The Obsidian Tale
[Music 25.2] Viola was thrown against the chapel
window, shattering it to pieces. Magnus was floating like before, but his aura
emitted a golden color this time. He only moved his left arm swiftly and
Forrest went flying towards the ledge of the sacred land of Lumious. Leo was
about to position his fists but Magnus teleported towards him, grabbing him by
the neck. Leo was in midair now, trying to squirm out of Magnus’ grip.
This all happened in a matter of
seconds before Rina was unable to move as well. Clyde grabbed her from behind,
placing his rapier in front of her neck.
Magnus snapped his fingers with his
other hand and the beanstalk began making strange movements. They began
breaking apart and its pathway was no longer present. It closed together like
some kind of Venus flytrap. The group watched carefully as it reopened itself.
Lady Pria appeared, fainted.
“If any of you make another move,
this Avian will be killed!” Magnus threatened.
Rina clenched her teeth. “Lady Pria!
The last magic…”
“Last magic, you say?” Magnus
laughed. “I can feel the resonance of the Avian, the Obsidian, and the nature
of this land.”
Besides Rina, everyone else was
unable to speak. Forrest would only be yelling for help, Leo was clutched while
Viola was almost out cold.
Rina said to both Clyde and Magnus,
“If the Obsidian energy is rising, then you’re in for a surprise!” She watched
as the Crescent airship came closer from the fog.
“Am I?” Magnus asked cynically.
The airship came to a stop the
moment it landed on the Lumious, but nothing was happening. No entrance opened
nor did it move again. The entire ship turned off and Rina constantly waited,
but nothing happened.
“What? What did you do?!” Rina said
angrily.
From within the airship, Hazel was
struck against several buttons nearby Warren. Warren and Lydia were the only
two remain, watching Felix easily break through the ropes that Hazel had
previously tied him in.
Felix watched the two of them who
were slightly nervous.
“What?” Felix asked. His face was
grim and he had a disturbed smile equipped. “You didn’t think those ropes would
lock me up, did you?” He slowly turned to Hazel, “That old woman… always
thinking she is the boss of us. Ageist, rude, and honestly with a lack of outer
knowledge. Only to exist with her own experiences, like a fairytale trapped in
a bottle of lies.” His voice was deeper than usual.
Lydia took a step forward. She was
in front of Warren. “Felix, snap out of it, please. This is not like you at
all!”
“Not like me? Aren’t you tired of
seeing me being afraid of blood? Wasn’t I just slowing you all down, thinking I
could save everyone?” Instead of a crescent blade, a bladed chakram appeared on
both of his hands. “We don’t need some stupid airship named after a blade that
did nothing but fear others.”
“Stop this at once, Sir Wolfram! You
must be controlled by Magnus!” [End music]
“Is that a theory, or a suggestion?”
Felix questioned him. [Music 50.1]
Lydia knelt down without any
precautions this time. Warren was confused at what just happened to her, but
like the Frolix Volcano, her Obsidian energy was reacting heavily with the
sacred lands of Lumious.
From Rina’s point of view, she could
see a light emitting from the control room of the airship – where Lydia was.
Magnus still had his right hand
gripped onto Leo. “Oho, one little squeeze and you’d be gone.” The seventh
magic essence began flowing within him. He was absorbing the energy as they
spoke.
Rina clenched her fists. “Okay, you
trapped all of us. What are you going to do now that you’ve ‘won’?”
“Now that I’ve gotten the boy,” He
turned to the airship, indicating that Felix was his first target. “I can
finally recruit the Obsidian and the other little one, hanging by the edge of
the land.”
“Why?!”
“Because those three, out of the
eight of you, have the weakest hearts. I would have taken yours as well, but
your heart has grown drastically throughout time.”
Rina looked away in shame. “And you want
only those three because they are easy to persuade, thus adding to your group
of controlled comrades. Even talking about this in front of Clyde does not
phase him anymore. He was led into the darkness too far to realize how terrible
of a person you are.”
“Heh…”
“And what will you do with the rest
of us?”
“What will I do? What will I do?? Dispose of you!” His
hand gripped even tighter against Leo’s neck but he stopped after seeing
another flash from his peripheral vision.
Hazel stood up after watching Felix
fall to his knees. His hands were covering his face.
“Argh! What the hell did you just do
to me?!”
Hazel aimed an odd piece of
machinery in her hand, pointing it to Felix again. “I no longer exist with the
limited knowledge that I had before. I finally opened my heart out to the newer
form of life at the laboratory.” She clicked a button on the device. “As the
device says in small little letters, I will call this the ‘flashlight’! Does it
burn your eyes?”
Warren tried to hold Hazel up as she
was limping. She had the flashlight hidden in her back pocket the entire time.
Wait, what is a flashlight to them?
Hazel then ran past Felix and
towards the exit to pick up the rest of the objects that she dropped on the way
back. She grabbed a large speaker and began playing with the wires.
From outside, Magnus threw Leo onto
the wall next to Viola. At the same time, Forrest was finally able to get back
onto the land. Magnus turned to the airship. “What the hell was that?” He began
heading towards the airship until a loud musical tune of Fur Elise played. I mean, it’s supposed to sooth your
ears. But with that volume, I don’t think so. Everyone, including Clyde had to
cover their ears. The rapier dropped at last!
Hazel quickly lowered the volume.
“H-Hold on, I didn’t mean to make it that
loud.”
Magnus regained his consciousness
again.
“Don’t move,” Rina said.
From behind, Rina readied her hands
while Forrest aimed his bazooka towards Magnus, remembering that Rina recently
gave him an upgraded fire ammunition. As Felix was about to stand up, Warren
heavily elbowed Felix’s stomach, causing him to faint.
“My apologies… Sir Wolfram.”
Hazel ran outside of the airship as
she made a huge gasp, looking at Lady Pria on the ground. Immediately, she
snuck her way towards the Avian woman.
Magnus was facing Rina. “It looks
like you tried to outplay me,” he claimed.
“We did??” Forrest asked.
“Yes we did,” Rina lied. “We’re
always one step ahead of you, Magnus!”
“You do realize that there is no
stopping me, yes? I am immo-“
“Yeah, we already know about you.
Save us the chitter chatter.” She began making a few hand motions, ready to use
her lightning spell. “We’re not going to be one of those dumb good guys who
will say ‘drop your weapons and we will drop ours’. Screw that.” She then said
to Forrest, “Do it now. Don’t even regret!”
“Aye aye, captain!” Forrest pulled
the trigger and a large amount of fire expelled from the cubed bazooka.
Magnus gave a lone smile and then he
teleported up into the air. The flames accidentally hit the chapel instead and
it exploded in a large ball of fire.
The entire floating land was no
longer green. It was fading to brown and orange, just like the sacred Tree of
Revision.
Magnus snapped his fingers. “Clyde,
we are out of here.” He noticed that the airship was almost surrounded in
flames while barely any of the main group could be seen from his view. “Looks
like the people I was after, have fallen. There is no use for them anymore. We
will finally unleash the tower, gyahahaha!!!” [End music]
Clyde nodded. “As you wish, master.”
He teleported away with Magnus.
Hazel and Warren ran out to help
take Viola and Leo back into the airship. Lydia was slightly feeling better due
to the disappearance of natural energy from the Lumious. Felix and Lady Pria
were still out cold.
Rina watched as Hazel and Warren
carried those who were fainted. She began looking around. [Music 38.1]
“Forrest, where the hell are you?!”
She started to cast a large amount of water magic against the flames around
her, hoping that Forrest was nearby. At the same time, the large chapel was
collapsing the same direction as where Forrest last stood. With a gasp, Rina
quickly ran towards the corner of the chapel while casting more water magic
around her.
Finally, she was able to find him.
He was under a pile of rubble, fainted. Rina used her ground magic to move the
rubble away, but she was getting exhausted herself. She barely had enough
energy to hold him on her back.
“Heh, little one, you did well,” she
said with a smile as she headed towards the airship, using her last amount of
energy to disperse the flames along the way. “The things I do… for the people I
try to hate,” she said while holding onto Forrest.
The Crescent airship was steered
directly above the Lumious now. Rina had already made sure most of the flames
dispersed, but only a few resided, hopefully without spreading. Viola and Leo
were awake, but they could barely move. Lydia also came to her senses. Felix,
Forrest, and Lady Pria were still out cold.
Lydia held onto Rina’s arms. “Are
you okay, Rina?”
“Yeah… I’m fine. I just used a lot
of magic again.”
“It looks like everyone made it back
safely,” Hazel said.
Lydia turned to her, “Hazel… listen.
About Felix… I don’t think he meant what he said to you.”
Hazel said nothing.
“He’s wrong, and you know that. He
was just being controlled by Magnus.”
Hazel shook her head. “If he really
disagreed with what he said, then he would have had enough willpower to go
against such speech. If you’re strong enough, you would be able to overcome any
type of control.”
Lydia was stumped.
“He is right, however. I only base
my strengths on current knowledge. I still need to learn more about the world
no matter how much I have been through. I don’t want to repeat what was said to
me before…”
Lydia realized that Hazel must have
become some sort of worldly historian for the fact that another person from her
past insulted her lack of knowledge. Now, she is trying to regain her glory by
learning about Rhadessia’s history.
“Who told you such things in the
past?” Leo asked her. He was barely able to speak, but he could nonetheless.
As Lady Pria was wakening, Hazel
turned to her. “Pria.”
Rina gasped. “What? You know her?”
“Who knew that the legendary Avian
taught Rina all the magic she could learn this entire time,” Hazel chuckled.
Warren turned away. “She who shall
not be named… forced upon us.”
Rina tried to stand up. “You mean
she journeyed with you all this time as your sixth companion?!” She knelt down
from sudden pain.
How We've All Changed
Fear of Death
Lady Pria examined all of them
before speaking. “What happened to me? Where’s the energy that I sensed before?
It’s gone!” She suddenly yelped. “Hazel, Warren?! What’s going on here?” [End music]
After the group explained the
incident to her, she gave a huge sigh.
“I see. So Magnus talked about some
kind of tower? Rina, I must teach you the final and seventh magic in order to
counter his strengths. Once you are on par against him, there is a chance of
stopping him.”
Rina nodded. “Okay. There should be
a large, empty room in the Crescent as a training facility.” [Music 11.2]
Lydia became worried. “But, will we
make it in time to reach the tower to stop him?”
Hazel rejoined the conversation.
“World domination doesn’t just happen in a second. Even if we are too late for
the startup, we can at least stop it from finishing. Now, I would assume he
needs a place that once contained a large amount of Obsidian energy. He will
revive whatever reacts with forged Obsidian energy, not natural Obsidian energy
within Lydia.”
“In other words, chemicals,” Warren
concluded.
“That takes Celestia out of the
picture,” Rina claimed. “The home of the ‘Obsidians’ is filled with natural
energy. What would be a place that contains a large amount of messed up
Obsidian energy?”
Lydia jumped. “How about the
Sheywood and Li’Opa Jungle? Didn’t we cross some ferocious monsters there?”
“Or worse yet,” Leo said to them,
“the Mago’Ria Fey.”
Hazel agreed with him. “I knew that
cavernous graveyard was too easy to cross. It felt as if something dangerous
was hidden below it. With Professor Igor in his possession, who knows what kind
of chemical Obsidian energy he can cook up with the seven magical essences?”
Rina opened the door towards the
hallway. “Come on, Lady Pria. We have to hurry and learn the last magic while
they take us to the tower!”
As they left the room, Warren began
to steer the airship. Hazel was also about to step out.
“Where are you going?” Lydia asked
her.
“I’m never going to let that Magnus
mess with our tactics again. I will try my best to be one step ahead of him
this time.” She pointed at the ceiling, “I will be outside on the deck. Once
Warren heads closer to the Mago’Ria Fey, there is a high chance that Magnus
will try to strike us. That is my cue to help counter attack.”
Viola stood up. “Allow me to help.”
“Same here,” Leo followed.
“You’re just doing this to be with
Viola, right Leo?” Lydia giggled.
Leo screeched. “Eh?!?!!?”
“I’m just kidding, hehe!”
Felix slowly opened his eyes and his
fingers twitched. He tried to see what was in front of him. “Ly…dia?”
Hazel watched him, but she decided
to leave the room first. Instead of trying to stop him, she trusted that he was
fine this time. It was helpful to know that Magnus probably thinks the entire
group has been wiped out by the fire, so Felix would be safe from control until
they meet again. Both Viola and Leo followed her. [End music]
“What happened to me?” [Music 1.4]
Lydia held onto him tightly. “Felix,
oh it’s really you!! I’ve missed you so much.” She began to cry.
Felix blushed. “Wha…? I-I don’t
understand! How long have I been out?”
“You were being controlled by
Magnus, and said some pretty awful things,” Warren answered.
“Really? Ergh…” He felt a headache
coming.
Lydia fixed his bangs which were all
shagged from his mood shift. “You will be okay now. I think Magnus won’t be
controlling you this time. He thinks you’re dead.”
“He believes we are all dead,
according to what Rina heard him say before escaping,” Warren said while
steering.
Magnus
snapped his fingers. “Clyde, we are out of here.” He noticed that the airship
was almost surrounded in flames while barely any of the main group could be
seen from his view. “Looks like the people I was after, have fallen. There is
no use for them anymore. We will finally unleash the tower, gyahahaha!!!”
“Where is Magnus and Clyde??”
Forrest asked, finally waking up from his sleep. His face was charred in black
from the smoke.
“Clyde was there?!” Felix shouted.
“What happened to him? We needed to talk!”
Lydia frowned. “The two of them
successfully escaped after gathering up the seventh essence of magic. This is
why we need to find that tower.”
Warren squinted his eyes and looked
up ahead. “Even through the fog, I would expect to see some sort of tower, but
there is nothing beyond the Village of Saradeli.” [End music]
The ship suddenly shook as if it had
hit a giant boulder. Forrest rolled towards both Lydia and Felix.
Warren checked the radar to his
right. “This strange device is telling me that a few dots are coming this way!” [Music 50.2]
Lydia was shocked. “That means we
are being under attack! But Hazel and the others…!”
Bow Down to Hero Winter
Out on the deck, Leo punched a few
parasites that grew large from chemical Obsidian energy. Before a few from
behind could try to stab him, Leo spun and kicked at the same time, similar to
a spinning top.
Viola took the other end, slicing
every other parasite away with her spear. She was quick enough to eventually
float in the air, constantly fighting her way through each and every one of them without pause.
Finally, Hazel was in the center. She
stood still, focusing on each of her attacks. She took about five arrows at
once, hoping that she could volley against all of the parasites coming from the
outer sky.
“This will be a long fight,
everyone! I don’t know whether Magnus realizes that we are alive after all, but
Professor Igor is responsible for all of these summons!”
In the steering room, Warren tried
to turn the wheel to the right as quickly as possible. Another missile struck
the butt end of the ship, causing it to slant downward. The other three young
teenagers rolled to the other side of the room.
“Waah! Warren, can’t you do
something about this?!” Forrest yelped. He couldn’t move himself, but at least
the airship could help him with that.
“My apologies!” He took sight of
what was outside. “There seems to be both parasitical missiles and live
monsters attaching themselves against the ship.”
Lydia reached for her morning star.
“I have to help Hazel! There’s too much of them for three people to handle.”
Felix took out his Crescent blade.
“I should help too! I don’t care if they’re bloodthirsty monsters that can
instantly kill us in one hit. I’m not going to let that thought get in my way
of helping.”
Lydia nodded. “That’s the Felix we
all know, hehe!”
Forrest frowned, knowing he was
unable to help this time due to his inability to move. Warren warned the two
teenagers to stay put, but he was too busy steering the wheel as both Lydia and
Felix left.
The airship was struck with another
parasite missile again and Forrest rolled towards Warren.
“Help me, aye!” Forrest yelped.
Meanwhile, Rina jumped back. She
avoided Lady Pria’s swift movements.
“Your seventh magic is physical
speed?!”
“Not exactly. This is my own kind of
magic that will help you smooth your way through battles even if it means
lowering physical strength and raising magic strength.”
Rina tried to cast a fire missile at
her, but Pria barely moved like a leaf as she avoided the missile. Pria casted
ice on the missile before it hit the outer walls. Before Rina could make
another move, the ship shook again.
Rina clenched her teeth. “Okay,
that’s starting to piss me off. It’s getting in the way of my training!”
Lady Pria giggled. “Oh, with this
seventh, holy magic, a simple space shaking wouldn’t do anything to you.”
“So the seventh magic is what you
call, holy?”
“Yes. Now, let’s hurry this up or it
will be a long ride for you and your friends!” [End music]
Warren geared the ship eastward even
further. He grabbed onto the walkie-talkie as she sent signals to each room. [Music 26.3]
“Everyone, the engine is not working
properly!”
From the deck, Lydia and Felix
appeared. Hazel turned around, looking for the speakers attached to the ship.
“Where is that voice coming from?”
“It’s called technology,” Leo joked
at a time like this.
“Warren, can you hear us?! What is
happening?!” Hazel called out mindlessly, not knowing exactly where to yell.
Warren responded to her, “Loud and
clear! I will have to put this ship on float mode if we get struck down! How is
it outside?!”
Lydia began whacking as many
parasites with her flail while Felix slashed away the remaining monsters nearby
with his Crescent blade.
“Things are fine, but it will not
last much longer if the monsters keep coming like this!”
A missile was flying towards her
while she was distracted, but Leo managed to punch it away with his brass
knuckles. Another came flying off to the side, and Viola slashed along the
airwaves above her. The wave cut through the missile, exploding itself in
midair.
The alarms were set in the piloting
room. Warren clenched his teeth. “A few more missiles and this ship will
forcefully go down!”
Hazel nodded. “We will stop all the
missiles as best as we can! Keep pushing forward past the Village of Saradeli
if you can!”
Three more missiles came. Lydia was
pushed by a parasite. It crawled on top of her, trying to stab her, but she
constantly struggled her way out of it. Felix made his way towards them,
slashing the monster away and grabbing Lydia’s hand to get up.
Five more missiles came by this time
with more monsters. There was too many at this point!
With surprise, Leo tried to take a
few steps back, tripping in the process. “No…!” As he closed his eyes, the
missiles turned into ice and it flew away with a large gust of wind.
Rina was slightly floating in midair
with her wings, a bit more grown this time.
“You ready, Lady Pria?!”
Pria was floating right above her.
“Why have one Avian take the glory? I totally have the rest,” she said with a
smirk. The both of them swiftly moved between parasite to parasite, destroying
as many of them around the ship.
Meanwhile, the Crescent airship was
still on its way to plunging into the waters east of the village.
Warren pulled onto a stick shift,
hoping that it would at least save some
grace.
“We’re going to crash right near the
Lake City Prima!!!” Warren yelled to each room of the airship.
The people from the Lake City Prima
watched as a large airship flew at an extremely high speed towards the ocean
below them. The ship had fallen into the water, creating an enormous geyser,
almost splashing and destroying parts of the city. Even from all this, the
airship was nowhere to be found except below water level… [End music]
