Episode 36 - Infiltrator of the Skies

The Obsidian Tale

Episode 36

~ Lament – castle grounds ~

[Music 36.1] “All men, close the gates! Even if the pathway is still open, the gate will be closed so as long as we choose!” The Blood Raven used a telespeeker to announce the entire city about their safety. “Regular humans have run loose and are about to take over!”
Even the group of six who were sent to prison could hear the telecommunications over the speakers above them.
“Wait, what’s happening? Who’s here?” Felix said in front of the whole group.
Mr. Nora continued with his speech, “Send all the armed Avians to the front! Civilians, return to your homes and close your blinds immediately!” From his balcony, he could see everyone rushing all over the place like flying ants.

Meanwhile, Rina was trying to cast a fireball through the door but her powers were sealed within the bedroom. She tried to break through the door manually but her fists and arms were not solid enough. Rina then headed for the window but her body could not even fit through.
“Come on, Faris. Where are you?!” She said impatiently.

Lydia was in her own bedroom and she could see through the window – flying Avians were everywhere like some sort of floating freeway crash. The entire city started to look deserted.
“Please, soldiers, let me out of here! I need to find out what is happening.”
From the other side of the door, one of them spoke, “You must stay put. The King will deal with this.”
His friend scoffed. “Peh! It seems every time humans come, they screw things up!”
The clouded grounds began to shake and one of the hugest explosions appeared beyond the gate. Parts of it was struck down and the entire castle shook. Lydia fell to the ground.
“Eek!” The bed slid towards her and she jumped away. The drawer came afterwards and she barely slid in between the bed and the shelves like a Tetris game. “Eeyaaaah! What is going on?!” She pulled herself out of the limited space that she had and the men were fumbling with each other outside.
They began to cry in pain as the door opened by itself. It flung open from the top and it fell down an entire 45-degree angle. She was unable to see who it was, but she saw a slight shoe pass by the hallway.

The prison room’s windows exploded. The soldiers by the prison laughed.
“Hah! Explosions don’t scare me. It doesn’t matter what happens in here. The bars are perfectly solid and incapable of breaking. That’s why we left your weapons with you. Nothing will work, not even these explosions.”
Hazel took out her bow. “Your mistake. Let us out, now.”
“A long-ranged weapon?! What?! And what if I just leave you here to die from the explosives?”
“Do you want your city to be destroyed? We’ll get to the bottom of this if you set us free. We will stop whatever is happening outside.” [End music]
The man paused for a moment and then he decided to do so. “Fine! Hurry it up!”
Forrest gave a huge stretch. “We’re free!” [Music 26.1]
From the telespeakers, they could all hear the king speak again. “A few humans have been identified! One appears to be a young boy with a buzzcut while the other is another- girl? Boy? I don’t know, but that kid contains several swords!”
Hazel looked out the window. “That could be Argus! I knew he wasn’t to be trusted!”
“And the other must be Bailey. And he’s a boy, darn it!” Forrest argued. “I have to go down there.” He ran downstairs, immediately leaving the group.
“Forrest, wait!” Felix tried to follow him.
Hazel turned around. “We must stop Argus for whatever he is planning to do.”
            Leo nodded. “Right! Let’s go!”
Warren examined the group. “Where is Viola?”
Hazel’s heart skipped a beat from surprise. “Wait a minute… Where is she?”

The Main Character

What Some Soldiers Do

~ Lament – castle summit ~

From the gate, both Argus and Bailey were at the front of the group. Where was everyone else? Why did they leave children to take care of this mission? Behind them were several giant beasts in cages.
Meanwhile, Clyde was at the top of the castle with Lady Pria who was chained by the largest windmill atop the castle. “Ha ha! It seems the mission has continued!”
Lady Pria tried to break through the chains. “These chains contain anti-magic essence!” [End music]
“Seeing you wandering around the Mirror Lands was pure hilarity. What were you even thinking?” [Music 19.2]
Lady Pria gritted her teeth. “I could sense that the only magic user on Rhadessia was heading to Lament. I made my way to the Mirror Lands because I am also an Avian who could open the pathway to Lament. She was to learn lightning magic, the sacred magic besides ice!”
“You mean that damn Rina girl? What do you see in her?”
“She can help protect the world of Rhadessia! I can feel it. Yet, you broke the chain and appeared instead. You followed me into the pathway before I could close it and then you used me as hostage to claim you were my guest for this visit.”
“And so what if that happened? The king believed it! Without magic, you’re nothing. I had no idea you were the spirit woman from the recent legends. It seems I am lucky.” He took out the seventh, red shard out of his pocket. He then grabbed another vial. “This must be it.”
“What in the world do you think you’re doing?”
“I was told by Argus that if I mix these two together and use your lightning magic to trickle down the essence to the entire city and down under the clouds, Rhadessia’s energy will be replenished!” He then mixed a small amount. “I feel bad,” He joked. “Maybe you would like to try some?”
He then put the vial close to her mouth.
“You… mustn’t!” She headbutt the vial out of his hand and he became frustrated with her. He slapped her on the face and then he picked up the vial again to make a large amount this time.
“You will see what this type of energy can do!”
“Have you gone mad?!” She watched him mix parts of the shard and the vial together and it started to emit a maroon-colored smoke.
He then stood in front of Lady Pria with a glare. With a stomp to her foot, she felt pain and a small amount of lightning accidentally struck into the sky from above.
“I see. The more you’re in pain, the stronger the effect of the lightning.”
“You… fiend!” She yelped. [End music]

~ Lament – city walkway ~

“Forrest, wait up!” Felix called out for him. [Music 3.3]
Forrest was only focused on saving Bailey from Argus and the rest of the city who tried to dispose of them. From afar, he could see Bailey slashing through all of the Avian soldiers that were the closest. One after another holographic sword, each Avian fell without even picking up a challenging fight.
            “Bailey!!” Forrest screamed.
Bailey gasped. “What are you doing here?!”
“We came to stop Clyde. How about you?”
“Clyde is only trying to save the world and you come here claiming to stop him?! I told you to leave the army alone!”
“No, you said to leave you alone. Even then, I can’t do that. You’re a close friend that I care about most. You have to come with us or else you will die!”
Bailey threw a sword at him but Felix negated it with his crescent blade.
            “Tch,” Bailey said.
“Bailey, you have to listen to me. You’re being taken ad-van-tage of by the Gammel army. They’re lying to you that Clyde is going to save the world.” Forrest turned to the sky right above the castle. “Does that look like the world is being saved?!”
Bailey stopped, noticing that the sky has darkened.
Argus flew down from a hill right above Felix. “You missed me!” He had a heavy blade strike from above. The clouds became less solid and Felix fell from the rupture.
“Stop right there!” Hazel appeared behind Argus who was ready to strike again.
Argus turned around. “Heh, it’s you again, Hazel Hayashi.”
Hazel gasped. “What? How do you know my full name?”
“You know me. So do you, Leonardo Van Roy. I know you full too well.”
Leo scratched his head. “I have never seen you before, except in Vector. How do you know about me?”
“And of course, ex-lieutenant Warren Oxner. I still remember when you were much younger.”
Felix said to him, “Wait a minute. I thought you were a new member of the Gammel army?”
“Maybe I am,” He said sarcastically. “We’re not here to talk about me, however.”
Hazel aimed her arrow right towards Argus’s heart but Argus easily kicked it away. Warren and Leo ran up to him afterwards.
Argus used his weapon to deflect any of Warren’s attacks while kicking away Leo’s punches. Hazel waited until there was a clear opening for her to shoot Argus again but he jumped behind Bailey’s many number of blades for defense.
            “Leave us alone!” Bailey commanded.
“I’m not giving up yet!” Forrest said as he had his cubed bazooka ready to fire.
“Why? Why do you keep asking me to stop saving the world? I don’t understand what kind of hero you want to be if you’re just going to go against it!” Bailey made about twenty more swords appear which was slightly more than the child could wring out since Vector. “Take these!!!!”

~ Lament – Rina’s guest room ~

Rina was at the opposite side of the door and she looked quite beat up after those hours of trying to escape. Her clothes were slightly pulled and torn after her efforts of crashing into the door with her right arm. She had just enough energy to break the door one more time. After the soldiers were gone, the door was still locked from the outside but she knew that if she was set free, no one would stop her after leaving the bedroom.
“HUAAAAAH!!!!” She ran towards the door with full force but the door sprung open on its own.
“Rina, I have the Stone of Concealment!”
“WAH?!” She accidentally crashed into Faris and they were both smacked against the wall in the hallway.
Faris felt her forehead. “O-Ouch… sister!”
“I’m sorry, Faris! I was just trying to break through the door.” Rina held her hand out for her and Faris stood up with Rina’s help. “You said you have the Stone of Concealment?”
“Yes. But there’s something I have to tell you!” [End music]
Rina grabbed her hand. “First, let’s go find mom and dad. It looks like the Gammel army has taken over after all!”
Faris grinned. “O-Okay!” She was concerned about the Stone of Concealment, but she had no time to explain it yet.

~ Lament – city walkway ~

Bailey was about to strike every member of the main group who were standing before them. Argus commanded Bailey to tone it down now that the beasts were freed from their cages and ready to ravage all over the city. [Music 25.2]
Forrest began to shake. He saw several large, seven-foot beasts that were similar from Sheywood and in Troiya’s laboratory.
“Ignore these runts and head to the castle towards Clyde!” Argus said as he began running away.
Leo smacked his fists together. “It looks like we can take care of these beasts.”
Warren had his large hammer behind his back. “That sounds like a good idea, no? You and me, like true soldiers across the blazing sky!”
Hazel had her bow ready. “I’ll leave those to you. I have to stop Argus and find out who he really is!”
            Forrest followed her. “BAILEY!!!”
Leo said to Felix, “You go on back to the castle. I think Clyde is waiting for you.”
            Felix panicked. “Why me?”
“Deep down under that changed body of his, he wants you to help stop him.”
Felix had a very concerned look on his face. He wanted to believe Leo, but ever since Clyde was kidnapped from the Gammel army, there was no sense in Clyde wanting to revert back to normal. Still, Felix listened to Leo and went onward into the castle.

~ Lament – Castle’s western hallway ~

King Nora was still ordering his soldiers to go left and right. Many of them passed through the hallway. The queen stood by the doorway, watching all of this happen.
Raven made his way to the king and queen’s bedroom. “Loetta, what’s wrong?”
Loetta grabbed onto his hands with fear. “Our city, what is happening?!”
“It is being under attack by the recent army named ‘Gammel’.
Loetta felt her forehead. She had a growing headache after all of this was happening. “Even the prisoners were set free.”
            “They were?!”
“I saw one of them – a tall woman with purple hair, pass through the hallway earlier. I tried to contact you but you went missing for a small while.”
King Nora punched the archway beside the door. “Damn it! They are planning to attack! She must be going after the Obsidian.”
            “Daddy!” Faris called.
            “What is it now?”
Faris had the Stone of Concealment hidden within the grip of her hands behind her back. “We must do something about the beasts at the bottom of the city.”
Rina had her fists ready. “Dad, I learned how to use magic while I was down there. I can use all the elements to help save the city!”
            “How many elements?”
            “Four of them!”
            “There are six!”
Rina took a step back. “Wh-What? But it has always been four, hasn’t it?”
“Over the years, we have learned to combine a few artifacts into lightning and ice.”
Rina gasped. “But I don’t have time to learn these! I need to use what I have now to stop the city from being destroyed.” [End music]
“No. It’s too dangerous out there. You should stay here with your mother-“ [Music 26.2]
“Stop it, father!” Rina stomped her foot. “I’m tired of being patronized as your ‘little girl’. I’m not that little girl you once knew. I’m not a tomboy. I’m a grown woman who can fight her own battles. There is a difference!”
“Why don’t you ever understand that I am doing this to protect you?!”
“I don’t care if you are trying to protect me, dad. I make my own decisions now.”
“And look where it has gotten you! You didn’t learn all the magic in time and it could have been easy if you stayed here. You even failed to protect the Obsidian and made her lose her personality shards!”
“HER NAME IS LYDIA. ‘LYDIA’!!” She repeated. “She’s not just ‘the Obsidian’. She is a human being and she deserves to be called by her name. She didn’t choose to be an Obsidian. She didn’t choose to be the center of attention when it comes to saving the world through Obsidian energy. She didn’t even get to choose her life, yet here we all are, passing the baton to each other thinking that it’s our responsibility whether she is protected or not. She has never felt free in her life, and all I wanted was to bring her out of that danger. The reason why we went in hiding at the Meadow for seven years is because I got to see her smile. I didn’t hide with her just because I was scared of the Gammel army. I hid only because I knew she would be happiest there than anywhere else, especially away from over-controlling parents like you two!”
Mr. Nora closed his eyes. He then pointed behind her. Lydia stood behind Rina with about four feet in between.
Lydia began to cry. “Rina… I didn’t know.” She ran closer to hug her. “I didn’t know you felt that way.”
Rina said nothing. She was too angry at her parents for not seeing the bigger picture, at least from her point of view.
“Rina, you may fight,” Mr. Nora said.
Loetta made a soft gasp. “Raven!”
“If Rina wants to prove that she can screw something up again, then let her be. It’s her choice to be more of a failure than she already is. I have given up on her.”
“Dad…” Rina said slowly. “No. You’re a terrible father. I will show you.”
Faris stood forward. “I will go too.”
“You mustn’t!” Loetta wanted to faint.
“I trust Rina. I believe in her! She came back for a reason and that is to warn us about this terrible omen that came. Now, she wants to fix it and I will be right by her side!”
Rina grabbed onto Faris’s arm. “Hey… you don’t have to. This is my problem.” She thought about it carefully and then she decided to drag Faris several feet away from them. “Faris, you don’t have to do this,” Rina whispered.
“I want to. I love my sister!” [End music]
Lydia watched the two of them. “Love?” [Music 18.1]
Faris began stomping her foot in agony. “I can’t just sit around and hope that my only sister makes it out safely. Our parents aren’t being supportive, and I feel that you need at least one other person in the family to be there by your side.”
“I can do this on my own. I want to prove to my dad that I am independent.”
            Faris sighed. “Rina… I… have a proposal.”
            “What is it?”
“I know full well that you won’t let me go with you. But…” She showed her the stone at an angle where her parents could not see.
Rina gasped. “You still have it, thank goodness! Can I have it?”
            “No.”
            “What?”
Faris made a giggle that made Rina feel slightly better. “I’m going to use it, ‘kay?” Rina had nothing to say. “You should go down there and protect the city. I will use the stone if the worst-case scenario happens.”
Rina clapped her hands. “That’s an easy and safe job for you. All you have to do is raise it to the sky, right?!”
“Exactly! Well, I have to fly closer to the sky if I want to make it have a stronger effect. But still, that’s perfectly easy for me because I have my grown wings!”
Rina chuckled. “Gosh, you’re purposely making me jealous – talking about your wings like that.” She then hugged Faris tightly. “But still, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you SO much!!”
Faris had tears running down her eyes. “This is for the sister I love most! Of course I will do it!”
As the two of them stopped hugging, they looked at each other again.
“Faris, when all of this is over, we’re going to hang out more, I promise!” Faris began to blush as Rina went on, “I’m going to take you out to lots of restaurants, and then we get to go fishing without our parents having to restrict us, and I will teach you all the magic I know! I will be a better sister after this. I promise!!”
Faris bowed to her. “I am looking forward to it! Hehe.”
The two of them began to part ways. Faris lied to her parents about going back to her bedroom until the commotion was over.
“Mother, father, stay safe. I love you both so much,” she said. Rina did not bother to say anything to her parents. She grabbed Lydia’s hand and they ran down the corridor together. [End music]

~ Lament – castle entrance ~

[Music 30.1] Forrest used his BB gun to strike Bailey by the arm. Bailey stopped, grabbing their own arm from the short, stinging pain. Felix had already made it into the castle before Bailey and Argus could stop him.
“You’re not going into that castle, Bailey!! You have to stop doing this,” Forrest pleaded.
Argus dragged his heavy blade behind him. “It is far too late whether you stop us or not. Clyde is at the top of the castle and with Lady Pria’s help, he’s going to rain the entire city with Obsidian energy. When fallen from the highest point in the world, the entire Rhadessian civilization will be disintegrated!” He said with his usual deep voice.
Hazel gasped. “Wait a minute… Large weapon, deep voice… I think I know who you are!”
“Oh? Now this just got interesting.”
Forrest took a step back after seeing how many swords Bailey was able to pull out. He started to notice that Bailey’s eyes were slowly turning red and the child’s hair was changing, adding white lowlights to each strand. Bailey partially looked nothing like their original appearance.

~ Lament – Castle’s eastern hallway ~

On the other end of the hall, Felix made his way up. He looked out the window, noticing that both Hazel and Forrest were by the castle gardens with Bailey and Argus. Felix tried to shake his head away from this feeling.
“This is really bad…” He noticed that some of the remaining beasts were destroying a few buildings. Not all of them were cleared yet as only Leo and Warren were there.
Felix continued to run up ahead. He noticed a few soldiers were on the ground, bleeding. He tried to close his eyes, take a deep breath, and move on. “It doesn’t matter now. People only die because they fight for what is right. I shouldn’t feel disgusted by the amount of blood that they shed… I shouldn’t!”
He was very close to the top floor. “Even if it means having to hurt my best friend in the process, I will do whatever it takes to stop him. I have to do this… for the world! I shouldn’t be selfish!” [End music]
As he opened the door, he saw Clyde standing right in front of the chained Lady Pria.
Clyde slowly turned around with the ultimate grim look on his face. “Welcome, Felix.”

~ Lament – Faris’ bedroom ~

Faris appeared in her bedroom before she was on her way upstairs. She examined her entire room slowly. She could smell the perfume that her mother had given her for the past ten years. She also looked at the family portrait on her wall from over seven years ago. All four of them were smiling.
She then turned to the table. “Rina’s depending on me. I’m doing this for her!”
[Ending 3 music]
