Episode 09 - A Homeless Mess

The Obsidian Tale

Episode 9
[Opening 1 music]
~ Silver Forest – southern portion – exit ~

            The southern portion of Silver Forest was now being filled by turmoil and ruckus. Squirrels and rabbits bounced off the main road and into the bushes or onto the trees nearby. Forrest was thrown forward while Felix fell to the floor. Rina and Lydia freely stepped onto him to continue running, but Felix warned them to slow down now that they were free from the forest. Even from afar, they could still see smoke emitting from the central portion of the forest.
            “Slow down!” Felix commanded, making sure that Forrest had enough time to get back up.
            “What are you, stupid? We have to continue running from the soldiers.”
            “D-Did you hear the growls along the way though?”
            “It’s probably the dumb kid’s stomach again,” Rina said, pointing at Forrest.
            “Hey! That’s not nice,” Forrest frowned.
            Lydia swiftly turned around, facing the forest again. “Danger.”
            Two mountain lions appeared. Forrest proudly took out his BB gun while Felix panicked, reaching for his crescent blade. [Music 9.1]
            Rina rolled her eyes. “Okay, we don’t have time to stall. Suspenders, distract them while we make a run for it!”
            “What?!?!”
            As Rina faced Forrest who was behind her, she noticed the other two mountain lions had surrounded the group.
            “Crap, we’re surrounded,” Rina said. She grabbed for her knives but then she thought about what Lady Pria had said to her.
            “By the way, your aiming sucks.”
            One mountain lion pounced onto Felix, biting against his crescent blade. Once he fell over, the other mountain lion from behind became angry after Forrest shot its face with a light pellet from the BB gun. The lion only staggered whenever a pellet hit its face or eyes. Rina was standing in between her two allies who were slowly getting beat down by mountain lions.
            Rina coughed. “Ugh… At least I still have Lydia!”
One of the lions tried to jump onto Lydia, but her lack of control caused her to punch the lion on the chin.
            “Oh no…! I’m so sorry, lion!” Lydia crouched down, crying over the fact that she attacked an animal. The lion whimpered and rolled all over the floor and Lydia kneeled over, trying to calm it down. “I didn’t… I didn’t mean to! I’m such a horrible person!”
            “Guess I lost her too,” Rina said as she watched Lydia in tears, “In the weirdest way possible…”
            Simultaneously, Rina watched as each person struggled. Felix pushed the lion away and he grabbed onto his crescent blade. Instead of running towards the lion, Felix ran the opposite direction so he could get closer to Forrest.
            “Look out!!” Felix shouted, hoping to get one lion away from Forrest. He then yelled at Rina, “Why aren’t you doing anything?!”
            The first lion that was chasing after Felix was about a few yards closer until Rina finally, and quickly, threw her knives at it. Two knives burst into very tiny flames as it stabbed through the lion. She did the same for the other two and they were rolling along the floor in pain. The fourth lion was still in pain from Lydia’s impact. [End music]
            Felix knelt onto the ground, his eyes wide, and his arms shaking. Forrest was slightly afraid, but he was also excited that he could actually participate in a real fight. Lydia continued to cry, and Rina glared at the lions in anger.
            “Stupid Suspenders! Why didn’t you kill the lion when you knocked it down earlier?! Why did you run instead? Geez, you piss me off sometimes!”
            “You’re the one who stood there for the longest time! You have knives, geez!”
            Rina rolled her eyes. “You were just in the way,” she said as an excuse.
            Felix stopped feeling anguish towards her once he noticed that the lions were excreting blood out of the stab wounds. “Th-The lions… they’re bleeding.”
            “Well duh. I did that.”
            “But they’re… bleeding!”
            Forrest tilted his head. “Felix is afraid of blood?”
            Rina shrugged. “Just a bunch of dying animals. Who cares?”
            Felix closed his eyes. “But they’re innocent animals. Of course it’s natural for them to chase after us as prey, but that’s just what they are. You killed an animal!”
            “Are you stupid? It could have killed you. It’s survival.”
            “I know that!! It’s just…”
            Forrest patted Felix on the shoulder. “You never seen someone die or get hurt this much before, right?”
            Rina yawned. “Hm. Even Forrest knows what is happening here. Boooooring!~”
            Forrest gave Felix a hug. “Let’s keep going. We can rest when we are safe from those meany soldiers.”
            Felix stood up. He was still a little shaky, but he could move and think consciously. Rina helped Lydia as well, lying and pretending that Lydia is just dreaming and that she will only wake up if she calms down.

~ South of Silver Forest – three-way split ~

            It has been only a few minutes since the group of four continued to walk. The Silver Forest was past them now, and they could only see it in the mist from afar. Now, they have arrived at huge grasslands with a continuous train track reaching out to the ends of their vision. Felix had not spoken since they left the mountain lions, but he came to a stop. [Music 5.1]
            “Hey, you guys?” Felix said with concern.
            “What is it now?”
            “I was just wondering… how did you get used to seeing these things die?”
            Rina said nothing. Forrest tried to remember. “Um… In the Ouli Brye place… I’ve seen stuff like that happen before, but I was little. It didn’t really get to me though because I didn’t understand what was happening. It was kinda normal to see it happen a lot.”
            “Is Ouli Brye dangerous?”
            “From where I lived, it used to be, but I don’t know anymore. People say there are two parts to Ouli Brye. The wanna-be warzone and the place where people sell stuff.”
            “It’s called a flea market,” Rina corrected him. “From what I read, the north stopped being a warzone ever since a new king reigned over. Both the north and south have markets, but the south has a lot more. I haven’t read recent books, so I’m not sure how Ouli Brye is doing now.”
            Felix sighed. “Are we going to the warzone size then?”
            “Most likely. But right now, I don’t think there is any point for Ouli Brye to be fighting with anyone. From the readings, Ouli Brye is occupied by the Lennox army, and the one we’re trying to avoid is the Gammel army, so we should be safe there.”
            Forrest agreed with her, “I follow the evil lady for once.”
            “Hey!” Rina said in the background.
            Forrest continued, “And so far, the Gam-mel army people are going after us right? They can’t be focusing too much on their enemies or whatever. There won’t be any wars!”
            Rina turned away. “You also have to take into consideration of their army size. Maybe they’re using parts of the army to chase after us, and the other half to fend against Lennox.”
            Felix grinned. “Why were they ever opposing sides in the first place?”
            “Eh, beats me. I haven’t read that far into history. Who do you think I am, a bookworm?”
            “Well you’re always nagging people to do what you think is best,” Felix replied.
            “I hate you,” Rina said to him. [End music]

Let's Sing a Song!

            Lydia began biting onto a slab of wood nearby the train tracks. [Music 6.1]
            “L-Lydia, don’t eat that!”
            Lydia stared at her with a blank face. “Wood doesn’t taste so bad.”
            Rina grabbed the square-shaped wood away from Lydia. “How many times have I told you to stay away from trying anything exotic? Cave walls, flowers, wood, and even more wood?”
            Forrest looked up at the wooden piece. “Looky there! There’s something on the wood.”
            Rina turned it around and she noticed a sign showing “hills” and an arrow pointing to the left and “Ouli Brye” pointing to the right.
            “We all want to go to Ouli Brye,” Forrest reminded them, “So let’s go right!”
            Rina kicked his butt, knocking him over. “Don’t be stupid. Whenever something like this happens, we have to go the opposite direction.”
            Lydia suddenly began crying. “I-I’m so sorry… I shouldn’t have bitten off the sign! If I didn’t, we would have known which way to go!”
            Rina rolled her eyes. “Stop blaming yourself. It’s not your fault, geez.”
            Felix tried to correct her, “Actually, this time it really is her-“
            Rina kicked him in the face. “It’s not her fault!”
            Forrest ran towards him to check if he was bleeding. Rina continued leftward towards what could be either the hills or Ouli Brye itself. [End music]

~ Left path of train tracks - Isolated House ~

            It has been an hour since the group left the split road and still no sign of a huge city yet. Forrest began feeling hungry. Felix was too focused on the mountain lions from before and Rina tried to stop Lydia from tasting any suspicious plants around them.
            “I swear, you really need to get your shards back because by the time I find them, you’ll be unhealthy and dying from all these poisonous plants.” [Music 3.2]
            Felix shook his head from all his deep thinking as he pointed at a house up ahead, “Hey guys… are you sure we went the right way?”
            Forrest looked confused. “Hm… Ouli Brye sure looks a lot smaller than I remember…”
            Felix elbowed Rina’s arm, “This is the wrong way, and you chose it.”
            Rina grabbed his neck with both arms, shaking him back and forth, “Do you want to die?!” She screamed at him while she blushed.
            Forrest watched one of the wooden planks on the roof suddenly fall apart.
            Lydia took a step back. “Something is inside.”
            Rina threw Felix onto the ground and then she stood in front of Lydia.
            “Don’t scare me like that. We should just ignore this creepy-looking house and walk the other way.”
            Felix, while making his way back up, noticed that the train tracks also stopped here. Forrest was surprised at how Lydia could sense something in the house beforehand, but Rina simply insulted him and said it is because of the smoke coming out of the chipped chimney.
            Forrest and Felix were slightly hesitant to go into the house which looked abandoned and old. The grass in front were still green but the exterior of the building was run-down. There was sheer silence, and a small amount of colored birds pecked at the little pond near the grass. Rina wanted to prove the boys wrong, for real this time, so she went ahead with Lydia. This forcefully made the boys follow.
~~~
            At the front door, Rina grabbed the doorknob and pushed it forward, but the whole door fell over instead.
            “Er…” Felix said slowly.
            Rina smiled. “Oh. Suspenders, looks like we’ve found paradise for you after all. Now you can live happily ever after here.”
            “Very funny.” Felix rolled his eyes.
            “Is anybody home?” Lydia asked rudely, mostly because she couldn’t express kindness and emotion.
            “You know, on the way to this house, I noticed that the weeds were recently picked and harvested. It seems like someone really is here, and no ghost,” Felix whispered.
            “D-Don’t say ghost! They’re scary,” Forrest whimpered.
            “HEL-LO??!!” Rina shouted without any care.
            Felix interrupted her. “Sh, sh!! What if it’s some kind of assassin?!”
            “An assassin wouldn’t leave smoke coming out of the chimney along with plants being weeded out. Do you know how they work?”
            “How would you know that?” Felix questioned her.
            “It’s common sense. I read fairytales too. Well… not for me, but for Lydia.” [End music]
            The group heard an extremely loud noise from the room to their upper right corner, followed by a pathetic yelp.
            “Gyeeeeh!!!” They heard.
            Rina stood in front of Lydia, complaining that the scream came from Felix. Felix ignored her and he stealthily headed closer to the next room.
            Forrest began shivering. “Ghosts… it has to be!”
            Felix peered into the room with just his head. “I could have sworn I heard a loud noise. It sounded like armor but it’s sitting up-right against the wall.”
            The room was bright and squeaky-clean. There was a mattress sitting on top of a steel bed frame. The drawers were nice enough to see your reflections on them. Anything else was just storage that was stacked neatly off to the side.
            Forrest tip-toed into the room. There was nothing thrown on the floor even if it sounded as if something fell.
            “I-It’s the ghost, I tell you!” He examined the armor but nothing happened.
            Lydia shrugged. “It still feels like we are being watched.”
            Forrest inched closer towards the armor’s helmet. “This is cool. I haven’t seen this before.”
            His face was only about a foot away from the helmet until it suddenly pushed itself forward with a scream. “BOO!” [Music 9.2 - mainly the first 22 seconds]
            Forrest screamed and he hurriedly hid behind Felix, crying. Rina laughed barbarically and Felix readied his crescent blade. Lydia walked in front of all of them, however.
            Rina gasped. “Wait a minute. Lydia, let me do this.”
            Ignoring her, Lydia kicked the helmet away but there was no head!
            Lydia suddenly cried. “I’m so sorry! I must have kicked your head off!!”
            Forrest screamed even louder from the headless armored body. “EYAAAH!!!! It IS a ghost!!!!”
            Suddenly, a head appeared out of the armor head instead.
            “Phew! It was a good thing I ducked!” He said, sighing. His voice cracked.
            “That doesn’t look like a ghost to me,” Felix said, placing his blade back into his sheath.
            The tall man, still in his armor, walked closer to Forrest with all of his clinking noises. Forrest was still crying, grabbing tighter onto Felix’s shirt.
            “It’s okay, kiddo. I won’t hurt you.”
            “You might as well though,” Rina suggested, feeling annoyed by Forrest’s constant crying.
            The strange man lent out his hand and Forrest slowly tried to hold on. Forrest literally had to look upward in order to see his face.
            “See? Everything is fine,” he smiled, letting go.
            “So… you’re not a ghost??” Forrest wiped his nose which was dripping in snot.
            “I’m not! H-Hey, don’t let that drip onto the floor!”
            He took off his armor, revealing what he was originally wearing. He was tall with a poorish, dirty-green garment. He had long hair and a notable mustache. Although he looked as if Big Foot went to the gym for a few years, the man's expressions showed friendliness towards the main group.
            Rina stared at him. “I don’t get it. You haven’t shaved your mustache, nor have you cut your hair. You look like some hobo with that ugly ragged clothes. Yet… your room is clean as hell.”
            “You can’t say a room is clean and then call it Hell,” He laughed. “I just like being clean around me. It doesn’t matter if I’m not. Anyway, I’m Leo!”
            “And I don’t care.” Rina turned away. “Alright, Lydia, let’s get out of here. Suspenders, you might as well stay with this weird guy. It seems peaceful here enough.”
            “Oh?” Leo stopped her. “And where are you in a rush to?” [End music]
            “Ouli Brye,” Lydia answered without thinking.
            “Lydia! Don’t tell strangers where we’re going. Sheesh.” Rina forcefully grabbed Lydia’s hand as she tried to run out.
            “Ouli Brye is not a safe place right now,” Leo said.
            Rina paused by the doorway. “What do you mean by that?”
            “If you care enough, we can sit down for a cup of coffee. I would rather enjoy your company since you all seem harmless.”
            “Ugh… this guy is so lonely,” Rina insulted. “But hey, I’ll take some coffee.”
            Felix whispered to Forrest, “Whatever happened to being in a hurry like she always has been?” Forrest chuckled in response.
            “I heard that!” Rina shouted.
~ Isolated House – dining room ~
            Leo handed everyone a cup of hot coffee. He had already finished cooking a small portion of food, assuming it was only for him before. However, he vowed to share it all with his visitors.
Juggling with Glass
            When Forrest grabbed onto the cup of coffee with two hands, Leo suddenly screamed in fear. [Music 9.2 - starting at 22 seconds]
            Forrest dropped the cup onto Felix’s knee, burning him a little. “Wh-What is it?! What happened?!” Forrest asked Leo.
            Leo pointed at Forrest, “The horror!”
            “Huh???”
            “You need to hold it by the handle with your pinky out!”
            Rina tapped her own forehead onto the wooden table several times in shame, one after each word: “We. Don’t. Have. Time. For. Overdramatic. Situations.”
            Lydia watched her, and then she copied Rina’s forehead taps. Forrest grabbed the cup, hoping there was still some coffee left.
            Leo frowned. “Sorry. Force of habi- UWAAAH!!!”
            Forrest was startled again, dropping the rest of the coffee onto Felix’s knees.
            Rina stood up. “What is it now?!”
            “You’re dropping coffee all over the floor!” he said dramatically. He suddenly calmed down, “Anyway, you wanted to hear about Ouli Brye’s current situation, yes?” [End music]
            Felix spoke before Rina could throw a tantrum, “Um, yeah. My friend is apparently a part of some expedition. Well, he’s doing it as a hostage by the Gammel army for assumed infiltration.”
            “The Gammel army is already making their way to Ouli Brye?!” Leo clenched his fists. “This is happening faster than I thought.”
            “Why? What’s happening? I used to live there!” Forrest panicked. [Music 8.2]
            Leo became serious, “The current king of Ouli Brye is whom we’re supposed to call ‘King Nader’. I overheard a conversation between him and some woman talking about the overthrow of Ouli Brye’s kingdom. When the past king passed away, King Nader called forth his agreement to support the Lennox army, but that conversation just reeked of Gammel conspiracy. Eventually when Gammel creates enough army masses, King Nader will get the signal to make the Lennox army defenseless. The new king had been appointed seven years ago, but I barely heard about the conspiracy a year ago.”
            “What?!” Felix responded. “You mean the current king is just waiting until the Gammel army is giving them the signal to take over?!”
            “Exactly. I know all of this because… I used to live in Ouli Brye as well, just like this young boy here.”
            “The name’s Forrest! Hehe.”
            Rina crossed her arms. “Hmph. Interesting. What made you live out here on your own? To get away from all that?”
            “You could say that. I suppose I didn’t want to deal with Ouli Brye. No matter what, though, my heart still goes to that city itself before the old king passed away. It’s just that… I will have to stay here from now on in order to stay out of trouble. Maybe you all can live with me! It would feel like a party every day.”
            Rina shook her head. “Um, no thanks. I need to get the shards for Lydia. Apparently, they’ve been split into seven different pieces all over the world and we only recovered two. I have a feeling that with the Gammel army getting close to taking over Ouli Brye, that stupid Talbot scientist should be there any time soon.”
            Forrest tried to remember. “Scientist… that crazy guy back in Kyrie? He was after that shiny thing that Jess was holding!”
            “Exactly. Whether you’re coming or not, I’m still going after that bastard. He might have a better idea about where the shards are, so I’m going to force some answers out of him.” [End music]
Green Like the Environment
            “At any rate, we should get going immediately.”
            “For once, I agree with Suspenders here.”
            “Haven’t you agreed with me on something before?”
            “Shut up.”
            Felix turned to Leo, “Thanks for the coffee, sir. This will keep me awake for a while longer. I need to find Clyde, and maybe we can even have a little truce talk with King Nader himself.” [Music 4.1]
            Forrest grabbed onto Leo’s arms, “You should come with us! I’m sure it gets lonely here.”
            “Wha? N-No, I shouldn’t!” Leo hesitated.
            “What? Scared that your motherly hometown is going to get destroyed by the king?” Rina mocked. “You love the city so much that you’re just going to let it rot in the fake king’s laughter?”
            “I-If you put it that way… But you don’t understand!”
            Rina scratched her head. “Hm, well then, you can stay here. I was just suggesting because we need someone older with us. I don’t want to deal with the dumb and dumber here.” Rina pointed at the two boys that she had been traveling with.
            Lydia clapped her hands together without a smile. “Then it’s settled. The five of us are going!”
            “Um… you mean four,” Felix counted. “Leo said he’s not going, and we should respect that.”
            “Leo,” Lydia spoke hopefully, “you should go with us. I think it would be nice for you to see your homeland in one piece, whether it gets destroyed or not. We might not understand, but you could at least try to stop the king.”
            “Words of wisdom coming from someone who’s supposed to lack wisdom at the moment, very nice,” Rina complimented her.
            Leo was shaking, “But I… Fine. If things go wrong, then that’s when I should take my leave. I’m warning you now: you don’t understand my situation. Hold on, let me go get my weapon.”
            While Leo went into his bedroom, Felix said to Rina, “Leo is an adult, so now you can refrain from all of your insults, heh.”
            “Who said he’s going to stop me?” Rina questioned.
            Forrest stood behind Felix, “I don’t think Leo is capable of stopping her, Felix…”
            “Yeah, you’re probably right.”
            Rina headed for the front door with Lydia.
            Felix said to Forrest, “I know she seems mean, but I can see why she’s like that. She told us before that it’s because no one took her seriously, so I’m sure she’d prefer if people were scared of her so that they can finally listen. She seems very optimistic in helping Lydia too. It might be interesting to find out what Lydia’s true personality is like because right now, she spaces out so much. I might want to help her instead of finding a safe place. Like you said, it would get boring to live alone out here, right?”
            Forrest giggled. “Hehe, you’re right! Can I follow along too? Maybe by the time I return to Kyrie, I’ll be much stronger!”
            “Well first, we have to find you a real weapon. Maybe Leo has one?”
            “I only want to hold weapons with bullets in them!”
            Felix scratched his head. “You know, I think you’re a bit under-aged to use them.”
            Forrest sighed. “Even Sydney used to complain to me about that. I’m only going to use it as self-defense. I won’t go crazy.”
            “Sorry, Forrest,” Leo said, interrupting them. “I don’t have any ammunition weapons, but I do have swords. A long sword, at that.”
            “Yuck. I don’t want that stuff,” Forrest coughed.
            “Fine then, I’ll keep it,” Leo said kindly. “I actually don’t like these weapons but you know, a weapon is a weapon.”
            “What is your preferred weapon?” Felix asked Leo.
            Leo shrugged. “Good question. Even I don’t know. In Ouli Brye, they always forced me to learn how to use a sword but I never liked it.”
            “They?” Forrest wondered.
            “Oh don’t worry about it. They’re just people I used to talk to and live with back in the city. They would say ‘use a sword, not a bow, or a gun, or knuckles’. I’ve tried bows and guns, but I’m terrible at aiming. Knuckles seem the easiest to use, but I haven’t been fighting with them for a while, so even swords are easier.”
            Felix gave Leo a handshake, “Well, I’m with you on that! My friend Clyde always forced me to learn how to use the rapier, but I never liked it. I think a crescent blade is easier to use since the blade is all over the weapon and not just the pointy end of a sword, so it’s harder to miss.”
            Rina shouted from afar, “Hello?! Lydia and I are waiting, damn it!”
            “Sorry!” Felix called. He faced Leo and said, “We really should head onward. And um, are you going to leave dressed like that?” He pointed at Leo’s ragged clothing.
            Leo sniffed his overall beige garment, “Why not? If it still smells nice, I don’t see the problem.”
            Felix and Forrest looked at each other, and then back at Leo.
            Felix tried not to judge him. “Well then… let’s go, new friend!”
            “You said it!” Leo said happily. [End music]
New updates! - 11/23/2014
Here we go, new stuff!
  • Episode 8 is posted!
  • Episodes 4-7 now have optional scenes.
What I still need to update on are:
  • Episodes 8's optional scenes.
  • Complete the opening drawing  for episodes 1-13 (which will be covered during Thanksgiving week)
  • Add Professor Nell's character page.
  • Finish every other character's information on their character page.
Last thing I want to add: Episode 8 is one of my favorites in terms of early episodes. The story gets way better later, but episode 8 begins the group's bonding moments as they travel together to work for the same problem.
From now on, we will see more of Forrest, who now permanently joins the group with Felix, Lydia, and Rina!
Episode 08 - Forest of the Damned
The Obsidian Tale
Episode 8
[Opening 1 music]
~ Silver Forest – northern portion – near the waterfall ~
            Finally, we get to see the natures of the world of Rhadessia. First, we experienced what it was like in a village, and then a city, followed by a town. Now, Felix is out to experience the world in its natural habitat for the first time. Well, it wasn’t much of a good experience for Felix as he was-
            “Faaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllliiiiinnnnggggg!!!!!” Felix shouted from the bottom of his lungs while being tossed into a large pool of water.
            Falling underwater, he could see Rina holding Lydia towards the surface while Forrest was last to drop. In an attempt to do the same as Rina, Felix tried to swim his way towards Forrest who was struggling against a rock.
            As the group of four reached the closest surface possible, they could see the four mountain lions pawing their way out of the water, but they were struggling.
            “Leave them. They’ve caused us enough trouble,” Rina claimed as she helped wring out Lydia’s long hair. [Music 5.1]
            “I…” Lydia began to sob.
            Forrest gasped. “It’s okay! We will be fine.”
            “No, it’s not that. I just…” Lydia began crying barbarically. “My hair is so wet, it must have slowed you all down! If only I had it shorter, we wouldn’t have to waste time drying it out!”
            “Really?” Felix rolled his eyes.
            “Rina, please, give me your knives! I must cut my hair!”
            “What the hell?!” Rina jumped away from her. “You are not cutting your hair.”
            Lydia suddenly said calmly as shook her head, “That is okay. I am beautiful with my long hair anyway.”
            “Wha- That was a sudden change of mood,” Felix said in awe.
            She headed towards Felix and then she punched him in the face for no reason.
Felix’s nose began to bleed and Forrest hid behind the nearest tree in fear. [End music]
            “You two better get used to this. She does it all the time.” Rina headed towards a shallow path that was a clear indicator to the other side of the forest. [Music 8.1]
            Their walk was rather quiet. Lydia occasionally wandered off to smell the flowers or to touch the tree barks, but Rina disallowed her in doing so. Felix and Forrest were walking closest to each other, but even they didn’t speak much. Felix seemed very worried for his mother while Forrest wanted to return to Kyrie for his own friends. After about an hour of walking, the sun was setting.
            “Should we take a rest? It’s getting a little dark now,” Felix suggested.
            “Who made you leader? Sheesh.” Rina continued walking.
            Lydia knelt down and she began to cry. “I’m so sorry, Rina… I’m getting tired too.”
            “Great. You lose your shards and you somehow have a limited amount of energy. I wish you lost your sense of exhaustion.”
            “Seriously, lady. It’s-“
            “HEY. It’s RINA. Get it right.”
            Forrest hid behind Felix. “B-But, we are tired.”
            Rina closed her eyes, proving her impatience. “Look, you dumb idiots. I’ve told you SEVERAL times that I’m not going to let any of you slow me down on finding those shards. I’m going to say it one last time: STOP FOLLOWING M-“ Her stomach interrupted her with the loudest rupture.
            Felix and Forrest began chuckling together while Rina was blushing.
            “Why don’t we go search for food and then sit somewhere?” Felix suggested.
            “Just one break only,” Rina commanded.
The Gorilla Beast
How to Ask a Question
            It was becoming nightfall now, and the group of four rejoiced. The men returned with a pack of fruits ranging from apples to oranges. Lydia sat around, watching Rina play with firewood. [End music]
            “We’re back!” Felix said proudly. [Music 1.4]
            Forrest tried to copy Felix’s footsteps, but he only tripped and dropped his stack of oranges. Rina snickered at him, telling him to be as quiet as possible. She became concerned with the amount of smoke dispersing from the flames of the firewood.
            “I don’t think having a campfire is a good idea. Maybe we should scrap it,” Rina said to both Felix and Forrest.
            “But it’s cold out here!”
            “Would you rather have me heat you with a nice fireball?”
            Felix stood in front of Forrest, “You don’t have you make him feel bad every time you talk.” He noticed Forrest wanted to cry.
            Rina blasted the firewood with flames. “Alright, fine. If you ever get in trouble, this will not be my fault. I hope you two can stop your complaining already.”
            Forrest ran towards Rina with a hug, “Thank you, thank you, thank you, Rina-lady!”
            Rina blushed. “H-Hey! Get the hell off of me, you freak child!”
            Felix handed two apples to Rina but she only snatched it away without giving thanks. Felix, being used to this type of behavior, smiled and sat next to Forrest.
            “So, Mister Felix! Wanna play a game?”
            “H-Huh? What kind of game?”
            “Let’s see who can finish an apple first. The winner takes an extra orange!”
            Felix laughed. “Ahah, I’ll have you know that in my hometown, I was known to be the biggest eater.”
            “Really? Hey wait, how about you tell me what’s it like in the village? Was it fun?”
            Felix shook his head. “Of course! Well, at times it gets a little repetitive. My mom and I would always work in our backyard, harvesting crops. It gets tougher during Winter season.”
            “How is that fun?”
            “You didn’t let me finish. I used to play a lot of tricks on the market sellers in the central plaza and they would always get mad at me. And, don’t forget the ladies,” Felix chuckled, elbowing Forrest on his right arm.
            Rina rolled her eyes. “Did you get that audacity from Clyde?”
            Felix blushed from her assumption. “What?! No!” He then tried to whisper to Rina, “I was just trying to make Forrest feel better.”
            Rina pouted. “Talking about girls to a little boy shouldn’t make him feel better.”
            “Who is Clyde??” Forrest asked.
            “A pervert,” Lydia answered.
            “No, he’s not a pervert. He’s one of the most well-known chivalrous guys back at the village,” Felix rephrased. [End music]
            Rina began laughing. “Ahah, that’s right! Saradeli must be producing all you strange children.”
            “That’s not nice,” Forrest said to her. “Mister Felix is such a good guy!”
            “Yeah well, he isn’t so smart. I would have gotten more shards at this rate and Lydia would be just fine without him!”
            “Do you really think I’m slowing you down?” Felix became slightly insecure now. He waited for an answer but Rina didn’t respond. [Music 8.2]
            “Why don’t you answer him, Rina lady?” Forrest waited, but after a few seconds, he said to Felix out loud, “She’s not very nice at all.”
            Rina stomped her foot. “It’s because I’m so worked up with trying to save Lydia, okay?! She’s…”
            Both Felix and Forrest stopped. They listened carefully this time.
            Rina looked away. “You won’t understand. Having only one friend throughout your whole life, being caved into a home for several years, and not being able to see your real parents? Yeah, that’s nothing like how Suspenders can live with his mom and how Forrest lives with three friends. Everything is like a blur for me, and the reason why bad things kept happening before is because nobody would take me seriously. I was too passive and they treated me like a child.”
            “Rina…” Felix said with guilt.
            “What’s even worse now is that my only best friend can’t even remember who I am. She doesn’t even remember who she is! It’s frustrating because even I don’t know if I’ll ever find those seven shards, yet I keep telling myself to keep going. Come on, how stupid is it to strive for seven little shards when it could be anywhere in the world? Funny, right? Maybe it’s better to just stop right now.”
            “Rina! Stop,” Felix ordered. “You’ve already gotten two shards and it was pretty quick in my opinion.”
            Rina pouted with anger. “So what? It was by luck. And besides, I saw it myself. When those seven shards scattered all over the world, some flew far away, and some fell into neighboring areas like Kyrie. We’ve only gotten through the easy parts. They could be as far as the other side of the world for all I know. Maybe, maybe even down the ocean!”
            Felix stood up with pride. “Then I’ll help you find them!”
            Rina gasped. “What? Don’t be daft. You’re just going to slow me down like the usual. You should just go find some safe place to live in for the rest of your life.”
            Felix chuckled a little. He thought about it carefully.
            “That was my initial thought. Right now, my main goal is to save Clyde from that stupid expedition that the leader of the Gammel army was talking about.”
            “I think her name is Floir,” Forrest interrupted.
            “Yeah, her. Well, once I get Clyde, maybe we can help you collect those shards. Even if I slow you down, at least Clyde is known to pick up the pace real quick.”
            “You mean I’ll have to deal with that flirt for the rest of this quest? Hell no. You two should just go back to your peaceful village lives. Leave. Me. Alone.”
            Felix clenched his teeth and fists, feeling rejected after offering help. He began shaking and Forrest felt frightened.
            “You don’t know how hard it is to live in a village either, okay? I have no idea what happened twenty years ago with the poison in Saradeli, but ever since then, we were known to barely live on our own. Sure, we have fun moments here and there, but doesn’t everybody have them too? My mom and I have waited years for our dad to come home… but he never did!! You might have thought it was stupid of me to barge into that battleship just to look for my dad-“
            “Yeah, that was pretty stupid,” Rina interrupted.
            Felix’s voice rose: “But my strive to find him has accumulated. I couldn’t leave the village on my own. I was scared! He just left. He disappeared without an answer besides ‘I’m going to work for the government’. Do you know what it’s like to have a family member run away without a clear reason why?!”
            Rina’s heart skipped a beat. Her eyes widened and she had nothing more to say. She turned away. [End music]
            Through the awkward silence, Forrest began to add his own input. “I miss my friends too…”
            Felix and Rina still looked away without reacting to his speech.
            “Spencer, Sydney, and Jess…” He recalled. “Spencer was so shy and was always scared to fight for justice. Sydney was a little taller, so of course she picked on him for being a scaredy-cat. Jess was our leader. She…” Forrest began to cry as he remembered one of the biggest memories he has had with her.
            A young girl arrived at the top of the waterfall. She began to tie her hair into pigtails, but she contemplated on just leaving them dangling downward instead of outward. She turned around and helped three other children. [Music 8.3]
            “Phew! A-Are we the only ones left?” She asked.
            Spencer and Sydney were next to land above the waterfall. Forrest was last, and he didn’t react much. He felt emotionless while Spencer and Sydney were in tears. What just happened?
            “So we don’t know what happened to everyone else, huh…” Jess sighed.
            Sydney hugged Jess as tightly as she could. “I’m scared! What happened to mommy?! What about daddy?!”
            “I don’t know where my parents are either. We will find out ourselves!” She was prideful, but she could not impress Forrest who only stood far away from the group of three. “You there. Come here.”
            “W-Why? What if you steal me away just like those mean people did to mommy and daddy?”
            “I’m just a little girl. I won’t hurt you,” Jess said as she began grabbing something in her backpack.
            Forrest almost fell backward, down into the waterfall due his surprised suspicion on Jess. Jess dropped her backpack and she ran as quickly as possible to grab Forrest away from the waterfall.
            Forrest pushed himself forward as he fell on top of her. Jess began to laugh, confusing all of the children.
            “Hey,” Sydney checked Jess’s backpack, “What do you have here?”
            Jess blushed. “H-Hey you! I’m supposed to take those out myself!”
            Spencer began to cry again. “She has a meanie weapon gun!”
            “No! It’s not like that.” Jess snatched her backpack away from Sydney. “They’re just capes… of the four main colors: red, blue, green, and yellow.”
            Sydney had her hands beside her hips. “And why do you have those?!”
            “Because… I was going to share them with you all. My daddy told me they’re symbolism of bravery and that each color has its own story.”
            Spencer and Sydney crept closer. “Sym-bol-is-m???” they said together.
            Forrest slowly crept closer, feeling curious about these so-called symbolism of bravery. Spencer grabbed the blue cape while Sydney held onto the green one.
            “That blue one is for you.”
            Spencer blushed. “M-Me?! Really?! What does it mean?”
            “Blue marks the sailing sea. Deep down inside you, you know that fighting crime can be found through smooth, calm conversations, and that in order to win, you must call for a proper and mature treaty of some sort.”
            “This boy isn’t calm at all,” Sydney joked. Spencer wanted to cry again.
            “And you,” Jess pointed at Sydney’s green cape, “Green represents nature and its peacefulness. You must erase yourself of all stress and bring in a new world of acceptance.”
            “Wow, cool!” Sydney giggled. “What does it mean?”
            Jess shrugged. “Even I don’t know. My daddy tells me that all the time before I go to bed though. Oh, yeah, and yellow!” Jess handed a yellow cape to Forrest.
            Forrest still said nothing. He seemed shy.
            “Yellow stabilizes between the heart of what is right and what is wrong. However, what seems ‘wrong’, can be the right thing to do. When your most loved one may fall, like a crackle in the ground, you will learn to pick yourself up no matter what.”
            “Since then…” Forrest concluded, “We became much closer. We told our names, and even Jess told me I became less shy. We were so eager to find out what happened to our parents too, so we claimed there was a bad guy involved!” [End music]
            Felix patted Forrest’s shoulder. “Ah, so that’s why you want to be a hero!”
            “Uh-huh!”
            “So what was the red cape about?”
            “Jess’s cape? Um… I can’t remember. I think it was about how to contain her rage, and she has. I guess the story of the cape came true for her so far!”
            Lydia said to them, “But your yellow cape story – did it come true yet?”
            Forrest gave a short gasp and Rina laughed, “Hah! These cape stories sound like total bullcrap to me.”
            Forrest said angrily, “Shut up! Jess’s dad told her these stories and she kept them dear to her! Her dad is gone, so we can never find out if it’s true or not.”
            “Well, it’s like any other bedtime story. It’s just some fairytale.”
            “Okay, you two!” Felix stopped them. “We shouldn’t fight at a time like this.”
            There was silence.
            “Is this the first time we have ever bonded together?” Lydia asked bluntly.
            Rina had her legs crossed. She pouted again and then snickered. “Tch! Bonding? Nobody has time for bonding. Once the next morning hits, we’re leav-“
            She suddenly heard snoring.
            Forrest gawked. “Ehehe… Lydia already fell asleep.”
            “But she was talking like five seconds ago…” Felix finished before the group decided to stop talking and rest on their own…
~~~
            “…dia…” No answer. “…ydia… Lydia!” [Music 2.2]
            “Yes, mommy?”
            “Your daddy and I want to give you something for doing well in school.”
            “How do you know of my grades?”
            “We asked your teacher about how you were doing, but it looks like we can trust you now. You are doing perfect!”
            “Mommy, I’ve changed. I’m trying harder in school now!”
            “We know, we know,” She smiled. “Anyway, we want to give you… this!”
            Her mother swung her hand forward and Lydia saw the most beautiful, fluffy, blue teddy bear that she had always wanted for her birthday. Lydia screamed and she began to jump into tears.
            “Mommy!! Mommy, I love it!!”
            “And come outside to the kitchen! Your daddy made your favorite breakfast!”
            Lydia’s father placed a plate of strawberry pancakes with rich honey syrup. “Your mom and I remembered how much you loved watching the plays about the friendly bigfoot. What did they call him, the blue-horned monster of the swamp?”
            “Something like that…” Lydia felt embarrassed, knowing that he was way off. [End music]
            Lydia blinked. Suddenly, she was standing at a faraway distance from her home. She watched as flames burst from inside-out.
            Nearby, she could hear a husky voice call out, “Viola Santa Lucia. You are ordered to track down anybody who is seen as an Obsidian. This will be your first mock-mission. Do not fail me.”
            Lydia ignored her as she watched her house fall slowly from the crackling flames. “No… No…! NO!!!”

            Lydia sat up as quickly as possible.
            “Nightmare?!” Lydia said to herself. [Music 8.4]
            She turned around and noticed that a soldier was about to stab her. He could have shot her, but he didn’t want to wake the others. Lydia kicked him in the genitals, but oddly enough, Lydia was the one who screamed and cried. Felix, Rina, and Forrest woke up immediately and noticed that the flames of the campfire had dispersed and only smoke was rising upwards.
            The soldier whined, rolling around the floor in pain. The group of four made their way into a random opening closest to them as they kept running without thinking much. They were under attack and Rina regretted having to make a campfire the night before.
            Throughout their run, Rina missed several times when she threw her knives while at the same time, bringing the knives back to her grip with the help of fire synthesis.
            Rina was in the front of the line, having to swipe her hand in front of everyone.
            “Sh! I hear their ugly clinking armor coming closer. We have to hide.”
            Lydia was about to cry, but Rina tried to silence her immediately by covering her mouth. Felix turned around and he noticed a small opening in between two boulders.
            “Let’s hide in here!” Felix suggested.
            The group of four made their way in between the boulders. [End music]

An Obvious Fit

            After about several seconds of silence, Forrest commented on the space around him, “Hm, I didn’t think this would be so roomy.”
            Lydia coughed. “It’s like living as a giant bear within rocks.”
            Rina rolled her eyes. “That makes no sense at all!”
            Forrest grinned. “I heard the bear wasn’t that mean many years ago. I don’t know why though.”
            Rina covered his mouth. “Okay, stop talking!”
            The soldiers sounded as if they were getting closer. Rina pushed everyone back by impulse and the three of them fell. Rina took a step back the moment she saw a soldier’s leg standing only about a foot away from her face.
            Rina whispered to them, “Stay quiet.” There was no answer. “Yeah, just like that.”
            She turned around. “What the-!” Her companions were completely gone!
            Rina tried to reach into the darkness, hoping her hands could at least locate one of them but she realized the extra space that she was given. She began taking a few steps into the darkness, further away from the soldier.

~ Silver Forest – southern portion – secret pond ~

            After a small moment, Rina was able to find Felix, Lydia, and Forrest. They were in awe at what they were seeing. In front of them were dim lights of green. Bubbles were levitating from a small pond, and then they popped like a humid sauna. Some of the plants glowed in the dark as well, all of the same color: light green.
            Rina shrugged. “Kay, enough of this extremely random scene. I think we should find a way out of this forest as soon as possible.”
            Lydia took a step back. “I… I sense a very strong spirit nearby.”
            “Lydia, what are you talking about? I’m right here!” Rina joked as she tried to find her way out. [Music 1.3]
            Suddenly, a half-transparent woman appeared above the pond. She had light, magenta-colored hair with beads tied in several braids along her hair. Her long, orange and foreign dress ran down her entire body, completed with green elf shoes. She looked rather mythical and unreal to them.
            “G-Ghost!!!” Forrest fell, crawling behind Felix’s left leg.
            “Well, she’s pretty,” Felix commented.
            Rina rolled her eyes. “I didn’t know you were into older women. You’re just like Clyde, I swear.”
            Felix blushed. “I-I was just complimenting her looks!”
            “Welcome, travelers. My name is Lady Pria.”
            “L-Lady PRIA?!” Felix knelt down as he prayed to her. Forrest did the same, realizing that maybe this woman was of an ancient spirit.
            Rina headed closer to the pond. “Who the hell are you?”
            “Rina! She’s like a queen of the world!”
            “Oh nuh uh. That’s what you would call ‘Mother Rhadessia’. And this woman ain’t no Mother Rhadessia.”
            Lady Pria began to fall into tears. She sniffled, trying to wash away her tears with her soft hands.
            “Is she crying?” Forrest asked innocently.
            Felix panicked. “You angered her!!”
            Lydia was also innocent in this case. She asked Lady Pria, “Why are you crying?”
            “B-Because…” Lady Pria could barely speak because she was so heartbroken. “It’s just… hard to fathom the sight of weak human beings.”
            “Well, that was underwhelming,” Rina answered. “Let’s go. She’s weird.”
            As Rina turned around, a fireball literally five times larger passed above Rina’s head and it dispersed in an instant before it struck the walls. [End music]
            Forrest screeched and Felix bowed up and down several times, “We’re sorry, we’re sorry, we’re sorry!!!”
            Rina slowly turned around. “What… the hell was that?”
            Lydia had her index finger on her mouth. “It looked like very strong magic to me. She was also able to control it to disappear at her will.”
            “Like I said: I am Lady Pria, master of elemental magic.”
            Rina became serious. Her face showed eager and interest in the woman. “Lady Pria, is it?” Lady Pria shook her head as Rina asked, “Where did you learn that magic?”
            “The same way you learned yours,” Pria said kindly.
            “She has a nice ex-ter-ror, but she can pack a powerful magic attack! I say it’s over level 99!” Forrest yelped.
            “Shut up, kid. I think you meant ‘exterior’ by the way.” Rina turned back to Lady Pria, “How did you know I can use magic?”
            Lady Pria giggled. “I can sense it in your spirit, of course. However, you are not strong enough. The next time we meet, I may actually teach you a different elemental magic.”
            Her visible appearance vanished and Rina tried to run after her, only to be stopped by the pond.
            “W-Wait! You’re saying you can teach me more magic?!”
            Pria’s voice was still there, however. “By the way, your aiming sucks.”
            After the silence, Forrest asked her, “What aiming?”
            “I think she meant Rina’s crappy throwing skills with her knives,” Lydia said bluntly.
            “Lydia, be quiet! We don’t talk about that.”
            A green light flashed past everyone, indicating the exit to this pond. With the help of Lady Pria, maybe now they can finally find a way to escape the forest without getting caught. Who was this mythical woman, though?
