Talbot - Character Page

Professor Talbot
- "The fact that a spec of the human population dislikes progression is the reason why we cannot suffice with educational research, such as Obsidian energy."

Characteristics - Talbot is seen as a creepy character, but is one of the best known scientists in the Gammel army, and possibly the entire world. He is even capable of crystallizing people's minds into an orb. Yes, he's only 19. The interesting thing about him is that he is able to keep his cool, until someone decides to insult him just once. He would get very insulted and it turns into some sort of comic relief in the series. His intentions are a bit unclear until later in the series.

Appearance - The bandanna-aviators says it all: he's a strange freak. His outfit contains a large lab coat in the color of gray and green. His facial hair is not necessarily fully shaved as he is too busy with his own research for that kind of priority. He has a running gag of wearing different aviators each time he appears in the story. Like Rina, he also uses knives engraved with magic but it is not as strong, and that happens for a reason untold until later.

Story plot (contains spoilers) -
Professor Talbot first presents himself in front of Rina and Lydia atop a hill in the Village of Saradeli. He requests to Lydia that she hand over herself and that he's capable of turning her memory into a crystallized orb if she refused. Well, it happened. Thanks to Rina, the orb shattered into seven pieces and it flew all over the world. Because of this, Talbot suddenly panicked and ran off in search of them.

He shows up during the central tree scene with Jess in Kyrie. However, he failed to retrieve the first shard as Rina was the one who grabbed it first.

In the Town of Igor, Felix, Rina, and Lydia infiltrated Talbot's laboratory. In an attempt to be sneaky, Talbot offered a fake shard and stated it was the second shard for Lydia. With Rina knowing it was a lie, she retaliated and made her way to the real shard. After she placed it in her backpack, Talbot claimed he knew who Rina really was.

Talbot returns into the series yet again at the docks of Ouli Brye. As he escapes from the capital docks, he hands the Knowledge shard over to Rina and claims he will not be as generous again.

Professor Talbot finally appears in volume 2 at Troiya. Apparently, the visit to the Troiyan laboratory would be the first time he gets to see chemical Obsidian energy being fused into humans. However, when Rina and the main group infiltrates and accidentally destroys the chemical vials, the essence mutates the closest scientists, creating extra limbs and blood loss - but not even the blood loss made them weak. The chemical energy defied it. As a result, he was forced to escape the laboratory. One questionable act in the end of this scene showed Talbot splashing water all over the main group. It is assumed he had done it to dispel any chemicals on them, causing the group to question if he's a good guy after all.

Talbot appears at Vector but not as an enemy. He becomes depressed by the fact that all his scientific research went towards mutating human beings.

Returning in the Lament arc, Talbot saves Hazel and Forrest from getting killed by Bailey. He then explains his purpose for helping the group. He also knows the side-effects of the Stone of Concealment.

Talbot follows Lionel and Floir to find Magnus.

He also reappears to help Gammel's team at the coliseum tournament, but he, along with his group, end up losing.

The main group decides to look for all of Magnus' towers, but in order to do that, they needed Talbot's intelligent support to locate them faster. He also managed to locate the strongest monsters that Magnus created, with the help of Lament's castletop.

He stays in the Village of Saradeli, mainly to refunction Garnett's brain to be less destructive, thus giving her a heart.

In the end of the series, Talbot continues his research on Garnett in the Village of Saradeli.
