surprise!” She watched as the Crescent airship came closer from the fog.
            “Am I?” Magnus asked cynically.
The airship came to a stop the moment it landed on the Lumious, but nothing was happening. No entrance opened nor did it move again. The entire ship turned off and Rina constantly waited, but nothing happened.
“What? What did you do?!” Rina said angrily.
From within the airship, Hazel was struck against several buttons nearby Warren. Warren and Lydia were the only two remain, watching Felix easily break through the ropes that Hazel had previously tied him in.
Felix watched the two of them who were slightly nervous.
“What?” Felix asked. His face was grim and he had a disturbed smile equipped. “You didn’t think those ropes would lock me up, did you?” He slowly turned to Hazel, “That old woman… always thinking she is the boss of us. Ageist, rude, and honestly with a lack of outer knowledge. Only to exist with her own experiences, like a fairytale trapped in a bottle of lies.” His voice was deeper than usual.
Lydia took a step forward. She was in front of Warren. “Felix, snap out of it, please. This is not like you at all!”
“Not like me? Aren’t you tired of seeing me being afraid of blood? Wasn’t I just slowing you all down, thinking I could save everyone?” Instead of a crescent blade, a bladed chakram appeared on both of his hands. “We don’t need some stupid airship named after a blade that did nothing but fear others.”
“Stop this at once, Sir Wolfram! You must be controlled by Magnus!” [End music]
“Is that a theory, or a suggestion?” Felix questioned him. [Music 50.1]
Lydia knelt down without any precautions this time. Warren was confused at what just happened to her, but like the Frolix Volcano, her Obsidian energy was reacting heavily with the sacred lands of Lumious.
From Rina’s point of view, she could see a light emitting from the control room of the airship – where Lydia was.
Magnus still had his right hand gripped onto Leo. “Oho, one little squeeze and you’d be gone.” The seventh magic essence began flowing within him. He was absorbing the energy as they spoke.
Rina clenched her fists. “Okay, you trapped all of us. What are you going to do now that you’ve ‘won’?”
“Now that I’ve gotten the boy,” He turned to the airship, indicating that Felix was his first target. “I can finally recruit the Obsidian and the other little one, hanging by the edge of the land.”
            “Why?!”
“Because those three, out of the eight of you, have the weakest hearts. I would have taken yours as well, but your heart has grown drastically throughout time.”
Rina looked away in shame. “And you want only those three because they are easy to persuade, thus adding to your group of controlled comrades. Even talking about this in front of Clyde does not phase him anymore. He was led into the darkness too far to realize how terrible of a person you are.”
            “Heh…”
“And what will you do with the rest of us?”
“What will I do? What will I do?? Dispose of you!” His hand gripped even tighter against Leo’s neck but he stopped after seeing another flash from his peripheral vision.
Hazel stood up after watching Felix fall to his knees. His hands were covering his face.
“Argh! What the hell did you just do to me?!”
Hazel aimed an odd piece of machinery in her hand, pointing it to Felix again. “I no longer exist with the limited knowledge that I had before. I finally opened my heart out to the newer form of life at the laboratory.” She clicked a button on the device. “As the device says in small little letters, I will call this the ‘flashlight’! Does it burn your eyes?”
Warren tried to hold Hazel up as she was limping. She had the flashlight hidden in her back pocket the entire time. Wait, what is a flashlight to them?
Hazel then ran past Felix and towards the exit to pick up the rest of the objects that she dropped on the way back. She grabbed a large speaker and began playing with the wires.
From outside, Magnus threw Leo onto the wall next to Viola. At the same time, Forrest was finally able to get back onto the land. Magnus turned to the airship. “What the hell was that?” He began heading towards the airship until a loud musical tune of Fur Elise played. I mean, it’s supposed to sooth your ears. But with that volume, I don’t think so. Everyone, including Clyde had to cover their ears. The rapier dropped at last!
Hazel quickly lowered the volume. “H-Hold on, I didn’t mean to make it that loud.”
            Magnus regained his consciousness again.
            “Don’t move,” Rina said.
From behind, Rina readied her hands while Forrest aimed his bazooka towards Magnus, remembering that Rina recently gave him an upgraded fire ammunition. As Felix was about to stand up, Warren heavily elbowed Felix’s stomach, causing him to faint.
            “My apologies… Sir Wolfram.”
Hazel ran outside of the airship as she made a huge gasp, looking at Lady Pria on the ground. Immediately, she snuck her way towards the Avian woman.
Magnus was facing Rina. “It looks like you tried to outplay me,” he claimed.
            “We did??” Forrest asked.
“Yes we did,” Rina lied. “We’re always one step ahead of you, Magnus!”
“You do realize that there is no stopping me, yes? I am immo-“
“Yeah, we already know about you. Save us the chitter chatter.” She began making a few hand motions, ready to use her lightning spell. “We’re not going to be one of those dumb good guys who will say ‘drop your weapons and we will drop ours’. Screw that.” She then said to Forrest, “Do it now. Don’t even regret!”
“Aye aye, captain!” Forrest pulled the trigger and a large amount of fire expelled from the cubed bazooka.
Magnus gave a lone smile and then he teleported up into the air. The flames accidentally hit the chapel instead and it exploded in a large ball of fire.
The entire floating land was no longer green. It was fading to brown and orange, just like the sacred Tree of Revision.
Magnus snapped his fingers. “Clyde, we are out of here.” He noticed that the airship was almost surrounded in flames while barely any of the main group could be seen from his view. “Looks like the people I was after, have fallen. There is no use for them anymore. We will finally unleash the tower, gyahahaha!!!” [End music]
Clyde nodded. “As you wish, master.” He teleported away with Magnus.
Hazel and Warren ran out to help take Viola and Leo back into the airship. Lydia was slightly feeling better due to the disappearance of natural energy from the Lumious. Felix and Lady Pria were still out cold.
Rina watched as Hazel and Warren carried those who were fainted. She began looking around. [Music 38.1]
“Forrest, where the hell are you?!” She started to cast a large amount of water magic against the flames around her, hoping that Forrest was nearby. At the same time, the large chapel was collapsing the same direction as where Forrest last stood. With a gasp, Rina quickly ran towards the corner of the chapel while casting more water magic around her.
Finally, she was able to find him. He was under a pile of rubble, fainted. Rina used her ground magic to move the rubble away, but she was getting exhausted herself. She barely had enough energy to hold him on her back.
“Heh, little one, you did well,” she said with a smile as she headed towards the airship, using her last amount of energy to disperse the flames along the way. “The things I do… for the people I try to hate,” she said while holding onto Forrest.

~ Lumious – above and beyond  ~

The Crescent airship was steered directly above the Lumious now. Rina had already made sure most of the flames dispersed, but only a few resided, hopefully without spreading. Viola and Leo were awake, but they could barely move. Lydia also came to her senses. Felix, Forrest, and Lady Pria were still out cold.
Lydia held onto Rina’s arms. “Are you okay, Rina?”
“Yeah… I’m fine. I just used a lot of magic again.”
“It looks like everyone made it back safely,” Hazel said.
Lydia turned to her, “Hazel… listen. About Felix… I don’t think he meant what he said to you.”
            Hazel said nothing.
“He’s wrong, and you know that. He was just being controlled by Magnus.”
Hazel shook her head. “If he really disagreed with what he said, then he would have had enough willpower to go against such speech. If you’re strong enough, you would be able to overcome any type of control.”
            Lydia was stumped.
“He is right, however. I only base my strengths on current knowledge. I still need to learn more about the world no matter how much I have been through. I don’t want to repeat what was said to me before…”
Lydia realized that Hazel must have become some sort of worldly historian for the fact that another person from her past insulted her lack of knowledge. Now, she is trying to regain her glory by learning about Rhadessia’s history.
“Who told you such things in the past?” Leo asked her. He was barely able to speak, but he could nonetheless.
As Lady Pria was wakening, Hazel turned to her. “Pria.”
Rina gasped. “What? You know her?”
“Who knew that the legendary Avian taught Rina all the magic she could learn this entire time,” Hazel chuckled.
Warren turned away. “She who shall not be named… forced upon us.”
Rina tried to stand up. “You mean she journeyed with you all this time as your sixth companion?!” She knelt down from sudden pain.

How We've All Changed

Fear of Death

Lady Pria examined all of them before speaking. “What happened to me? Where’s the energy that I sensed before? It’s gone!” She suddenly yelped. “Hazel, Warren?! What’s going on here?” [End music]
After the group explained the incident to her, she gave a huge sigh.
“I see. So Magnus talked about some kind of tower? Rina, I must teach you the final and seventh magic in order to counter his strengths. Once you are on par against him, there is a chance of stopping him.”
Rina nodded. “Okay. There should be a large, empty room in the Crescent as a training facility.” [Music 11.2]
Lydia became worried. “But, will we make it in time to reach the tower to stop him?”
Hazel rejoined the conversation. “World domination doesn’t just happen in a second. Even if we are too late for the startup, we can at least stop it from finishing. Now, I would assume he needs a place that once contained a large amount of Obsidian energy. He will revive whatever reacts with forged Obsidian energy, not natural Obsidian energy within Lydia.”
“In other words, chemicals,” Warren concluded.
“That takes Celestia out of the picture,” Rina claimed. “The home of the ‘Obsidians’ is filled with natural energy. What would be a place that contains a large amount of messed up Obsidian energy?”
Lydia jumped. “How about the Sheywood and Li’Opa Jungle? Didn’t we cross some ferocious monsters there?”
“Or worse yet,” Leo said to them, “the Mago’Ria Fey.”
Hazel agreed with him. “I knew that cavernous graveyard was too easy to cross. It felt as if something dangerous was hidden below it. With Professor Igor in his possession, who knows what kind of chemical Obsidian energy he can cook up with the seven magical essences?”
Rina opened the door towards the hallway. “Come on, Lady Pria. We have to hurry and learn the last magic while they take us to the tower!”
As they left the room, Warren began to steer the airship. Hazel was also about to step out.
“Where are you going?” Lydia asked her.
“I’m never going to let that Magnus mess with our tactics again. I will try my best to be one step ahead of him this time.” She pointed at the ceiling, “I will be outside on the deck. Once Warren heads closer to the Mago’Ria Fey, there is a high chance that Magnus will try to strike us. That is my cue to help counter attack.”
Viola stood up. “Allow me to help.”
            “Same here,” Leo followed.
“You’re just doing this to be with Viola, right Leo?” Lydia giggled.
            Leo screeched. “Eh?!?!!?”
            “I’m just kidding, hehe!”
Felix slowly opened his eyes and his fingers twitched. He tried to see what was in front of him. “Ly…dia?”
Hazel watched him, but she decided to leave the room first. Instead of trying to stop him, she trusted that he was fine this time. It was helpful to know that Magnus probably thinks the entire group has been wiped out by the fire, so Felix would be safe from control until they meet again. Both Viola and Leo followed her. [End music]
“What happened to me?” [Music 1.4]
Lydia held onto him tightly. “Felix, oh it’s really you!! I’ve missed you so much.” She began to cry.
Felix blushed. “Wha…? I-I don’t understand! How long have I been out?”
“You were being controlled by Magnus, and said some pretty awful things,” Warren answered.
“Really? Ergh…” He felt a headache coming.
Lydia fixed his bangs which were all shagged from his mood shift. “You will be okay now. I think Magnus won’t be controlling you this time. He thinks you’re dead.”
“He believes we are all dead, according to what Rina heard him say before escaping,” Warren said while steering.
Magnus snapped his fingers. “Clyde, we are out of here.” He noticed that the airship was almost surrounded in flames while barely any of the main group could be seen from his view. “Looks like the people I was after, have fallen. There is no use for them anymore. We will finally unleash the tower, gyahahaha!!!”
“Where is Magnus and Clyde??” Forrest asked, finally waking up from his sleep. His face was charred in black from the smoke.
“Clyde was there?!” Felix shouted. “What happened to him? We needed to talk!”
Lydia frowned. “The two of them successfully escaped after gathering up the seventh essence of magic. This is why we need to find that tower.”
Warren squinted his eyes and looked up ahead. “Even through the fog, I would expect to see some sort of tower, but there is nothing beyond the Village of Saradeli.” [End music]
The ship suddenly shook as if it had hit a giant boulder. Forrest rolled towards both Lydia and Felix.
Warren checked the radar to his right. “This strange device is telling me that a few dots are coming this way!” [Music 50.2]
Lydia was shocked. “That means we are being under attack! But Hazel and the others…!”

Bow Down to Hero Winter

Out on the deck, Leo punched a few parasites that grew large from chemical Obsidian energy. Before a few from behind could try to stab him, Leo spun and kicked at the same time, similar to a spinning top.
Viola took the other end, slicing every other parasite away with her spear. She was quick enough to eventually float in the air, constantly fighting her way through each and every one of them without pause.
Finally, Hazel was in the center. She stood still, focusing on each of her attacks. She took about five arrows at once, hoping that she could volley against all of the parasites coming from the outer sky.
“This will be a long fight, everyone! I don’t know whether Magnus realizes that we are alive after all, but Professor Igor is responsible for all of these summons!”

In the steering room, Warren tried to turn the wheel to the right as quickly as possible. Another missile struck the butt end of the ship, causing it to slant downward. The other three young teenagers rolled to the other side of the room.
“Waah! Warren, can’t you do something about this?!” Forrest yelped. He couldn’t move himself, but at least the airship could help him with that.
“My apologies!” He took sight of what was outside. “There seems to be both parasitical missiles and live monsters attaching themselves against the ship.”
Lydia reached for her morning star. “I have to help Hazel! There’s too much of them for three people to handle.”
Felix took out his Crescent blade. “I should help too! I don’t care if they’re bloodthirsty monsters that can instantly kill us in one hit. I’m not going to let that thought get in my way of helping.”
Lydia nodded. “That’s the Felix we all know, hehe!”
Forrest frowned, knowing he was unable to help this time due to his inability to move. Warren warned the two teenagers to stay put, but he was too busy steering the wheel as both Lydia and Felix left.
The airship was struck with another parasite missile again and Forrest rolled towards Warren.
            “Help me, aye!” Forrest yelped.

Meanwhile, Rina jumped back. She avoided Lady Pria’s swift movements.
“Your seventh magic is physical speed?!”
“Not exactly. This is my own kind of magic that will help you smooth your way through battles even if it means lowering physical strength and raising magic strength.”
Rina tried to cast a fire missile at her, but Pria barely moved like a leaf as she avoided the missile. Pria casted ice on the missile before it hit the outer walls. Before Rina could make another move, the ship shook again.
Rina clenched her teeth. “Okay, that’s starting to piss me off. It’s getting in the way of my training!”
Lady Pria giggled. “Oh, with this seventh, holy magic, a simple space shaking wouldn’t do anything to you.”
“So the seventh magic is what you call, holy?”
“Yes. Now, let’s hurry this up or it will be a long ride for you and your friends!” [End music]

Warren geared the ship eastward even further. He grabbed onto the walkie-talkie as she sent signals to each room. [Music 26.3]
“Everyone, the engine is not working properly!”
From the deck, Lydia and Felix appeared. Hazel turned around, looking for the speakers attached to the ship. “Where is that voice coming from?”
“It’s called technology,” Leo joked at a time like this.
“Warren, can you hear us?! What is happening?!” Hazel called out mindlessly, not knowing exactly where to yell.
Warren responded to her, “Loud and clear! I will have to put this ship on float mode if we get struck down! How is it outside?!”
Lydia began whacking as many parasites with her flail while Felix slashed away the remaining monsters nearby with his Crescent blade.
“Things are fine, but it will not last much longer if the monsters keep coming like this!”
A missile was flying towards her while she was distracted, but Leo managed to punch it away with his brass knuckles. Another came flying off to the side, and Viola slashed along the airwaves above her. The wave cut through the missile, exploding itself in midair.
The alarms were set in the piloting room. Warren clenched his teeth. “A few more missiles and this ship will forcefully go down!”
Hazel nodded. “We will stop all the missiles as best as we can! Keep pushing forward past the Village of Saradeli if you can!”
Three more missiles came. Lydia was pushed by a parasite. It crawled on top of her, trying to stab her, but she constantly struggled her way out of it. Felix made his way towards them, slashing the monster away and grabbing Lydia’s hand to get up.
Five more missiles came by this time with more monsters. There was too many at this point!
With surprise, Leo tried to take a few steps back, tripping in the process. “No…!” As he closed his eyes, the missiles turned into ice and it flew away with a large gust of wind.
Rina was slightly floating in midair with her wings, a bit more grown this time.
            “You ready, Lady Pria?!”
Pria was floating right above her. “Why have one Avian take the glory? I totally have the rest,” she said with a smirk. The both of them swiftly moved between parasite to parasite, destroying as many of them around the ship.
Meanwhile, the Crescent airship was still on its way to plunging into the waters east of the village.
Warren pulled onto a stick shift, hoping that it would at least save some grace.
“We’re going to crash right near the Lake City Prima!!!” Warren yelled to each room of the airship.
The people from the Lake City Prima watched as a large airship flew at an extremely high speed towards the ocean below them. The ship had fallen into the water, creating an enormous geyser, almost splashing and destroying parts of the city. Even from all this, the airship was nowhere to be found except below water level… [End music]
[Ending 4 music]

Episode 49 - Lost Technology

The Obsidian Tale

Episode 49
[Opening 4 music]

~ Merridian Laboratory – western sector ~

“What is the meaning of this?” Warren asked. [Music 34.1]
The group of eight were in a bind. Hazel was facing Felix, now ready to take out her bow and arrows while Felix was on the ground, shaking. He seemed unable to control his will to speak about what he wanted to say.
She pointed her bow towards Felix. Lydia tried to nudge her but she was only pushed aside.
“Hazel, please don’t do this. He’s not threatening us.”
“If he does not speak, then he is no more than an enemy to me. This is not the Felix that we know.”
A gust of wind slapped the bow away from Hazel’s hands.
Rina closed her hands after she finished casting a spare amount of wind energy. “Seriously, you're going to resort to violence just so he could speak up? You, out of anyone of us, should know that.”
            Hazel sighed. “You… don’t understand.”
Forrest wanted to cry. He was hiding behind Leo for comfort, and Viola was motionless as usual. She just let the conversation fly wherever it went.
Hazel turned away. “Do not come back to me if he ever gets away with betrayal. We should plan our next tactic. On the upside, at least he won’t be telling Magnus about our plans, so as long as we keep him within our sights.”
Felix stood up. “H-Hold on. I don’t want to be some kind of untrusted group member.”
Forrest agreed with him. “Yeah! He was the leader before, right?”
“We don’t have a leader. We are all working together to stop Magnus,” Hazel exclaimed. Now, I think it would be best to keep both Felix and Lydia away from the sacred floating land of Lumious until the rest of us give the signal.”
            Lydia gasped. “Why me?”
Leo answered for her, “Felix is understandable, as we are trying to keep his distance away from Magnus, assuming he is waiting for us there. As for Lydia, her mere presence might activate any natural habitats that require Obsidian energy just like the Frolix Volcano. That would be in favor for him.”
“Likewise, we may need to leave Felix and Lydia at the Crescent airship until we give the signal. Like already mentioned, Magnus wanted to leave the ship intact so we could get to Lumious the easy route. At this point, I don’t think Magnus would guess that we would be taking the long, dangerous route.”
“So, we should pick our teams,” Warren suggested. “I have to stay with Felix and Lydia if I want to steer the airship.”
Rina raised her hand. “I would have to learn the final magic element as soon as possible, so being the first group there would come in handy. Therefore, I’m taking the walking route through the Boris San Jovi cavern despite how dangerous it could be inside.”
Viola took out her spear. “In case there are enemies in the cavern and when we reach Lumious, I guess you could use some combat support.” [End music]
Hazel patted Forrest on the head. “I suggest we need at least one tactician in each group which means either me or Leo should go. If we want an even group of four, that leaves Forrest to join Rina and Viola.” [Music 36.1]
Forrest turned to his pretended older brother, Felix, friendly sister, Lydia, and fatherly Warren. “Aww… but I wanna stay with them!”
Leo knelt down in front of him. “I will go with you then, Forrest.”
Forrest became happy. “Oh yeah? Yippee!!”
Hazel turned red. “And why not me?”
Leo whispered to Forrest, “It’s not rare that children are more afraid of motherly figures than brotherly figures.”
“Really? Oh, that’s why,” Forrest said nonchalantly.
Hazel punched both of their heads. Bruises appeared.
As the group separated on each side, Warren said while waving, “Rina, may I ask if you cast some kind of signal using any magic element? That will be our cue to fly in.”
Rina nodded. “That sounds fine. We could also have Forrest shoot a beam of fire into the sky if necessary. Once we trap Magnus, you four will follow in afterwards and Magnus would have no chance in taking advantage of Lydia’s Obsidian energy.”
Viola went ahead first. Warren began walking back to the airship on the other side of the laboratory. Hazel lastly warned them that the labyrinth could change its paths at any point, so her experience with the Boris San Jovi from twenty years ago would be useless information. Finally, they all split apart.

~ Boris San Jovi – eastern pathway ~

Rina, Forrest, Leo, and Viola headed into the cavernous labyrinth of the Boris San Jovi. This large portion in the map connects west near the Terrain Valley and Ouli Brye. South of the cavern led to Lumious.
In front of them were pitch-black caves that looked like the inside of a beehive.
“Gee… I’d hate to be the people who got lost in here… Is that what a labranth does to you??”
            “Labyrinth,” Rina corrected him.
Viola stabbed her lance against the ground right in front of Forrest. “Does this cavern… scare you?”
“EEEH!” Forrest hid behind Leo’s coat, almost crying.
Viola giggled. “Aw, you’re such an adorable child.”
Rina turned around, “Hey, we shouldn’t fool around. Scaring the kid will just make it worse.”
Forrest stomped with both of his feet. “I-I’m not scared!” A few bats roamed out of one cavern hole and Forrest knelt down, hiding under Leo’s coat.
Rina casted a wind aura around them and the bats scurried off.
“See? With my magic, we’re good.”
Leo snapped his fingers. “Good until you’re out of energy.”
“Well, we’re just gonna have to use it sparingly if the labyrinth is going to get us lost.” [End music]

~ Merridian Laboratory – northeastern sector – The Crescent ~

[Music 14.2] Hazel was last to enter the Crescent airship after Warren, Lydia, and Felix. Hazel quickly knocked Felix down with an unsuspected surprise kick, then she tied him against one of the rails with a straw rope, the same you would see in a game of tug-of-war.
“What the hell was that for?!” Felix shouted.
Lydia had her hands over her mouth. “H-Hazel, what are you doing?”
“This is to ensure he will not create a sneak attack by Magnus’ orders.”
“What, by dehumanizing me?” Felix argued, clenching his teeth.
“Do understand that this is the only option until we get rid of his control over you. You will have to be patient, Felix.”
Warren said nothing of the matter. Lydia seemed really worried for him. She wanted to take the ropes off, but she knew Hazel was eying her as well.
Felix placed his head down in his own disappointment. “Ergh…”
Hazel seemed to be a little aggressive lately, but she only did it for the better good. Even she felt uneasy about how she has been acting, but she wanted to make sure everyone was safe in the best possible way.

~ Boris San Jovi – ??? ~

“I could have sworn we went through this chilly spot like three times,” Rina claimed.
The group of four reached a small spring. Sure, the room was pitch-black, but the small spring was lighted by an opening from up above.
“Yes, this spring does quite resemble some similarities to the first time we went through here. I remember we went north each time we passed this,” Viola spoke calmly.
“Should we head… west?” Rina suggested.
“Better than north,” Viola said in a joking manner.
Forrest knelt down to grab some water into his hands. “We were in here for like what, over an hour??” [End music]
Leo grabbed Forrest’s arms before he touched any of the water. “Don’t! It could be dangerous. If you need water, have Rina give you some.” [Music 6.1]
Forrest frowned. “That doesn’t sound very tasty…” Rina was screeching in annoyance in the background.
Viola examined the water closely. “Maybe Boris San Jovi is the place filled with traps that I’ve been hearing about.”
Rina headed for the spring nearby. “What, and you tell us this now?”
Forrest pointed at Viola with anger, “You just want me to die!”
“Why would I want you to die a death like this? If I wanted you dead, I would have killed you a long time ago. Blood and guts would seem more entertaining, don’t you agree?”
Forrest made the loudest scream he has ever made and Leo forcefully covered his mouth. With a sudden silence, you could hear rocks falling from the ceiling.
Rina had her arms crossed. “Didn’t I tell you to stop scaring him?” She then elbowed Viola with a smirk on her face, “Although I’m with you on killing him, heh.” She suddenly shook her head away from all of the jokes. “Oh but seriously, we need to keep moving. Let’s head west because this cavern doesn’t feel very stable.”
They all headed into a dark and narrow path down the western cavern from the spring. Forrest and Leo were busy talking about heroic myths to help keep their minds off of the labyrinth while Rina was curious to ask Viola some questions.
“So… what else do you know about this labyrinth?”
“Well, I’ve heard you could get lost in here.”
            “Been there.”
“And you could fall for traps like poisonous water.”
            “Done that.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the large amount of traps in the straightest paths you could find.”
“What?” Rina suddenly looked straight ahead. No wonder the path was so narrow and straight-forward. There was a price to pay for this.
The fifteen-foot pathway began closing in on them slowly. Fourteen… thirteen…
“Waaaah, what is this?!?!” Forrest squealed. Leo threw Forrest onto his back as he began running.
Rina and Viola followed along. Luckily, the walls were slow so they easily made it through. The next straight path had a bunch of interesting totem poles to the side. Their mouths were open but the eyes were as brown as stone.
Forrest jumped up several times in front of one of them to examine the eyes. “Wow! This looks cool.”
Rina grabbed onto Forrest’s collar, “Stay away from those! Seriously, you’re making me sound like Hazel and it disgusts me.”
Forrest laughed. “What, are these things going to magically wake up and try to kill us? Hehe!”
“Come to think of it, the Merridian Laboratory is right next to this labyrinth. I wouldn’t be surprised to see such high-tech devices being trashed down here,” Viola said without any sign of worry.
Leo was walking ahead and he accidentally tripped on a rock. The first totem pole from behind had eyes lit. The mouth suddenly spewed endless flames.
Forrest and Leo hugged each other in fear. Rina was about to cast her wind magic to protect them, but she realized that fire could easily strike through wind and destroy it. Instead, she called for them to run away as the second and third poles were lit. [End music]

Traps, Traps, and More Traps!

~ Merridian Laboratory – northeastern sector – The Crescent ~

Hazel stepped out of the doorway from the Crescent. She turned around. “I’m going to examine the laboratory a little bit more. I need to know what kind of technology will work to our advantage.” [Music 16.2]
“Wouldn’t they be worn out after a thousand years?” Lydia asked her.
“It would appear so, but there is also a chance that I can reactivate some if I knew how. There are things that the Rhadessian civilization use from several thousands of years ago, so why not something like these?”
            Lydia giggled. “Eheh… that’s a good point, I guess.”

Finally Some Peace and Quiet

Warren continued to read the manual for the airship. “You come back safely. If Rina sends a signal, come rush back to us.”
Hazel nodded and gave him an expression indicating that if Felix did anything suspicious, Warren would have to take care of the issue. Warren nodded as Hazel exited the Crescent airship.
Lydia sat down nearby Warren. “So Warren, once this is all over, are you going to become a Gammel soldier again?”
Warren only chuckled. “Ah, that would be nice. Actually, I would prefer that the Gammel army would disassemble and become a different kind of army – an army that unifies both Lennox and Winstel to protect Rhadessia in harmonization.”
“That sounds like a good idea!”
“But what I would really want to do is work as a bartender.”
            “Really? That’s kind of random.”
“Maybe so, but I could never express myself outside of the Gammel military because we had to focus on saving ‘this’, saving ‘that’. Even after being expelled, I had no time to think about what I really wanted to do in life due to the fact that I had been miserable, and now we are too focused on trying to stop Master Magnus.” Lydia became silent. She knew he was right anyway. “What about you?”
            “Huh?”
Warren turned to her. “What do you plan on doing after all of this?”
“Umm… I never really thought about it either. I don’t have a home anymore, and my adoptive mother will now live in peace at the Village of Saradeli.” She said to Felix, “Oh! You think I could live with the rest of them at the village and help reform it?!”
Despite being tied up, he tried his best to smile. “That sounds like a nice idea.”
“You don’t seem that excited,” Lydia sounded disappointed.
“No, I am happy. It’s just hard to smile a little.”
“Are you still bothered by Hazel?”
“Maybe a tiny bit… It’s just, I’m trying so hard to control what to do and what not to do. Sometimes I feel like I can control it, but no one trusts me.”
Lydia walked closer to him. “I trust you, Felix.”
            Felix blushed. “You do?”
“Of course! We all went through so much and we did fine in the end, right?”
He turned away. “But people like Faris…”
Lydia patted his shoulder and then she gave him a pinky. “There will be no more deaths then. How about that? Promise?”
            Felix was silent.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to pinky promise. I can tell your mind promises me that. Hehe. Once we stop Magnus, you’ll surely be back to normal!” [End music]
Felix agreed with her. “Yeah, maybe you’re right.” He turned away, thinking to himself. “I don’t know about that promise…”

~ Boris San Jovi – ??? ~

“Who keeps pressing the switches?!” Rina shouted as the group of four hysterically ran left to right, avoiding arrows, pikes, needles, and flames. Some of the ground below rose up and they have to make sure they ran away from portions of the cave before they were vertically smashed.
They eventually reached a safe exit, but in front of them was just an abyssal bottom with a long, tightrope hanging from one end to the other. The ground behind them was pushed upward and the only thing they could do was move on ahead, if there was a way. The cavern behind them was completely closed off. [Music 49.1]
Forrest still wanted to cry. He was almost nearly dead from all of the traps. You might think it was quick and short, but they were at it for several minutes, almost up to another hour. The worst part of all was right in front of them. They had to climb on the ropes like what you would generally see on the monkey bars at a children’s jungle gym. This abyss was as wide as generic large bedroom.
“You first,” Rina pushed Leo ahead.
            “Wh-What?! Why me?”
Rina shrugged. “Um, I don’t know. Show Viola how manly you are or something.”
“Works for me,” Leo said quickly as he went first.
Rina was next after seeing that the ropes were safe to grab.
Forrest was shaking. “I-I-I don’t know if I want to do this…”
Viola crouched down. “Why not?” She had an evil look on her face while holding her spear.
Forrest jumped onto the ropes. “EEEGH!”
The moment Viola climbed the ropes after Forrest, the wall that was previously pushed upward, was now moving inward on them.
            “What?!” Leo looked back.
Rina kicked him. “Just keep going!!”
“H-Hey, don’t kick me!” They began rushing forward. “And why didn’t you use your magic to manipulate the ground or something?!”
“It went up by force, and I didn’t even have time to cast magic. If you were a magic user, you would know that!”
The walls were moving in closer now. Leo finally made it to the top, followed by Rina. The wall began crackling and it leaned against the ropes.
Forrest cried. “No!! It’s going to rip apart!”
Rina casted an ice block on the most bent portion of the ropes but even that was breaking. As soon as Forrest was about to grab onto Leo’s hand, the rope broke in half and Forrest slid off the rope.
            “No!!!” Leo shouted.
            “I-I’m okay…” Forrest grabbed onto Viola’s legs.
Viola coughed. “You are quite lucky that you are light.”
“Whatever, just grab our hands!” Rina commanded.
“I can’t hold on much longer!” Forrest yelled.
Leo offered both hands for Viola while Rina had to stand back and focus. Once Viola grabbed Leo’s hands, Forrest slid off her legs. In that very moment, the wall right below Leo pushed forward and Forrest fell onto it.
Rina knelt down, almost exhausted. “That wasted a lot of energy…”
Forrest made his way to the top ledge, holding onto Leo.
Viola grinned. “That would be expected. These walls would require a lot of energy to move if they were pre-formed by technologists.”
Leo patted Rina on the head. “You okay?”
“Yeah, whatever. Just don’t be so slow next time,” she pouted.
Up ahead was light this time! They could finally see the exit. About time. Viola was first to exit. The light was too bright for the other three at first.
“Oh my, it looks like we are at the Terrain Valley path.”
“Wha?!” The other three yelled at the same time. They all ran out together.
Viola chuckled. “Just kidding. We are here, right below Lumious.”
Rina gave a huge sigh. “Really? Joking right now?” [End music]
Viola said nothing in return. In front of them was an extremely large tree, or more like a beanstalk that led up to a large chapel above. They could just run in an upward spiral along the beanstalk which was a pretty amazing sight. Imagine an escalator, only you get to go up several floors above.
Midway, they began wondering when the best time to send a signal was, but they still needed to find Magnus first.

~ Merridian Laboratory – central sector ~

[Music 47.3] Hazel grabbed onto one of the cellphones in the pile of rubber in front of her. She examined the buttons and wondered why each number had about three to four letters on them. “If I were to press something, would it appear on the screen?”
The moment she pressed the number ‘5’, nothing happened. The battery was out, but clearly she did not realize that. She turned the phone around. “A secret compartment!” She said to herself. “This must be an ancient secret from the past.” She removed the battery cover, noticing a large battery within it. “And this is some kind of alien device that tells the phone what to do! Marvelous!”
She began thrashing within the pile to find more devices such as a DVD set and some speakers. Wires were scattered everywhere, and she decided to put the white, yellow, and red chords onto a television set. “One wire goes in here…” She put each plug in any possible outlet like a puzzle without realizing what she was getting herself into.
The closest utility pole began to electrify and the television set finally turned on. It only blinked, indicating that the entire city was out of electricity.
“What was that thunder shock just now?” she asked herself. “And this screen box thing turned on for a blink second but it died. Did I do something wrong?” She began to poke the television set. “Maybe it can talk.”
Before she could speak, she noticed something behind the television set. [End music]

~ Lumious – central chapel ~

Rina’s group arrived right below the grounds where the chapel sat. They were right above the beanstalk and ready to rise into the holy land of Lumious. It kind of reminded them of the floating city of Lament, only with zero civilization. [Music 39.1]
Leo whispered to them. “Lumious must have been empty for quite some time due to the lack of Obsidian energy in this world. I don’t see anyone.”
Rina went first. “Follow me. We’re going to sneak behind box-to-box. Meet me at the windows of the chapel. Avoid going in because it could be a trap.”
As Rina arrived at the window, the angle only let her see one person: Clyde. The rest of the group rummaged behind her. All they could hear was a faint conversation. They saw Clyde facing someone, but they couldn’t even see who was in front of him.
“Yes, Master Magnus. You can leave it to me. I will take care of them.”
“Magnu-?!” Forrest shouted but his mouth was quickly covered by Leo. “Mmmph mmm mph!!?!” He was moaning, almost sounding as if he was asking for Bailey.
“Be quiet!” Rina said to him. “Look, I can use my magic to trap both of them in and then we can question them. She catalyzed a stronger amount of fire power that she gained at the Frolix Volcano, into Forrest’s bazooka. “Shoot into the air when I say so. I will be busy casting my magic aura around the chapel. Got it?”
            Forrest shivered. “O-Okay.”
After a few seconds, Rina was ready to release her magic after setting a field of energy around the chapel. Forrest shot into the air after Rina gave him the heads-up. The moment he did so, Viola gasped.
She was still looking into the chapel. Magnus was transparent and Viola could see him vanish as Clyde was left alone. “A hologram?!” she shouted.
After the large explosion dispersed from the sky, the group heard a familiar voice. “That is correct.”
Magnus stood without his holographic form right outside the chapel!
Leo clenched his teeth. “It was a trap!!”

~ Merridian Laboratory – northeastern sector – The Crescent ~

Lydia was looking outside the airship, noticing the large explosion.
Warren grabbed onto the steering wheel. “That must be the signal!”
“Hazel!” Lydia pointed out the window. “She’s coming back right now. Let’s start flying the ship as soon as possible!” [End music]
The ship began to fly and Hazel was barely able to climb on the edge of the walkway.
Felix was facing the floor still. His hair covered his face, but he was surely making a demonic grin.
